I’m Sumayyah, I’m an author at kaatiba.com and I’m the co-founder of Sakina Literary Society of the Arts.

I'm [poorly] running the tumblr for MamaBuckle Films, an indie filmmaking company that hosts a FREE writing contest, and the winner gets made into a short film. We need more writers to enter the contest!! We do almost nothing for marketing because the entire budget (and then some) goes to making the films.

We are hoping to grow in the near future enough to be able to provide a cash prize to the winners, but for now, it's still a great opportunity for writers to have a short story made into a real production.

While there isn't a cash prize (YET) the winner retains FULL CREDIT and once it's finished, they are welcome to use the film as a proof of concept or as a proof of talent. It will look good on a writing resume!

The films are full productions with a full crew, filmed in 4K with sound, lighting, production design, music, and real actors. And you don't need to be a screenwriter to enter! The most recent winner won with a short story!

Well, it seems I've reached the end of an era.

I have completed by later 2025-2026 comprehensive edit of all 430-some thousand words I have on AO3, and all rookie mistakes, flow issues, and overwriting issues should be fixed now.

Some things have changed a lot, some very little. Both longfics lost 30-40K words, and some oneshots up to 1/4 of their length simply by virtue of changing how language is used.

In these last couple of years, editing old material has become a way of life, at times a compulsion but also a source of joy. And yet, I am more than burned out on it now.

Are there still places where a sentence can be broken up, or an unnecessary clause or dialogue tag deleted, or something addressed that doesn't quite flow perfectly? Probably. Likely. But for the most part, my voice is where I want it, though Flowers of Mordor still retained its more Edwardian feel, while newer works have remained more concise with splashes of vivid color and clever turns of phrase that readers like.

Admittedly, it will be hard to resist going back to perfect things even more, but I have to do it. And I look forward to what I will be doing with my newfound time. For instance, there's a whole list of things I've wanted to read and watch, and I need to go back to researching my historical novel, which I have been neglecting. (That is, I've been writing the thing, but I've flagged a bit in laying the track before the train, and it is going to catch up with me sooner or later).
