This, honestly, has implications far beyond the scope of this blog, but it also applies here:
There is a world of difference between "I wasn't informed" and "I wasn't listening," "the information was made available to me, but I didn't bother to engage with it," or "you told me but I decided to ignore you."
Here, specifically, "I did not check my email," "I didn't read the email," or even "I didn't read the instructions" are not the same as "nobody told me that."
The real problem, of course, is that when I take these calls, I inevitably have juuuuuuust enough sympathy for how much the caller has fucked themselves to not scream at them.
