Look.

This whole Tumblr kerfuffle is why I took the (still ridiculous!!) statement about “affirmative action” and its supposedly detrimental effects on music writing, and not the publication being discussed superficially, to task. I didn’t want the still-important discussion to devolve into defensiveness and “but but but”-ing. But (sorry!) it is a fact that “affirmative action” for white males has been in place for years, and various reactions to recent cultural developments from “take the ball and leave Facebook because I hate everyone who voted against the GOP” types and men’s rights activists and supposedly “enlightened” people who would make ridiculous statements like the one in response to SUPPORTIVE CRITICISM that I initially quoted are signposts that people who have benefited from privilege all these years (decades! centuries!) are starting, verrrrry slowly and dazedly, to realize that fact. I would apologize for busting that bubble but frankly it’s long overdue.
