Talking about Yoh's reference to Ping Pong Club got me thinking about another NJPW reference to an older manga / anime series.
Dick Togo's gimmick is a reference to the ultra-famous Duke Togo from the long-running manga Golgo 13 that started back in the late 60s. This series is extremely well-known in Japan but not as widely known elsewhere.
Their names are spelled almost identically (ディック東郷 vs デューク東郷) but Dick Togo used to make visual references to Duke in his merch and entrance gear too. Here are some photos to show what I mean.
we know aure is well versed in astronomy - how do they feel about astroLogy ? i feel like it's obvious they wouldnt be the type to be a wholehearted believer (except maybe playing the part of one for a minute as one of their weird jokes) but is it like, Those people can play toys with the stars and it's nice theyre having fun :) or are they maybe more protective of their craft ??
I feel like in their younger days, they actually really did not like astrology. Gets very tiring when you just want to have an exciting conversation about stars and exoplanets and cool science space stuff and people come in on your passion like "yeah I love astronomy! I'm such a virgo myself :)" Plus the whole pseudoscience and rampant spreading of misinformation is deeply upsetting to them as an academic (don't even get me started on the completely made up goat-fish mythology around Capricorn).
These days they've mellowed out a bit more and accepted that so long as someone isn't taking it too seriously and letting the stars dictate all their life decisions, then it's mostly harmless. And they've found their own way to deal with the more insufferable astrology types:
(Also fun fact my sambo actually does know a fair bit about astrology, and when I sent this to them their initial feedback was "actually water signs like Scorpios are supposed to be great in relationships" so take that as you will)
I should really stay off the willmack tag

So, in search of more creative outlets for my love of Spirk, I've started to write some poetry! You can find them here on AO3 if you're interested, and just to make it a little different, you'll find an audio track embedded with each one of me reading the poem aloud. 🥰 Hope you enjoy!
