The clearest clear-vinyl record I own: the glass-like “They Call It Roc,” recorded by all Yep Roc Records’ acts at the label’s 15th anniversary bash five years ago. Released for Record Store Day in 2014 (limited pressing of 500), it came with a handmade silkscreen print and a DVD of the recording session. Featured on the record are the likes of Sloan, Nick Lowe, Young Fresh Fellows, Fountains of Wayne, Robyn Hitchcock, Liam Finn, John Wesley Harding and plenty of others. It was next to impossible to get, but it’s awesome.

Friday will see Marshall Crenshaw’s debut indie 12” single, “Something’s Gonna Happen,” finally wind up on an album when his self-titled debut LP gets the 40th anniversary deluxe edition treatment, with a second LP of bonus stray tracks that include the single. Such a great, swaggering track.

Sept 29th Playlist

So I was recently listening to a playlist on Spotify related to this tour and someone asked me who I was listening to, and they were unfamiliar with New Order, and of course that put the germ of an idea in my head for tonight’s episode. So we will begin with some New Order, finish up Side A with some new music from our friends at Bedrock Records and then on Side B, something completely different! A couple three bands who will be in our local area in the next couple months and some vintage live sounds from a fave from back in the halcyon days of college radio, Miracle Legion. I joined the Yep Roc+ subscription service this year, and one of the first albums to arrive was the latest from former Crooked Still member Aoife (pronounced “ee fuh”) O’Donovan’s latest Age Of Apathy. Been meaning to play some tracks from this on the program for some time, and it finally happens here. We also have a new track from Superchunk on this episode from their latest “Wild Loneliness” and the usual assortment of odds and ends, including a great cover of the Kinks classic, “Waterloo Sunset”...
