They’d had lunch riverside. Fresh fish and the berries she’d been gathering along the way as she’d walked beside Xena and Argo. The water was clear and perfect, they’d left the last town far enough back that there was little sign of anyone having used this spot. She was feeling quite smug that they’d managed to sort out the mess Reghlie without Xena having to resort to all out battle. Once again her friend had managed to outwit Ares and use his own promises against him. Gabrielle wasn’t sure why the God of War didn’t just do as he pleased anyway. It made her uneasy, the designs He seemed to have on her friend, but it gave them an edge. Today, for once, had been fairly peaceful.
Nemesis watched them. The Warrior who had her brother by the balls, and the little nit that traveled with her.
She was uncertain which of them irritated her more. Xena had been so much more fun before she met the brat. Nemesis had had a good shouting match with Ares for interfering with her plans for Reghile and bungling the whole thing. Ares had not listened to her complaint, but Hades had. Hades had given her what she needed. She knew she should probably just set her plan into motion without warning, but . .she just wanted to watch the look on the “Princess’“ face when it started. Xena was mighty uppity for a human. Nemesis came close actually joining them on their lowly plain, though not letting them see her yet. Ares had told her that Xena could somehow sense is presence, and that is how she’d foiled him, but Nemesis thought he was lying to cover his ass.
Xena was taller than she had thought. And looked annoyingly formidable. The blonde, however . . . .
Still invisible, she went near her. Nemesis knew she could just put a hand on her and the trouble would be over, but she’d promised Hades not to rock the boat with their siblings by being so straightforward. Still . . .it would be so easy . . .
