I wanted to give glory somewhat muted purple colors because of her time under the mountain, and also because I don't like that she's usually drawn with the same colors as the original cover in most of her depictions.

I hope to go over it in a series of tribe-headcanon posts, but I think that Rainwings would all hatch greenish and have an individual theme to their colors/patterns that develops as they grow and use certain colors/patterns more than others, but that would still be malleable to the Rainwings' mood and surroundings in the moment

I might change this up and add some more green hues because I plan to redraw it with a background and stuff sometime. I thought a flower crown might be nice, something that Tamarin or Kinkajou made for her.

Uhh, canon critical ramble

As a side note, I really don't like that she ended up queen, and I especially didn't like that she ended up being related to royalty. It felt like it cheapened the moral. It's weird that an inexperienced outsider with no understanding of the tribe's culture or the everyday life of most dragons took control of not just one, but two tribes.

Despite the way their culture is weirdly demeaned in the books (as lazy and apathetic) they're kinda the happiest and most functional tribe. Their society obviously works on the basis of community cooperation and it feels cheap that their leadership is depicted as apathetic by the books. It looks like a thrown in plot-convenient reason for glory to take over and replace their unique system with the same monarchy that every other tribe in canon has, when that obviously isn't making the other tribes happier or more functional.

I wouldn't mind if she was like this and did that to showcase a moral, Glory is obviously traumatized and brainwashed by the abuse she got from the guardians, making her project her insecurities onto the Rainwing tribe, and we're seeing things through her lens. But despite all that potential for an introspective moment, it doesn't seem to be written that way so far.

Sandwings, Draco arenicolus

My lovely babies. Mostly the same as my original ones, but a bit more armored like an armadillo. Also new chin spikes and a forward facing nose spike for funsies. They're well built for walking long distances and do so quite regularly, and have good low-light vision, as walking during the night is much less energy-taxing than flying during the day. Their flat feet and blunt claws help with this as well.

This Sandwing is doing a very good example of a defensive posture, as Sandwing bellies are much less armored than their backs, they lower themselves and may even flatten themselves entirely when engaging in a fight.

Also I will be continuing my long-eared Sandwing propaganda and no one can stop me :)

Rainwing Headcannons!!

Hi guys!! I’ve finally started on making tribe hc sheets, starting with like my favorites ever Rainwings obviously.. If you happen to recognize some of these from my subspecies for the discord server, the forest Rainwings are actually based off of my base hcs!! More info below if you want to read up on my Rainwings!

Anyways, about the hcs, I like to imagine Rainwings have brightly colored mouths similar to some baby birds!! They keep these up to adulthood though, so it’s kind of an identification marker/cool little detail. I also like to think that Rainwings are more nocturnal leaning?? Hence the bat noses a such, I also really like the concept of crepuscular Rainwings!! I also think bat Rainwings are like super cool so I’m biased towards them..Snake Rainwings/gecko ones are cool but bats one are my GOATS. Bat noses also allow for more cool/unique customization!

You guys may know about my other hcs, but I gave them an extra thumb for better climbing/grip!! They also have a thicker thumb-like padded tailtip that gives them more strength/hold when climbing. Same with the wings! They have the most flexible wings out of the tribes imo, the extra bone makes the shape almost handlike, allowing them to wrap around trees, also to aid them in climbing. I gave them softer “fake” spikes since they don’t have a lot of reasons to be armored, I also like to think Rainwings are pretty soft overall ( softer scales, talons, etc )

What if skywing were coloured based on the hotness of their fire?

Darker and red skywings are looked down upon and lighter yellow/white sky wings are treated better.

Blue skywings are treated almost like royalty and light blue ones are extremely rare.

Lighter white blue skywings are often mistaken for icewings by other dragons.

There hasn’t been a white blue skywing born in centuries, and they are talked about like angels.
