The Unit MBTI - UKISS Jun MBTI
Jun (UKISS) – ESFJ
Cognitive Functional Stack – Fe Si Ne Ti
ESFJs can be some of the most popular and well-liked people you’ll ever meet, the type of person that isn’t just popular because they’re “cool”, but popular because everyone thinks they’re a great person. This is the type of ESFJ that Jun of UKISS is. He easily charms everyone around him, both off-screen and on-screen, so that he is a favourite of the viewers as well as a man of many friendships with his fellow contestants.
ESFJs are acutely aware of the emotions of other people, but also feed off that spirit for their own emotions due to their Dominant Fe. This is why, when Jun is placed in his team for final mission, he finds the quiet, introspective, and almost gloomy atmosphere very difficult to deal with. He wishes he were beagling away with the other team next door, and yet, in spite of Jun being such a beagle himself, he feels unable to infect the team with the same feeling, even when he showers them in skinship. His Fe is being drained and it would probably tire him out significantly. He needs people that he can be open with, sharing his feelings and doing fun things with, or else he will burn out.
His Fe leading him to be influenced by the feel of others was also clear right from the start – during the interim evaluation for the first mission, when Red Team entered the room, Jun saw Feeldog and said, “Feeldog looks like a dancer – I’ll dress like him” (Fe-Si). A bit of cheeky Fe can also be used when the owner wishes to do something that provokes an emotive reaction in others – such as when Jun re-lifted Hangyul’s top after All Day stage, to show his abs to the fans again. He was trying to provoke a reaction not only from the fans, but from Hangyul as well. He succeeded. (This is also why he likes doing sexy moves etc. - he knows fans will like it, he knows how to provoke a reaction.)
However, Fe-Doms are usually very careful to act in a way that doesn’t hurt anyone else around him. Jun is always careful to thank people and never gets into any serious disagreements with others around him. ESFJs’ main goal is to make their loved ones as happy as possible – and Jun’s moment of triumph was when the team which he’d lovingly handcrafted won, and subsequently all got into the final. He’d cared for them well by selecting people who he knew could be trusted to bring different positive qualities to the team. He’d used the ESFJ inferior Ti to filter through logically to build a team he loved. He’s a sensible, quietly undercover delegator!
“The ESFJ does not become uncomfortable when people are discussing their problems and can handle intense emotional reactions from people very well. They are capable of being patient, never turning people away who need their help or support.” (x) Jun has deep chats with people all the time, listening to their ideas and problems, and responding with real sense and feeling.
Dongmyeong indicates that he thought Jun at first was a bit of a dumb simpleton, a big baby, or something like that. This can sometimes happen with Sensors, that they appear simple. However, in reality, underneath their down-to-earth exterior, they have very deep thoughts.
Jun is friends with everyone because ESFJs make themselves very open for other people to get to know well. You might sit down with an ESFJ and either end up hearing their entire life story or else spilling your own! Jun has that kind of vibe of sharing and caring, and will eat your food as soon as look at it (Donghyun knows)! He’s helpful and kind (Fe), helping Hangyul to walk after his injury, and thanking his second mission team for not abandoning him when he had to take time off for external activities.
Jun also has a slightly wacky sense of fun, and has random sudden ideas or gestures which showcase his tertiary Ne. For instance, this could be seen in his ‘makeup dance’, or how he suddenly thought, “I wonder if I could pick Dongmyeong up with him in fetal position…”. This is entertaining and adds to his warm feeling. Added into the mix of ESxx types being some of the loudest people you might ever meet, you can start to understand Jun’s underlying character.
I had some doubts about whether he was an ESFP or an ESFJ for a while, even though their functional stacks are different. Eventually what convinced me was Jun’s motives. When trying to type someone, their motives for what they do, rather than how they do it, are usually the best litmus test for what actually matters to them and how their brains work. Jun’s motive is clear – it’s UKISS. This is interesting and important because Jun’s background story is tied in with this. UKISS is a band in decline; their heyday was nearly ten years ago now with the success of Man Man Hani and subsequent releases circa 2009. But Jun still wanted to join the band, to help them (Fe) and to bring them up again to having that same kind of glory that they once had (Si), or even better (Ne). That saviour idea is very Fe, and choosing an old band to help is very Si. An ESFP would have looked for new, exciting, present-day opportunities to pursue their dreams through, rather than looking to a band from the past. Jun constantly reminds us that he’s doing this to help his UKISS hyungs, rather than saying like others, that it’s a chance for himself. When Jun talks about making this a chance for himself, he’s really referring to how he wants to prove himself as a member of UKISS and therefore validate why he joined that band. His feelings about this pour out in a massive burst of emotion during the Butterfly performance, when he can finally release his feelings.
He’s very sweet, rather altruistic, highly charming, and very ESFJ.
