Crescent Moon Staff by Rubakha Woodcraft

CREATION’S ECHO Wizard stick is done!! A little breakdown on how I made this: The staff head and base cap were modelled and printed by my wonderful friend @elegantfeatherduster, who also figured out the lighting set-up to make the crystals glow (they are removable and each has a tiny light inside with a battery I can flip around to turn on or off). The shaft is PVC, which I dremelled for the detailing (cannot recommend carving PVC, it was very obnoxious to do). It ended up a bit wibbly for something this tall, so I stabilised it by wrapping a wooden dowel in duct tape and shoving it inside (we are high tech around here, clearly. Also adds some nice weight to it). The grip segment of the shaft is wrapped in leather that I tooled and scratched at for detailing. The whole thing comes apart in four sections - head, grip, shaft, base cap - with strategic use of magnets and also the PVC twist and lock connectors from @thedangerousladies I used Golden brand paints following @nerdsgonemildcosplay ‘s tutorial and ngl this might be my favourite gold paint now. I’m so thrilled with how this staff turned out, and I’m excited to bring it along when I’m Gale at PAX East this weekend (Sun only), maybe get the chance to show the Larian folks!

I just found out (via theonering.net's March Madness brackets) that Noble Collection has a full size, light up Gandalf staff, and I kind of want it now. I also kind of want to ask if it's sturdy enough to use as an actual walking stick, because walking sticks really help my Mom at her age (no canes for her, she doesn't want to be bent over like that) and she would legit use it. But I have a feeling that the answer would be no, it's for display purposes only.😅 But also, they should make a functional one because us LOTR geeks would straight up use them in public.

Sadly no before pictures. This thing used to be a lot more raw wood with sharpie marks on it. Turns out it may have been, five years or so since my buddy picked it up. I'm surprised he remembered it was at my old place. Only reason it made it to my current place is, part of my brain said it wasn't mine so I had to keep track of it.

That being said, I figure, if I handed it over, as it hasn't been touched in five years, it wasn't gonna get touched. Since it's supposed to go with a wizard costume, I figure I'd fuck with it. I loved Frieren, and the different magic staves used by those characters.

If I'm out of line, or he doesn't appreciate the effort, it's been sitting at my place for five years, so he can get over it. Since it's been my problem for so long, I'm gonna have a little fun with it.

Some lovely worldcon friends sent me a picture of me, very fortunately since I didn't remember to get any good ones myself! This was the second formal outing of both the hat and the staff, and the first outing of my cloak and hood that I made myself!! Don't remember why my right arm was behind my back like that, was probably in the middle of a sandwich or something. Have I shown off my staff here already yet? It was really fun to make!!

*Big and Blaze are both purple cats so in bound by chaos they are siblings.

*Her girlfriend Amy is her biggest supporter.

*No matter what spells blaze cast she has a 50% chance of it turning into a fireball.

Blaze did go through a lot of concept designs before her debut. All I know was that I wanted her to be a wizard and to be traveling with Amy. Then I was like "I want a wizard with a cape and witch hat. That makes me happy and I'm gonna do it" and there she was.
