Michael is silent in the wake of Lucifer's words, a soft, irritated sigh escaping them. Not irritated at him, per se, but irritated because he always does this. He always tries to reel them back in, and sometimes it nearly works, but Michael is nothing if not stubborn and nothing if not persistent in their want to be loyal to Heaven, even if Heaven doesn't necessarily give them anything in return.

"There is nothing you can do now, Lucifer. I do not understand why you keep trying," is what they eventually say, anxiously fiddling with the cross around their neck, trying to find comfort in it, but it's hard. It's so fucking hard to pretend like everything is fine when it's not. Loving Lucifer is agony. Every second of it is like hell, and the irony isn't lost on them for that. "We cannot be anything. You understand that, do you not? Whatever you would do for me--don't."

It's a big ask, having him forge something so ancient and delicate in less than a week. Kit's never done forging. They just steal and run. Perhaps that's the beauty of their supposed alliance. They both have strengths and weaknesses that balance each other out. After the initial shock, well, maybe Casper is starting to grow on them.

They squint at the papyrus through a microscope, making sure that every little detail was perfect. And of course it is. Casper went how long duping them? While they were angry at first, now it's something they can look back on and...kind of laugh about. Maybe. Or maybe not (if they think about it too long they just get angry again).

"You are a little genius, aren't you?" they coo as they look up, a playful smirk on their face. They don't trust him, no, but maybe that's the point. "You keep this up, I won't have to kill you after all."

Cloud wishes he could get away from it, from the whisper of Sephiroth's voice in his head, but the more he tries to ignore it, the louder it gets. Part of him thinks that he makes a point. What's the use in trying at all? Even if he saves the world now, doesn't everyone just die eventually? If he just let it happen, then he'd be saving himself the pain of loss later.

"No.." he mutters, placing a hand on his head and gritting his teeth against the pain that shoots through his temples. "It doesn't matter. Just because death happens for everyone doesn't mean that I should just lay down and let it happen now. I know what you're trying to do, I--" Another white hot, blinding pain. Cloud winces and takes a deep breath.

"I won't give up. I won't just submit like you want me to. Got that?" His ears start to ring, sharp and shrill. Cloud tries to make out Sephiroth in front of him, but his vision is far too blurry. "No matter what you try, I won't!"

Alice is furious, her eyes red-rimmed with dark bags underneath. She hasn't been sleeping, has hardly been eating for all that she's been doing to try and figure things out. It always leaves her with more questions than answers, every single thread fizzling out into either a dead person or something she doesn't have access to. It's not until she received an email about former employees of the Institute did she even suspect Casper of anything, but it didn't make much sense.

Still, a lead is a lead.

"Tell me what you know!" As she says this, she grabs Casper's collar and yanks him forward, gritting her teeth. "You've been lying to me this whole time. The least you can do is give me something before I beat your arse."
