Roses are red and meadows are green, and unlike the letters of the alphabet, it doesn’t take much to grasp the difference. But once you look at the spaces between the solid primaries, confusion immediately creeps in…

Day 13 of Weretober. I’m in a little bit of a shock. I dreaded the elephant day. I don’t like elephants all that much, so I had to really force myself to draw. I might have said a prayer beforehand because the thought of crosshatching all these wrinkles made me anxious. And then as I drew, it slowly started to dawn on me. I got this. The pen goes where I want it. I can see the light and where it comes from. I used another drawing as a reference. I copied the overall shape but then I thought hey, let’s push things a little bit and make this my own. Which means let’s add a dick somewhere. And, horror of horrors, I love the result.

When life gives you wind, make flags!

The working title of my new project is “Atlas of Stereotypical Historical Narratives.” It sounds too academic, but it will do for now. For the first time in many years, I’m enjoying making maps. I ditched Adobe Illustrator for Affinity Designer by Serif and work mostly on my iPad, especially when I’m not home. I’m also considering ditching InDesign for Publisher to make the print version of the book. I hope to get it all done before the summer. Keep your fingers crossed! (at Biblioteca Pública de Valencia)
