Yesterday I came back from NJ, a long travel back home to Costa Rica as I took a flight with a lay over. After giving myself some rest when arriving the first thing I did was practicing... my back was so tight that even Ustrasana felt challenging in my back. Of course, that happens when you have to be sitting for so long. So, instead of struggling to opening space, I focused in flowing with my breath, alternating movement with activation. Both have very different functions in our bodies, specially in the myofascial system and nervous system. I have been very interested in this subject lately as it changes completely the perspective of the body from viewing it as separated parts that work together, to a wholistic unit made up of a net of interconnections with different functions. Yesterday during practice I was able to feel the consequences of lack of sleep, dehydration and a sedentary day of traveling in my body. Movement started to make my soft tissues more elastic, while muscular activation started to create different nervous signals for the muscular fibers to release the contraction in which they landed. Once the body was more opened, my mind moved from the gross to something subtler, my energy that was all focused in Annamaya Kosha started to flow through Pranamaya Kosha, Our bodies are our most important teachers. Don’t minimize your internal voice blinded by someone else’s authority’s. Listen to your teachers, read, gather information. But then analyze and question... Your inner voice is also your Guru.
