it is Time for the trashy Lowerdeckers Spirk AU!! finally it's my posting day for Shipboard Weekend Big Bang organised by @spirkevents and you get both the fic from me and the art from @sourswords ๐๐๐
Amateurs [Latin for 'Lovers']
Youโve heard of Heated Rivalry, now get ready for Pathetic Rivalry! In which Spock and Jim are two horny lowerdeckers who start hating each other because of a misunderstanding (and also probably the lack of things to do caused by Starfleet-mandated humane working conditions). Being in a throuple with Jimโs parents doesnโt save Pike from getting gray hair. Being my favourite character doesnโt save Nyota from getting involved in Sโchn Tโgai family bullshit. Strap in for Jim and Spockโs inability to communicate as grown adults cockblocking them for approximately 30k words.

It's a beautiful leave weekend on the Enterprise, and you, Jim Kirk, are a lower decker in a horrible mood.
My Shipboard Weekends art (@spirkevents) for @lead-acetate's fic, Amateurs [Latin for 'Lovers']! It was a very fun experience.
Happy new year all. Iโm starting 2026 off right, drinking non-alcoholic Buckโs Fizz out my Starfleet champagne flutes and watching Enterprise.
Wishing you all happiness and prosperity in 2026! ๐
Congrats on the Philon Awards nomination!
Thank you so much, itโs lovely to have been nominated! ๐ฅฐ
๐Event Posting Day - New Art! ๐
Thrilled to finally be able to share this piece of art created for the @startrekpotluck event.
The art had to be Trek and Food related and I decided to go with a bit of a mashup between SNW and LWD. When I think food and Trek I think of Christopher Pike in his ludicrously luxurious kitchen and Iโve been wanting to take a break from realism and try my hand at the Lower Decks animation style for ages, and here we are! Hope it makes you smile ๐ฅฐ

I canโt believe I never posted Bones. I thought I had but I guess I imagined it.
Anyway, yes there is symbolism in every picture, to how busy the backgrounds are, to the books they are reading, and to the arrangement of the candles and their sticks. Even the candles lengths themselves have meaning.
@ur-cute-so-i @a-most-beloved-fool @zirconpetals
Thank you for giving me an excuse to geek out about my works.๐
Kirk's portrait:
Candles๐ฏ๏ธ๐ฏ๏ธ๐ฏ๏ธ: I wanted the candles to symbolize either the energy each character burns or their lifespans, as perceived by the subject of the portrait. Kirkโs own candle is the shortest, which could be interpreted as a reflection of his constant energy expenditure as a captain, or his acceptance of an early death in the line of duty.
โ Kirk envisions Spock with a longer lifespan, attributing it to his superior intellect and calculated energy use. As such, Spockโs candle is the longest. It also features two wax drips, symbolizing the only emotional or energetic expenditure Spock makes are from the two men he serves with: Kirk and Dr. McCoy.
โ McCoyโs candle falls in the middle with its height. Kirk sees him as someone who takes care of himself, but also expends considerable energy caring for others. To Kirk, McCoy will likely live an average lifespan.
The Candlesticks๐: In Kirkโs painting, the height of each candlestick represents rank. Each one is adorned with symbols unique to the character it represents: a hospital cross for McCoy, pointed ears for Spock, and a captainโs star for Kirk himself. He believes that each person is unique enough to deserve their own candlestick, an individual tribute to their identity and role.
Books๐: Kirkโs books lie open, suggesting a mind that leaps from subject to subject, eager to absorb as much knowledge as possible. In his hand, he reads Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley. I believe itโs a fitting choice for him, not only because Kirk holds a deep respect for women, but also because Shelley is widely considered the first science fiction writer.
Clothing๐: Symbolically, the cravat can be seen as a nod to naval or aristocratic context, aligning with Kirkโs role as a starship captain. The olive-green and gold clothing nods subtly to Starfleet's uniform color-coding, where green or gold often represents command. The gold Starfleet insignia, a deliberate anachronism, to the Star Trek universe.
The Rose๐น: Held delicately in his right hand, the red rose symbolizes love, passion, and sacrifice. In Romantic art, a rose often represents idealism or a deep emotional truth. For Kirk, this may reflect his empathy, longing, or sense of beauty, often hidden beneath his command persona.
Curtains and the Tableclothโจ: Symbolically, curtains can represent the boundary between public faces and private self. Both the curtains and tablecloth are hung messily. They reflect neglect in his intimate space, as he is choosing to put his attention towards other things and not take care of himself.
Spockโs Portrait:
Candles๐ฏ๏ธ๐ฏ๏ธ๐ฏ๏ธ: Spockโs candles are all equally burned because from Spockโs viewpoint you cannot predict or judge how long a person will live, nor how much energy they burn. They are not important concepts to him, which is why the candles are pushed back.
The Candlesticks๐: Spockโs candlesticks all match and none of them are longer or shorter than the others, however he has placed them in a hierarchical manner on the books, indicating that there is a ranking system.
Books๐: Spockโs books on his table are closed, suggesting he has completed reading them. On top is an ink well for his pen. In his hands he has the book Astronomy by Revelation, and a feathered pen. As he copies new notes into the margins, his hand is raised in a pausing motion as if he is considering what he is to write next. He is not merely annotating in a book, but contributing to a lineage of seekers who look at the stars and ask not only how, but why.
Clothing๐: Spockโs cravat is slightly shorter than Kirkโs but still holds the importance of his position in aristocratic society. His coat is blue, a reflection of his Starfleet uniform, but his inner vest is gold, referencing his link to Kirk and how he keeps the idea of Kirk close to his heart. Both articles of clothing are connected with the Vulcan IDIC medallion which represents the Vulcan belief that beauty, growth, and progress all stem from the joining of different elements.
Curtains and the Tableclothโจ: Spockโs curtains are pushed far to the side of the canvas, they are not open to the viewer. Whatever is hidden will remain that way. His table cloth is completely covering his table, however it is scrunched in a fashion that suggests he gets up multiple times to pace or retrieve another book and then returns to sit.
Doctor McCoyโs portrait:
Candles๐ฏ๏ธ๐ฏ๏ธ๐ฏ๏ธ: McCoys candles are all equally tall and all equally burned because he believes that in his care, Kirkโs and Spockโs lifetimes and their energy usage will be well maintained and long.
The Candlesticks๐: McCoy has a candelabra. While each candle has a prong, they are all ultimately connected by one base representing their unity as a team. Only one central candle is slightly higher than the rest, showing that McCoy understands rank, but doesnโt view anyoneโs health more important than others.
Books๐: McCoy only has one book. This is to show that he is more hands on and practical. Someone who trusts his gut and the wisdom forged through practice over pure theory. It is open to the beginning. The book's title states Anatomy, A Regional Atlas of the Human Body and Muscle Structure and yet there is a skull on the front. The skull underscores the inevitability of death, no matter how much one studies.
Clothing๐: The dark, somber background is lacking of ornamentation and represents the uncertainties of medicine and mortality. In striking contrast, Dr. McCoyโs light, warm-toned clothing casts him as a beacon of life, underscoring his identity as a healer. His attire includes a signet ring and a subtle lapel pin, nodding to the Starfleet insignia. Unlike a seated scholar lost in thought, McCoy stands, leaning against the table with one hip, a pose that reflects his nature as a man who is always ready to step in and do the work rather than sit in observation and passivity.
Curtains and the tableclothโจ: The lack of curtains in the background suggests transparency; there is nothing hidden, no illusion, just honesty and purpose. True to his own words, McCoy is simply and steadfastly โa country doctor,โ illuminated by his compassion and conviction. The tablecloth is clean and ready to be used at any moment.
The skull on the table๐: The skull is facing Doctor McCoy, and as a doctor he is constantly facing the line between life and death. The skull reminds us the viewer (and him) of the ultimate limits of medicine.
Paul Wesley I love you and youโre doing everything correct.
Yup, just stare at Spock adoringly like he hung the stars. Thatโs all we need from you in order to capture the essence of Shatnerโs performance. True, unadulterated Sprik. Love it ๐ฅฐ

I'm looking for a fic I think I found it from one of your fic recs but I'm not sure.
I know it's an aos fic, but It's been a while, so I dont remember most of the plot, things I do remember about it:
Telepathic Kirk. Not a betazoid though, he was fully human just a strong telepath.
If it helps any I'm pretty sure Gary Mitchell is aswell but not as strong
The first handful of chapters were on Tarsus IV, and it was one of if not the major plot point of the fic
Jim was like 14 or 15 when he went through starfleet academy here
Idk what else to add but it's implied at the end of the fic that David (who isn't born in the fic but is Jim and Spock's kid) is named after another David who was a main character in the earlier chapters, but died on Tarsus IV
Idk if this sounds familiar at all but if it is I would really appreciate any help I can get with finding it!!๐ค๐ค
Sorry for the delay, I tried to reply a couple of weeks ago but Tumblr wouldn't let me! I believe you're talking about the wonderful "Know All Your Enemies" by BAMFspock. It's one of my favourites! I hope you enjoy it as much the second time around ๐ฅฐ https://archiveofourown.org/collections/CelestialVoyeur_Spirk_Favourites/works/38007205
Hi, I've been looking for a fix I think you might've recced and just haven't been able to find it so I figured I'd ask!!!
The scene I remember the most is a little weird but like really distinct so if I'm wrong and you didn't rec plz let me know lol
It was a Spirk (I think) fic that had a scene where T'Pau arrived on Earth with some type of Vulcan artifact she'd stolen for actual plot reasons and has to turn herself in to Starfleet, Jim and Spock help her get there and it involves a tandem bike at some point? Like to get from where they are to Starfleet without getting caught they commandeer a bike from a tour guide thing and use it as a group to get to Starfleet headquarters.
Also some Romulans, but mostly they're avoiding a group of Vulcans moving against T'Pau. The scene I remember the best is honestly the bike scene but I can't for the life of me find it using that.
(if you don't recognize it you can always just delete this lol, I'm just a little desperate ๐ญ)
Sorry hun, that isn't ringing any bells with me I'm afraid ๐ฌย
gonna be cringe for a sec, but writing gay star trek fanfiction feels like such a big deal to me. here i am, participating in a tradition dating back to the 60s. a tradition thats shaped millions of real lives and changed the way we engage with media forever.
the invention of fanfiction has resulted in friendships and marriages, people moving across the planet to meet likeminded individuals. the fabric of our world changed because of how hard people loved star trek, a show that very nearly did not happen.
i've never cared for my own family history or tradition very much, but feeling connected to those first fanfic writers through my own fic writing is so bizarrely wonderful.
i hope we keep writing gay star trek fanfiction long after we make our own trek through the stars.
I do not care for AOS but the sheer angst potential with Spock Prime keeps me up at night.
Somehow it turned into a shoujo manga halfway through.

Hey Hive Mind,
Anyone else having trouble with links not previewing properly? Usually when I add an AO3 link to a post it displays a preview of the title etc (as pictured) but it wonโt do it. Anyone else know why or how to fix it?
Thanks ๐

'How We Are (but not how we're going to be)' is an AOS Enemies to Friends to Lovers story with some interesting TOS references. Jim and Spock aren't working well together after the events of 2009, they're butting heads and it's affecting their crew and their ability to command. After an intervention by Bones, they end up in couples counselling to try and address their difficulties in communicating effectively.
