Most Unnecessarily Crapped on Miraculous Character

A heartfelt discussion of Mr. Pidgeon

(TLDR: I go on a really silly rant about why I love Mr. Pidgeon, and my confusion as to why he seems underused and under appreciated by the fandom. Yes, it is very goofy.)

Xavier Ramier is the butt of the joke in literally every Miraculous episode he's in. And you know what? That's fine. That he is mocked in the narrative of the show where he was designed to be a weird and silly character, where the whole joke is that he is not very dangerous but keeps getting akumatized, makes sense to me.

You know what doesn't make sense, though? That the entire fandom only ever writes Ramier as the butt of jokes. Every fic that even includes Xavier generally only includes him to clown on hawkmoth for constantly akumatizing a borderline useless villain, or to make some comment about how everyone thinks hawkmoth is gay for Ramier, or to even use his constant akumatization to explain that the butterflies can't see and can only sense emotions or something.

Ramier is a joke. He is used by the entire fandom as a joke or as a tool to try and explain things that the fandom either considers plot holes, or so goofy that they need a more serious reason for them to have happened in their fics.

Why does this bother me?

Because fundamentally, Monsieur Ramier is the kind of character that Tumblr, and the nerdy kinds of people who normally enjoy miraculous enough to write fanfiction, should sympathize with and appreciate. Like, he has all the traits of a side character that a fandom would normally be very appreciative of!

He has a weird and quirky hobby that is not appreciated by anyone else, but that comes from a place of genuine love and innocnce. His enjoyment of this thing is constantly stomped on and insulted by basically everyone around him, and even just flat up gets treated as a problem. The man loves pigeons. He loves these little birds so much that he gets angry if they are mistreated. He is getting turned into a supervillain to protect wildlife that is having it's natural havbitat encroached on and that has adapted to city life as a necessity, and yet ladybug literally just tells him he needs to find a different animal to care about, because his legitimate concern for these creatures has become problematic for the city.

And then what does he do? He immediatly looks at rats, another animal that has adapted to living in human settlements and is often treated badly by us for just trying to survive, despite being very itnelligent and caring and social when healthy.

I feel like Ramier, who is shown to be so naturally friendly that he befriends and commiserates with an old woman he only knows from the park(master fu's wife), is exactly the kind of character that would normally be kind of break away popular on tumblr and with the kind of niche community that often springs up around shows like this.

He's outspoken about the mistreatment of an overlooked and underappreciated animal that is in fact quite cute, he's essentially bullied and belittled for it, and his ownly real crime is getting so passionately upset about this that he gets akumatized. And he keeps getting akumatized because he cannot stop caring about the pidgeons so much. Thats the problem. He loves these silly birds so much that he cannot stop his outrage at their mistreatment.

Does he overeact? Absolutely. But you know who overeacts way more? Poison Ivy, and she is beloved. So where is the love for my man Ramier?

Is there a ton of love in the community for him and I've just missed it?

Where are the Mr. Pidgeon redeseigns that actually make him look cool? Where are the fics where he justly recieves a Pidgeon Miraculous? The stories where we see our heroes who are normally kind and compassionate actually try to build a closer relationship with their seemingly near constant foe/akuma victim?

Am I just blind?

Did I just put WAY to much effort into what is essentially a only somewhat used blorbo? Yes. Yes I did. And I will not apologise for it.

Now excuse me while I write Xavier Ramier into my Metamorphosis AU as an important character and Father Figure.

Akumatized villains... but they're heroes? Used this last week to flesh out a few character concepts I've had for a bit. Maybe they have a club like Charlie's angels where they know about each other but are supported by a mysterious benefactor? 🤔

I want to add more club members later on but for now these guys are Paris's only hope. 🦋

My What-If Akuma Fighting Game Character Intro Interactions

Ok. Here I’ll be going over my what-if intro interactions that akumatized villains might have with each other. This is based on the episode ‘Gamer 2.0’ where Gabriel Agreste AKA Hawk Moth akumatized Max Kante into Gamer 2.0 who trapped people in their akumatized villain forms and had them fight each other in a similar manner to a fighting video game. That inspired me to come up with what-if interactions for them the same way that the Injustice 2 video game did it. And most of them will be based off of pairings of Akuma villains from the episode ‘Gamer 2.0’ but the last one will be a pairing I came up with. Also, some these what-if characters interactions will be based off of their motives in their respective episodes. With that out of the way, let’s dive right in.

Riposte: “I wanted to restore my honor as a fencer and you wanted to restore your honor as an actor and mime to make your daughter proud.”

The Mime: (Nods in agreement)

Riposte: “But we must see whose quest for honor is more worthy.”

Dark Cupid: “I will use my arrows to make you hate your precious pigeons.”

Mr Pigeon: “You will never extinguish my love for pigeons.”

Dark Cupid: “We’ll see about that.”

The Dark Owl: “It’s my dream to be a superhero who enforces justice.”

Befana: “And I want to enforce justice by turning people into fairies who better serve it and by turning naughty people into coal.”

The Dark Owl: “Let’s see who’s better at it.”

The Evillustrator: “So, you can make any type of illusion. Please. I can make any type of thing that is actually real.”

Volpina: “Don’t underestimate me.”

The Evillustrator: “Oh, I won’t.”

Stormy Weather: “I was underappreciated as a weather girl.”

Anansi: “Big whoop. I was underappreciated as someone who protects my sister.”

Stormy Weather: “You’ll pay for that.”

Timebreaker: “Still chasing myths, big bro?”

The Pharaoh: “Are you not also after something of more than just material importance?”

Timebreaker: “Well, our family’s heirloom I’m after is something that actually matters to our family. You, on the other hand, just got your head too deep in your fantasies, dude.”
