wrapping presents
warning: fluff, clark being the softest bestest boyfriend ever
note: ugh, just imagine wrapping presents with clark in soft pyjamas while sitting in his lap… *sigh*
the table and floor around you and clark were covered in wrapping paper, wrapped and unwrapped presents, rolls of ribbon, bows and christmas themed bags. you’d been stood for over an hour wrapping presents side by side, choosing the paper and colour scheme to match the bows and ribbons.
clark had put on an old christmas vinyl ma and pa had given him one year, the fire in your living room was lit and you were working side by side. it had been an easy, cosy day, doing very little other than enjoying each other’s company and wrapping presents for your loved ones.
both of you were clad in your matching festive pyjamas that ma and pa had gotten you the other year. matching fluffy socks that lois had gotten you covered your feet to battle the chilly floors. clark had lit the small wood fireplace which added to the coziness, the tree lights brightening the room in a way only they can.
you were in charge of wrapping, clark was in charge of writing the tags. you had limited him to twenty words per tag after throwing away at least five earlier on in the afternoon after he had written too much.
“sweetheart, a simple ‘happy holidays’, ‘lots of love’ will be more than enough,” you had said, taking another tag away from him that was filled with words, none of which saying your names at the bottom. “i know you want to tell them how you feel, but that’s what the cards are for. these are just to make sure we don’t mix any up.”
“i’m sorry,” he pouted, looking down at you with the pen in hand, “i just get excited this time of year.”
“i know you do, baby, it’s okay.” you rubbed his back and reached up to kiss away his pout. clark’s lips chased your own as you pulled away, his arms coming around your body to pull you closer to him. the wrapping was abandoned for about five minutes after that.
the pile of wrapped presents gradually became bigger all the while the ache in your legs grew. subconsciously, you started to sway left and right, lifting one foot off the ground momentarily to relieve the numbness before doing the same with the other.
clark noticed from beside you. you had done well to hide it for about five minutes, but - being superman and all - he noticed every little change in your demeanour. when your heart rate started to increase and he could practically feel the pain radiating from your body, clark grabbed a chair that had been pushed haphazardly out the way and took a seat.
he kept writing the tags for the gifts, making sure to keep the words down and include your names in the sign off. as always, he stayed in tune with your body, and when the stress of your aches got to him, he pulled you by your hips onto his lap.
“clark!” you squealed, letting him drag you a couple feet to your right and land right on top of his thighs. “what are you doing?”
“well, i got a little tired and wanted a seat-”
“you don’t get tired.” you said matter-of-factly, pointing a teasing and accusing finger at him beside you.
“i do too.”
“okay, superman.”
“anyway, i got tired and wanted to sit down, but also didn’t want you any further from me than necessary.” clark’s arms were wrapped around your waist, keeping you pressed against his chest whilst your arms clung to his shoulders.
you let yourself believe him when he said he was the one who got tired, knowing that clark had recognised how you were feeling and did what he did best to help you out. like always, he was kind and considerate, and it was moments like this that reminded you of how lucky you are to have him.
both of you sat in silence for a moment or two, letting the music play softly in the background as you studied the way the warm christmas lights highlighted clark’s beauty. you always reminded him that he was handsome, and you let yourself have moments to just admire him.
but he also admired you. he would always remind you of how beautiful you are, letting himself have a few minutes of staring at you before inevitably getting caught.
after a peaceful few moments, clark lifted his hand to rub up and down your back. your only reaction was to sink further into his warmth and rest your head on his shoulder whilst adjusting your body to sit more comfortably.
“we’ve still got some presents to wrap, honey.” clark whispered to you, keeping one hand on your back and the other patting your thigh in an attempt to get you to sit up straight again. you only grumbled in reply to his words.
“can i stay here?” you replied back in the same soft tone, knowing clark’s superhearing would pick it up instantly.
“here on my lap?” he questioned, getting a nod as a response.
“please?”
“i can’t say no when you ask so nicely, darling.” a kiss was pressed onto your forehead after those words, giving you the motivation to sit up properly and not rely on clark’s strength to keep you up.
after getting sorted, you were back in your rhythm of wrapping and writing, picking tv perfect ribbon and bows to match the wrapping paper to the right people. a few years ago, when you’d started doing joint presents to give together, you decided on colour themes for different people in your lives. you loved it and they loved it, and almost five years later, you were still doing it.
“can we put some under the tree?” you asked after placing the last bow on a gift for ma.
“we can put whatever you want under the tree. maybe lois’ and jimmy’s since they’ll be here when we do presents.” clark replied, putting that gift in the pile of ma and pa’s to his right.
“good idea, they just make it feel more christmassy in here than it already is.” now, it was your arms that were aching, so you fell back dramatically into clark’s chest. he let out a fake huff after you did so.
“just wait until your presents are there.” a kiss was placed on your cheek.
“hmm, and yours too, darling.”
