------------------------------------------------------------------------------ She was so small in his hands.
Kanghoon never thought he would be in this position. Being an idol meant that relationships were quite difficult, it wasn’t impossible but there were certain parameters you had to maintain. He was also just so busy with recording albums and touring that the mere idea of settling down and having a family felt like a pipe dream. Especially as he got older.
Yet here he was now, holding this precious little creature in his hands.
He was always fond of babies. He found them fascinating, tiny little humans who were eager to absorb whatever the world was to offer them. He admired at how innocent and carefree they were.
The baby was wrapped in a pink blanket, her mouth slightly opened as she slept. Already one could tell she inherited her father’s lips.
This was a habit he tried to hold back after people telling him it was weird but right now, he couldn’t help it. He pressed his finger over the baby’s philtrum. He couldn’t help but chuckle at how his one finger could cover her whole mouth.
The little baby didn’t mind and blissfully continued her sleep.
He could honestly imagine himself looking at her for hours.
Despite being busy on dance practice and other obligations he always made sure he came home to do one thing: sing his daughter to sleep.
It didn’t matter if he was just there for an hour or two before going back to whatever shooting he had to finish. He was dead set on ensuring that he would be there for her.
This was also because the little baby would not fall asleep until she heard her daddy’s voice.
Ever since the day she was born Kanghoon would often sing to her. When he held her for the first time he didn’t even realize he was singing. It just felt natural to greet his little girl in such away. He didn’t even realize the other nurses and midwifes crying as they watched the scene unfold.
He would sing her anything. May it be one of his songs, a Disney song or just him randomly humming a melody from a commercial he heard. The baby eyes would often light up, and she would start clapping at the first note alone.
“You don’t have to always do this.” you told him one evening when he came home in the middle of a music video shoot. He was clearly sleep deprived, but he still made a beeline for the nursery “She falls asleep eventually.”
“It’s the only thing I could do.” He would mutter back before greeting his daughter with a wide smile, the exhaustion removed from his face as he picked her up and showered the baby with kisses.
You could hear the baby cackling when only a few moments ago she was crying her eyes out looking for her dad. You shook your head; you clearly could not separate a father and daughter.
“You’re too young for coffee.” He would often joke whenever he brought little Yeong-hui to the café. That didn’t stop the child from trying to grab whatever her dad was drinking may it be hot or cold.
His little brother loved to play with his niece, often carrying her around or simply pinching her chubby cheeks.
Sometimes when Yeong-hui would be seated down, the cats out of curiosity would try to sniff her. Initially you were petrified if one of the cats would accidentally scratch her, but you were relieved after seeing how they mostly just ignored her after a while.
Kanghoon no longer had a problem of having someone to go on a café date with as he now had her. Some people would turn to look whenever he would pull up to a new café, he found online with a pink perambulator decorated in ribbons. Due to his youthful appearance, his tattoos and the way he dressed they often assumed the baby was his little sister.
“Oh no she’s my daughter.” He would often correct them.
“Ahh . . . a young father?”
He let out a chuckle “I’m in my forties”
Much like her father Yeong-hui was fascinated by art. Or perhaps she just liked the array of pretty colors paintings had. Kanghoon often found himself trying to pull away his child from touching or out right grabbing the painting. Even more so whenever there was an art installation.
It was like having a new pair of eyes. She still couldn’t talk but he found the baby start babbling whenever she saw a new artwork or something that caught her eye.
As much as you liked their father-daughter museum time, you knew it was hell when they came home. One day he brought her some paint just to see what she would do and often the kitchen, the living room and even the hallway was treated as a canvas.
The time you came home from the grocery to see the entryway covered in red made you faint on the spot. You would have hit your head if you husband didn’t catch you.
Time management was hard. Both of you had demanding careers and often it was the grandparents or your brother-in-law and his wife taking care of the baby.
One day you came back home from a hectic weekend and was about to check on the baby. It was here you found something on the living room.
There were toys scattered everywhere and snoring on the couch was Kanghoon with an empty bottle on his right hand. Right on his lap was Yeong-hui who was sleeping very peacefully.
You shook your head and navigated your way through the mess and took a seat next to them. After placing a kiss on your daughter, you massaged your fingers on Kanghoon’s head. For awhile he just continued to sleep but slowly his eyes opened and turned to you.
He turned to you with a smile, a tired one but a smile none the less “Huh, mom’s home.” His voice sounded hoarse.
“Sorry for waking you up. But I don’t want you to start complaining about your back again.”
“Ah.” He looked at the little girl “What time is it?”
“I think two in the morning.”
“Yeah, let’s get to bed.” He then gently took the baby from his lap and carried her as she stood up “You should shower.” He gave you a kiss on the forehead “We’ll be waiting.” He said yawning going to the bedroom.
You’ve been married for years already yet you still couldn’t help but blush “Damn that man . . .”
All of a sudden you heard crying and Kanghoon panickily trying to soothe her “Shh . . . shhh . . . gosh it took you forever to sleep.” You heard him and you just couldn’t help but laugh.
