please tell me about grocery shopping
ahhh hi ;; grocery shopping is another @sweetheartreggie cowrite, and it’s literally just about how bobby can’t say no to the boys because he Hates their Parents tm so when he’s like oh i’m going grocery shopping and they all want to tag along, he ends up buying them literally whatever they want, e.g.:
He’s supposed to be there for necessities. The scrawly note in his hand literally says: eggs, milk, cornflakes, bread. That’s it.
And somehow Bobby is pushing a cart that’s half full, because of conversations going somewhat like,
“If Reggie’s gonna get snacks, I want--”
“Can I... uh, only if it’s okay, um--”
Bobby’s a disaster, he thinks grimly. He’s gone totally soft. But what is he supposed to do? Reggie is bright-eyed and giggly, racing Luke down the aisles as if they’re little kids, and even though Alex has his hands in his pockets and his shoulders at his ears, he sticks closer to Bobby than he usually would, their elbows brushing whenever Bobby adjusts his grip on the cart.
He knows that Alex never got to do this as a kid, that his mom’s intensity about health food left Alex scared to so much as touch a Goldfish cracker when Bobby first met him. Knows that Reggie barely had enough food at all. Knows that Luke has been looking out for himself since he ran away (even though he also knows that they’re not meant to know about that) and that anything that costs more than a dollar is a luxury.
And they deserve it. To be stupid kids, for a bit, grabbing chips and candy off the shelves and beaming at each other like they can’t believe their luck.
As if Bobby could say no to them.
