Alistair
Alistair and Cora become fast friends. After leaving the Alienage, she is feeling understandably alone and vulnerable. Alistair's easy, joking style instantly endears him to her, though she is reluctant to admit it, as will be discussed tomorrow in the "romance" post. Since he will be covered in depth tomorrow, I'll leave this one here.
Morrigan
She is a necessary bit of trouble. Cora never truly bonds with her, finding her far too abrasive and temperamental to be real friends. But she sees that Morrigan is not as hard as she pretends or, rather, that the hardness is there to protect her. She does not particularly like Morrigan, but she appreciates her.
Lelianna
Were it not for the fact that she is very useful in combat and her intense desire to be there, Cora would just as soon have sent her home. It's not that she doesn't like Lelianna, it's that she fears for her. Her training as a bard is impressive and she is an excellent fighter, but she seems so sweet and soft. The very look of her begs to be protected and, Cora supposes, that is probably part of the point. She reminds her of Shianni, though much better trained, and she would rather have her somewhere safe.
Zevren
Zev is basically my Warden's Bro. She'd like to pretend that she spared him because of her belief in the good in most people, but it's really a lot simpler than that. Up until then, she's been surrounded but hulking male warriors, tall women, and a Quinari. She feels dwarfed by them and the sight of one of her own race, though vastly different in so many ways, is like a fresh breath of air. She lets him live because, despite her friends close at hand, she is lonely and a bit homesick. After that, it is his humor and joy of living, despite his lot in life, that they bond over, as it is really not all that different from her own view of life in the Alienage. She understands his longing for the stench of leather. She knows what it's like to cling to whatever family traditions you can. She is infinitely glad that he tried to kill her.
Sten
She doesn't have much of a relationship with Sten. He is a strong warrior and she is grateful for his presence. She is also grateful that she could help him. No matter what his crimes, the slow death to which he had been sentenced was beastly to her. Though the horror of his crimes leads her to believe death SHOULD have been his punishment, the means repelled her. She takes him on in the hopes that, at the very least, he will fall in battle and redeem himself in some small way.
Wynn
Cora likes Wynn well enough, but she would rather the woman didn't meddle so much. With all the stress she's currently under, Wynn's questioning, particularly about Alistair, tend to leave her feeling frustrated and inexplicably hurt and guilty, as though she weren't doing enough to save her country. She frequently finds herself thinking "I'm giving so much, and yet she wants me to give more" after their conversations. The guilt comes from the part of her that agrees with Wynn, that believes she SHOULD give more. But she doesn't know what else she can offer. Conversations with Wynn tend to sap her hope.
Ogrehn
They do not get along. She finds him to be a fool and a drunk with little in the way of redeeming qualities. It is very difficult for her to talk to him.
Shale
She thinks of Shale in a lot of the same ways she thinks about Kiba (Dog). He is smart, but persnickety, and she shows him affection in the same way, which tends to be accepted.
Kiba (Dog)
Cora would not have survived the Blight if not for Alistair and Kiba. Most nights would find her fast asleep between the two of them. Kiba is who she goes to after talking to Wynn, when the tasks ahead seem too large. He's who she goes to when she's lonely, but doesn't want to really talk. He's who she goes to when she's thinking of her family. He's her strength in a way that her friends, and even Alistair, can't be, because it's like he's a part of her.
