Your face is a masterpiece and your heart is an experience.
retreat weekend! will be finishing the submission for our original fiction anthology, which would have been done last month if a certain character had not hijacked my brain. but I am glad he did because I am having a wonderful time.
⭐1.11.2026 — I think I might be incapable of "adult" decor, but so long as my space is cozy and there are plenty of lamps, I am content. Oh, and my logic for including the piano is that it's in close proximity to my desk and has a pretty lamp, so it is very relevant. PS. I had my ugly white overhead light on for these photos, but any other given day I ignore her existence.⭐
This all began with a few BL keychains and the desire to hang some FK pieces on my wall… somewhere along the way I decided to entirely transform my writing space and create an entire BL wall. And honestly I don’t think I could love it anymore than I do now, it came out so perfect! I thought I was gonna finish it in a weekend, before it got completely out of hand… it ended up taking weeks instead. But now it finally feels like an inspiring space.
I know a lot of people who don’t like a ton of stuff on their walls, but I’m the complete opposite. I want as much as I can fit of the things that I love, completely covering my walls. The less wall I see, the better. When my sister stopped by, she said seeing so much stuff on the wall gave her anxiety. But honestly, I feel like I can breathe again. Didn't realize how much I needed this.
The before vs. the after is kinda insane… but every time I look at it now I smile. I'm already thinking that I want to redo a few more walls in my apartment like this… they look bare in comparison now. Probably doesn’t help that I had to start stealing frames from them, just so I could finish this wall. 😂😭
Or should I say walls… I actually ending up redoing the kitchen wall too. When I realized I had too much stuff to fit on the wall near my desk… I started putting aside certain pieces for that wall. I dubbed this the FK kiss and cry wall.
And I didn't just simply put things in frames, I dug into my stash of craft supplies and made backgrounds for tons of pieces. It became a real passion project. They started out quite simple, just some photocards with a piece of scrapbook paper...
and got more creative as I went on.
This scene was the moment I knew I was a goner for these two. There was no turning back after this. Think FK actually ended up taking up at least 60% of the wall space. Probably more. Nope definitely more. 😂
I even learned to write their names in Thai for this piece. I honestly love the way it turned out.
I started cutting out little hearts to fill in some empty spaces, where frames couldn't fit. It was supposed to be just a few, but in the end I cut out about 100. It seems I can never do anything halfway. 😂😭
Here's another fun way I found to display some photocards I had. Wasn't missing out on any opportunity to decorate.
Not sure what wall I'll tackle next, but I already know it's gonna happen at some point. Of course there will be more FirstKhaotung. But I also want more JimmySea... this piece just arrived yesterday. Still trying to decide where I want to put it.
Plus I want more EarthMix, those two were like quiet sleeper agents that wormed their way into my heart. Loving them in OFDO and I just finished Cupid’s Last Wish, which was so adorable!
Just so you can truly appreciate how much FK is actually jam packed onto this wall... it starts here and goes all the wall to my desk in the corner. Some of it may have spilled around the corner too. Just a little KarnLongtae for writing inspo for my fic... but it just made good sense because My Magic Prophecy and A Tale of Thousand Stars live on that wall.
One last view, so you can see both walls, side-by-side. It really was such a massive undertaking. Biggest puzzle I've ever done. But I'm so thrilled I did it. 😆
This project brought me soooo much joy during a really rough time, life has been hitting waaaay too hard lately. I was so happy to have a distraction, it gave me many smiles over the past few weeks. And now I get to enjoy the results, every single day. So grateful that the boys of BL came into my life.
I saw that you said you used Scrivener! Would you recommend it? Have you ever used any other writing software?
While I'm working through my rewrite of my fic (my original draft was over 700k words), it can be hard to organize my thoughts with how many documents I have open at once. I work out of Google docs right now, but have been wanting to move my work out of it for a while, and the new intrusive AI integration that I can't figure out how to turn off has been the final nail in the coffin for me finally making the switch to something else.
One thing I'm concerned with about Scrivener, is when I copy my work over, would it keep my formatting, or would I have to reformat everything again, including italics, bold text, etc.? With how much work I have, it would be a huge pain if I could only paste plain text 🙃
Good morning or day wherever you are.
I am so incredibly sorry for the late reply! I tend to turn in and go to sleep pretty early, so I'm just now seeing this.
But to answer your question: yes, I would absolutely, 100% recommend Scrivener.
I’ve been using it since 2017 (back with the older version) back when I was self-publishing, and honestly, it completely changed how I write. Before making the switch, I mostly used Microsoft Word, but once your projects hit a certain size, traditional word processors just start to buckle under the weight.
And wow. 700k words for your original draft is an incredible achievement. But I completely understand why Google Docs is driving you crazy right now. Trying to organize a massive project like that with dozens of open tabs is an absolute nightmare. Plus, I totally get the frustration with Google's intrusive AI updates lately. A lot of writers are looking for the exit door for that exact reason.
To answer your biggest concern right off the bat: No, you will not lose your formatting.
You absolutely do not have to paste as plain text. When you copy and paste from Google Docs into Scrivener, it can retain your italics, bold text, underlines, and basic spacing perfectly.
Even better, instead of just copying and pasting a massive wall of text, Scrivener has an Import feature. You can download your Google Doc as a Word file (.docx), import it directly into Scrivener, and it should keep everything intact.
You have a sidebar called the Binder. Instead of one massive 700k-word scroll, you can break your fic down into Folders (for Acts or Chapters) and Texts (for individual scenes). I keep all of the articles I share here in my Storybible there, as well as all of the one-shots and my long fanfic I've been working on. You can drag and drop them to rearrange the plot instantly.
Every scene you create can have a little index card attached to it where you can write a brief summary. You can view these on a virtual corkboard to see your pacing at a glance.
Scrivener is a one-time purchase software that lives locally on your computer. Your files are yours, kept offline unless you choose to sync them to an external folder, with absolutely zero forced AI scraping or intrusive integrations to worry about. I backup FWC to a thumb drive, as well as keep it on my harddrive to get away from AI.
It does have a bit of a learning curve because it’s so powerful, but you don't need to learn every bell and whistle to get started. Just treating it like a digital filing cabinet for your scenes will immediately relieve that organizational headache. I am a huge on organization.
Happy rewriting, and I hope this was helpful. 😊
Also, I'm going to attach some screenshots of my Scrivener for FWC so you can see what I mean. I couldn't work on a project as big as FWC without something like Scrivener.
I would really love to make a discord solely based around writing/fanfiction.
I want to create a safe space for writers to share their links to their fan fictions, find beta readers and talk about anything and everything while he encourage one another to write!
Maybe we can have monthly challenges where the community can vote on winners?
Would people be interest in this?
