When I first read Wings of Fire, I didn't understand why Scarlet had such a big reputation as unbelievably evil, even outside of the fandom. I thought she was pretty standard for a villain.

Somehow, I didn't get it. Only now, in retrospect, do I understand.

Tricked Tsunami into killing her own father with her bare hands.

Enslaved Hailstorm to use him as a bargaining chip.

Regularly tormented both Peril and Icicle in their literal dreams.

Killed every single family member she ever had, save for Tourmaline, whom she kept alive only so she could have an heir.

Held her own grandson hostage.

Probably decades-worth of more horrible shit that we don't even HEAR about.
