This is a throwback to an old spell that uses a lot of sharp items to create a protection jar. Using sharp objects like thumbtacks, pins or broken pieces of glass is a way to create a ‘psychic fence’ so to speak. That way anything negativity coming towards you will be pushed back or deflected by all the sharp objects surrounding your energy field.
What you’ll need
1 clean and cleansed jar (see note on this post on how to cleanse your jar)
Sharp items (Thumbtacks, pins, opened safety pins, needles. If you’re going to use broke glass PLEASE BE CAREFUL)
Add in any protection herbs or crystals if you choose to but I usually skip this step.
Something that binds you to the jar such as fingernail filings or a lock of hair. The original spell asked for drops of blood but that’s a whole different thing if you want to do that. I recommend just using hair because of the risk of infection by cutting yourself.
Cleansing your jar
It’s important to cleanse your jar first and foremost. You can use any jar (Hello salsa and sauce jars!) Clean them out super well. If you are stuck with a smelly jar that has retained a strong odor even after washing out thoroughly you can rinse the jar with vinegar or let it sit overnight. That will usually get rid of any smell.
Once you have cleaned your jar, I simply cleanse it by using incense. Light your incense and let the smoke thoroughly fill up your jar before releasing it into the air.
What to do
Set up your spell with any provisions you would normally use. Light candles, incense, and have any crystals out that you feel connect you to your magic. Protect your space by imagining a white light in a circle around you encasing the jar and sharp objects inside.
Place each object inside until your jar is at least ¼ to ½ of the way full. Last, add a lock of hair or item that you chose to bind this jar to you.
Once everything is inside, close the jar. If you want to seal the jar with wax you can take a candle and drip wax on top of the jar or on the sides letting the wax drop down into the seal.
Close your spell and release your circle.
Take your jar and hide it in a dark place where no one will find it.

A spell to enchant your voice so that you are heard, loud and clear
What You Need
a bell, flute or other small instrument
a glass of water
a yellow candle (to attract attention to your voice)
What To Do
Prepare yourself as necessary. Meditate, ground, cleanse etc. Whatever you do before you engage in spellwork.
Start by sitting in front of your tools, humming whatever pitch, whatever sound, whatever word. Build the sound with your vocal cords, focus on those vibrations.
Light the candle, continuing to hum. Stare into the flame, feel the heat, the light, and continue to hum, remaining focused on the vibrations within your body.
Stop humming, pick up the instrument, ring the bell, play the flute, or make noise with whatever instrument you chose. Say “Within my throat, within my chest, allow me to be heard. Loud and clear, as I speak or shout, all will hear my words.”
Continue playing the instrument for a few moments, feeling those vibrations the same as you did when you were humming. Dip your fingers in the water, touch your forehead with those fingers, then dip them again and touch your throat. Dip them a third time then touch your chest.
Hum once, a long note, then say “From whisper to shout I will be heard, I will be understood. I send my vibrations into the world, to ripple, to take hold.”
When you speak, visualize that what you say has already come to pass. Manifest that your words have taken root and that they are heard and understood. Speak firmly, clearly, and most importantly think before you speak.

This type of grimoire is essentially a recipe book of spells. The pages are filled with ingredients, instructions, and illustrations for spells, either those you have found and want to keep or those that you have written yourself. Spellbooks often will also contain oil and powder formularies, actual recipes (for the kitchen witch), and space for notes to be made about the spells.
📖 Journal Style
This is one type of grimoire I recommend everyone keep, especially while they’re just beginning. The journal style grimoire is exactly what it sounds like. It’s written chronologically, rather than being split into subject-based sections, and each entry is typically dated. This sort of grimoire serves as a sort of catch-all. You can capture anything from spells to herbal notes to dreams, tarot readings, and your personal thoughts and feelings about magic and your experiences in the craft. This can be an invaluable resource for beginners. Not only does it allow you chronicle your learning journey so that you have a real record of how much you’ve progressed, it allows you to learn and collect information without the startup hurdles. Often new witches will refrain from recording information because they’re not sure of what they’re doing. They don’t know how they should organize a book, whether or not certain information will be pertinent later, etc. A journal grimoire streamlines that process and ensures you’re capturing information regardless. You can always transfer the info to a more structured book later!
📖 Pocket Grimoire.
This is another favorite of mine. Pocket grimoires are exactly what they sound like, they’re small, pocket-sized notebooks that contain just the essentials. What are “the essentials”? That depends on your craft. If might be a collection of emergency spells. It might be a book of basic herbs, crystals, and ingredients along with their correspondences and uses in spells so that you can always work with what you have on hand. It might be just a book of incantations that require no ingredients at all. Whatever you put in a pocket grimoire, the intent is to have it be a handy reference for when you’re out and about. I keep mine in my purse and use it ALL the time.
📖 Book of Dreams
A book of dreams is similar to a journal style grimoire in that it’s written chronologically with dated entries. As you might expect, it’s primarily used to record dreams. A book of dreams can also be used for a few other purposes though, it also makes an excellent place to record your astral travel and meditations as well as your interpretations of your dreams. If you’re particularly interested in dream work you may also use this as a place to study symbolism and the meanings of events in your dreams.
📖 Subject-specific grimoire
This is really a rather broad category of grimoire because you can make grimoires about pretty much ANY witchcraft subject. Herbal magic, kitchen witchcraft, astrology, tarot, sigil craft, ocean magic, urban witchcraft, art magic, techno-magic, pop-culture witchcraft, the list goes on. If it’s a part of your personal craft you can probably make a grimoire dedicated to it. Because these grimoires vary so much in subject they vary a lot in organization, structure, and material as well! They might be small or large, typed, purely visual journals or any number of other variations.
📖 Religious grimoire
A religious grimoire is used to document your personal religion. This is an excellent way to connect more deeply with your gods and really dig into what you truly believe in regard to spirituality and religion. Record all of your religious beliefs, prayers, letters to your gods, devotional acts, holy days, and more in this grimoire. If you choose to use this variety of grimoire, always think of it as a living document. it is never truly finished, your religion will change and morph over time and taking on the mindset that your religious grimoire is finished can stunt your spiritual growth and cause you to resist changing past that point.
📖 The Mashup
The mashup is an amalgamation of any of the above styles. It’s essentially the grimoire of a witch who took a look at this list and wanted all (or some) of these but decided to shove it all into one giant, overstuffed, lovely manuscript. I love mashup grimoires. While grimoires with a set purpose can be beautiful and highly functional I find the mashup grimoire to be so streamlined (even when the book itself is a mess). Anytime you have information to record you only have one book to put it in, there’s no separation and so, your grimoire becomes an extremely accurate representation of your practice as a whole.

Fill the jar with everything listed and seal. On top of the lid draw a pentacle with the red marker and place the black candle on the lid and light it. Chant the following :
Candle of black and hexes of old. Release the powers that you hold. Reverse the flow of spells once cast. Leave pain and sorrow in the past.
Let the candle burn out and bury the jar near your home. It should protect you for about 6 months.
