Okay, the more I think about it, I think the main reason why I wasn’t that impressed with “Alien Romulus” was how safe it felt. It didn’t hurt the franchise, but I felt like I could live without it. It doesn’t really add anything to the Alien series, apart from Xeno-Baby. Also, it felt like Fede Alvarez just redid the first movie but with better special effects. That’s technically not a bad thing, but I was definitely thinking to myself in the theater that the movie felt lacking in substance.

And sure, the scares may be well done, but it’s also nothing new. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen the, “We have to stay quiet or else the monsters will hear us” shtick in like 10 other horror movies. Also, lowering the temperature so that the monsters can’t see you is straight up Tremors 2. Once again, just because it’s cliched doesn’t mean it’s bad. But it does make you feel like you’ve seen this shit already.

If I had to make a comparison to a similar series, it’s the “Predators” (2010) of the Alien franchise. Not bad, not great, doesn’t really add much to the series…it’s just very safe and passable.

(EDIT: I take back what I said about Xeno-Baby. Even that’s not new since that’s just the Newborn from Alien Resurrection)

Raising the Neobaby and Xenobaby with David 8 :

The babies were both born via surrogate humans, obviously

It took a lot to convince David that you should really only have the two for now, and wait until you reach Origae-6 to have any more. You had to persuade him that there really wasn’t enough room on the ship for more than the two

And there will definitely be more babies when you do reach Origae-6, like more than you even know what to do with...but they’re all so precious and there is so much land for then to run around on that you’ll convince yourself that it’s okay

Any surface on the ship that the babies run over is left a scratched up mess, and they always run, it’s just not in their nature to walk anywhere...unless they are trying to be sneaky

You’ve done your fair share of cleaning up scrapes and kissing fresh bruises because, as expected, there have been more than a few instances of the two of them losing their balance while chasing each other and sliding a little too hard into the walls

It’s a special treat when David and yourself take detours to life-supporting planets because the babies have a chance to hunt and have access to fresh meat...they always show back up looking like they do in the above home movies (gifs) :3

Bath time is always a bit crazy, because much like human children, they absolutely do not believe they want to take a bath until they are actually in the bath (and David has managed to create some bath toys that they like to stalk in the bathwater)

It can be difficult to have “alone time” with David because the babies often seem to be either too rambunctious and in need of supervision...or too quiet, and REALLY in need of supervision

When they do finally tire themselves out, they become extra clingy, especially toward you, and if you happen to be sitting or laying down, they’ll do their best to crawl up into your lap or lie across your stomach

They do technically have a room of their own, filled with fluffy pillows for beds, and toys that David has created, and perhaps a teddy bear or two created by yourself, but it’s not unusual to find them cuddled up in a pile of your clothing (they seem to find your natural scent comforting) or simply snoozing in the bed you share with David

David has walked in on you more than a few times while you read the babies stories from children’s books you have managed to find throughout the sleeping colonists’ belongings, and you still aren’t sure if they can actually understand you, but with them nestled up against you, it doesn’t seem to matter either way

David was initially anxious about how you would feel about the babies, concerned that you might be afraid of them, but as he has witnessed over and over the affection you feel for the alien children, his affection for you has grown even stronger

You’re a happy little family, and I won’t be convinced otherwise!!

I know this wasn’t super long, but I might do a second list in the future if more ideas come to me. I might even write little drabbles based on some of these if I feel so inclined.
