For the au ask game

have you ever tough in a au of jim as the son of Arthur and steve as the nephew of Lancelot?

I've seen a fic or two like it but I haven't really put too much consideration for it but I could make for a really fun au

Also technically Morgana still holds the title of Princess and I think we should acknowledge that more

1. Jim is just Arthur and Guinevere's child. This gives us the really interesting plot point of Trolls killed Jims mom, this gives him complicated feelings on them as he grows, he does however adore his aunts magic. He has a calling to the supernatural and the woods just like his mother did. He doesn't like seeing Trolls in the dungeon and when he gets the chance he makes a break for it to sneak them food and whatever he can find that reminds him of outside (Rocks, sticks, leaves, literally whatever he can find)

2. Steve's parents died in one of Gunmars raids when he was young, hes been raised in the castle by Lancelot and the other knights. His first mission is to be the bodyguard to the crown prince which he thinks will be an easy job (Spoilers it isn't)

3. King Arthur and Morgana are both aware of Jim's natral pull to magic. Morgana keeps pushing him to follow it (she hopes her nephew has gifts like she does). Arthur tries to protect Jim from it as much as possible, constantly controlling him, afraid to lose his only son, the only thing he thinks he has left of Guinevere

4. Toby was the son of Nobles when his parents died so he came to live in the castle with his Nana. He and Jim grew up together and used to play together but they have grown apart as Jim has pushed harder and harder against his father and as Toby has been pushed to start courting a girl from another nobel house. He and Jim still sneak hangouts whenever they can

5. Steve is having a really bad and boring time watching over Jim. He feels uncomfortable watching Jim fight, he gets the creeps from Morgana and her magic and he likes when Jim hangs out with his aunt even less. He doesn't really like the way Merlin is always watching them and doesn't really talk to them or will talk bad about the knight-in-training infront of him.

6. Jims pull to the woods gets stronger as he grows and as his father tries to pull him further and further away from the woods. Untill one night he sneaks out to the woods. He watches the trolls move around in their glowing green armor, and hes fascinated. Steve (who followed him in hopes of protecting Jim and slaying a troll to gain knighthood) is very worried about this and keeps trying to pull Jim back to the castle as he finds himself terrified of trolls in their natral environment (The creeping feeling of something like Morgana's magic does nothing to soothe his nerves either)

7. Steve eventually pulls Jim back to the castle, back to safety. The next day a girl from a nobel house is brought to the castle, she has the same gifts as Morgana. Morgana takes the girl under her wing and she is amused by her nephews curiosities on the girl and shadow magic

8. Claire is curious about the Prince, his bodyguard and the Nobel boy right back. Morgana purposely nudges them closer together and to be friends. Claire appreciates this and eventually she and Toby join Steve and Jim on one of their adventures sneaking out at night

Lancelot: Swords clashing, the smell of roasted meats, back to back fighting, beer drinking competetions, constant teasing, weapon testing, training the troops, preparing for war, roses on your pillow, planning battle formations and attacks, marking maps, armor sparking, quick decisions, battle scars and war stories, suicide missions, singing soldier shanties, sweet nicknames, practicing hand to hand combat, late night shifts staring into a burning fire, living in the moment
