“I went to college and law school just like everyone else, so don't be an ass,” Clarke hands him the keys, “and I’m about to pay you a small fortune to repair my car. The least you can do is be nice to me.”

He snatches the keys from her extended hand: “Money doesn't buy kindness.”

She’s got her neck bent, pulling a briefcase from the passenger seat, but she looks up at him with a smile that barely twists the corners of her mouth, slightly bitter, jaded: “interesting viewpoint. I generally find that it does.”

Blindness

On my first few days in Cologne, I found myself helping a blind man. He was a bit lost, trying to find a gym in the old town. 

I spoke to him in my very broken German. I knew where he wanted to go to, but I just wasn’t exactly sure how to get there. He held me by the arm and we walked around the streets together for perhaps no more than five minutes. 

At some point, my knowledge of German was just not enough anymore. When he realized that struggle, he easily switched to speaking with me in English. 

And why was I so surprised by that? I guess I was the blind one in this situation.
