So I somehow survived the year of hell (junior year of college) I really wanna get some writing done this summer but I don’t know what to finish cause I keep coming up with ideas, any suggestions? 😭

Also I’ve had burn out since last year with not only reading books but also writing, so if I don’t post anything new that’s why. I don’t like to constantly tell people that follow me because of my writing that I’m gonna update not knowing if I am or not.🤷🏽‍♀️

HANAHAKI

has anyone written hanahaki disease but instead of it being a disease, it's actually a living parasite/yokai?

Like-- the parasite/yokai feeds off those longing feelings and doesn't like it when the love i requited. It's the reason why so many decide not to confess, they think it's their conscience leading them astray but really, the hanahaki doesn't want them to confess because it wants to feed off those feelings.

The flowers act as a way to harness that energy, as well as generate more.

The hanahaki can sense the feelings and twists them, planting the seeds in their lungs and heart to siphon the energy.

The surgery that is used as a cure for hanahaki only work because they have no feelings to siphon, not because the seeds were removed.

Why kill the host you ask? Easy, that's not the only way it can consume energy. Funerals are filled with flowers, and guess who loves their flora. The flowers they implant just tend to be the quickest way, especially if they're low on energy.

This may be a very dumb and rhetorical question, so bear with me.

Lately I’ve been developing my original story about a dark witch who was made into what she is shaped by her master’s cruelty from early childhood, and now she desperately wants to break that cycle after her master abandons her for failing in a major magical dual.

But despite her intentions, she ultimately ends up repeating the same pattern with her own student.

I’m torn.

Is it more compelling to show a character who simply continues the cycle without ever trying to change, or a character who genuinely tries to break it but fails and ends up restarting the cycle anyway?

Personally, I’m leaning to the second option: she tries to break free but can’t.

It feels richer for character development and more emotionally compelling. At the same time, her failure to break the cycle feels more realistic which is also compelling.

So which should I choose, the bold, narratively compelling path, or the more realistic one?
