Obviously, I hope that everyone in Ukraine stays safe and Ukrainians deserve all of our support right now but I also wanted to say that my heart goes out to all people in Eastern Europe and Central Asia who have been living with the fear of Russian intervention for years and now see their worst fears come true. I see so many posts about how "we shouldn't worry as Westerners because the war will not affect us directly" and while this is absolutely true, I wanted to take a second to acknowledge those who do have to live with the fear that it might affect them directly. I don't have anything more to offer than words and it's not worth much but if you are from Poland, Estonia, Kazakhstan or any other country close to Russia or Ukraine and you are afraid because you don't know what the current events means for the future of your country, I am with you in thought and sending you a warm hug with this post.
A Growing List of Banned Tags
This is my second go at making this blog. The first time, I got shadowbanned immediately for writing a post with these words on it, so I’m going to have to link to a google doc instead.
You can find my current list HERE
If you’d like to contribute tags you’ve found, please send it via an ask or submission so I can double check and add it to the list.
EDIT: Right now many of these are only banned on IOS, but that really doesn’t make it better
PSA regarding tumblr’s latest Censorship Nightmare
For those of you who haven’t seen this announcement, tumblr recently made some changes to the iOS version of the app, purportedly to comply with Apple’s content guidelines. These changes took effect on Dec 21, starting in version 22.5.1 of the iOS app. As some of you may recall, Apple’s strict guidelines were the driving force for the infamous Great Purge of 2018, which coincidentally also happened around this time of year, but it seems banning all of the female-presenting nipples wasn’t good enough for Apple.
Below is a summary of the important changes. Note that these changes technically ONLY affect those using the iOS app. If you’re accessing tumblr through a different app or operating system (Google Chrome, Android app, etc) it won’t affect you directly but it will affect your followers who use iOS so you should definitely be aware of it.
The list of banned tags has been expanded. As before, there’s no way to know which words or phrases have been banned until you try searching for them, in which case you’ll either get no search results or the following message: “This content has been hidden because of potentially suggestive or explicit content.” You may think this doesn’t concern you if you don’t post explicit material, but do not make the mistake of expecting the banned tags to be logical or reasonable. I’ve already encountered multiple completely innocuous posts (random fandom gifsets) that seem to be hidden on iOS for no discernible reason.
Blogs that have been flagged as explicit can no longer be viewed. Previously, flagged blogs just had their posts hidden from searches, but if you knew the username you could still visit it after clicking through a warning about sensitive content. Now you can’t access it at all.
Likes and reblogs from blogs that have been flagged will no longer show up in your notes. This one won’t affect most people’s user experience as much as the others, but it does mean you may be missing notes. It’s unclear if likes and reblogs from flagged blogs will still count towards the overall note total (and only be missing from the activity feed and note viewer) but I suspect that’s the case.
THE BIG ONE: ANY POST TAGGED WITH A BANNED TAG WILL NO LONGER SHOW UP ON YOUR DASHBOARD. Previously, if you tagged a post with a banned word or phrase (even if the words were used inside another tag), that post would not show up in searches, but your followers would still be able to see it on their dashboard. Now those posts are hidden from your own followers as well. This includes both original posts and reblogs. And if that wasn’t bad enough, here’s the real kicker: even if you don’t tag something with one of the banned words, if the OP used a banned tag, any reblogs of that post will not show up on anyone’s dashboard (on the iOS app). The only saving grace here, and I hate to even call it that, is that the blocked posts are still visible if you visit a blog directly or if you have post notifications turned on.
As usual, tumblr was extremely unclear and evasive about all of this in their official announcement. Not surprising, of course, since if more people were aware of these new draconian tactics I can’t imagine there wouldn’t be more of an uproar about it. Tumblr claims that these changes are somewhat temporary and that they are currently working on something that will allow for a less restricted iOS experience, but they refuse to say what that something is and when it will be implemented. And let’s just say, considering their track record, I’m not hopeful.
All of this is horrible and infuriating for many reasons, but the worst part is how insanely counterproductive it is to creating the “safe” environment tumblr (or more specifically Apple) supposedly wants.
Tags have always been used for both blog organization and filtering purposes. Tagging posts with triggers and content warnings is a common practice that gives users the ability to filter out content they may find upsetting or just don’t don’t want to see for whatever reason. By choosing to ban a bunch of unlisted “sensitive content” tags, all they’re doing is encouraging people who want to share that kind of content to come up with alternative less well-known tags or simply not tag that content at all anymore if they want it to show up on their follower’s dashboards, thereby making it more likely for someone to encounter it when they didn’t want to.
So really, with all of the alleged concern for safety and “protecting the children,” all they’ve done is make tumblr less safe for everyone. Typical.
I low high key hate knowing that an English language Christian hymn made to the tune of Finlandia is a thing that exists. It’s apparently not even the only one…
Finlandia (the full piece is much longer) and Finlandia Hymn is not about religion or your god. Shame on you for trying to claim what is not yours. You do not understand how much Finlandia means to us Finns, what it represents.
This is the Finlandia Hymn:
Translation of the lyrics (literal, rather than something you could sing) for your convenience:
Oi Suomi, katso, sinun päiväs’ koittaa Oh Finland, look, your day is dawning Yön uhka karkoitettu on jo pois The threat of night has already been banished away Ja aamun kiuru kirkkaudessa soittaa And the skylark of morning in brightness sings Kuin itse taivahan kansi sois’ As if the firmament itself rang Yön vallat aamun valkeus jo voittaa The brightness of morning already defeats the dominions of night Sun päiväs’ koittaa, oi synnyinmaa Your day is dawning, oh land of birth
Oi nouse, Suomi, nosta korkealle Oh rise, Finland, lift up high Pääs’ seppelöimä suurten muistojen Your wreathed head of grand memories Oi nouse, Suomi, näytit maailmalle Oh rise, Finland, you showed the world Sa että karkoitit orjuuden That you banished slavery Ja ettet taipunut sa sorron alle And that you did not bend under oppression On aamus’ alkanut, synnyinmaa Your morning has begun, land of birth
If you are not Finnish, you will not truly understand the significance of this song, but I’ll try to explain it anyway. This song…is hugely important to Finland, to us as a nation and people, to our very existence as an independent country.
This song is not our national anthem, but I’m willing to bet that if you ask a random bunch of Finns which of these two, the National Anthem or the Finlandia Hymn, they prefer and which one of them makes them feel more, the majority will say the Finlandia Hymn.
This song makes our chests tight with sorrow and yearning and pride, it makes us shed tears. We feel it in our very souls.
It is a song of bittersweet hope for freedom after centuries of oppression. Of yearning for the bright morning light after a dark and hopeless night. Of pride in what we have achieved and endured as a nation. That we even have a nation. Of hope for a bright and better future.
You cannot listen to it without being moved, without thinking of the hardships of our ancestors, without feeling thankful for those who were lost fighting for our freedom. Without mourning them.
It’s not called Finlandia for nothing. Jean Sibelius composed Finladia in 1899 when Russia ruled over Finland and was trying to extinguish us, replace what was Finnish with Russian. In Finnish, we call this period “the years of oppression”. We were not an independent country until the end of 1917.
Finlandia was written for a six piece nationalist performance in which each music piece represented a historical period. Finlandia was the sixth piece, Finland Awakens. Due to Russian censorship, it was also performed under fake names after.
Sibelius himself did not mean for Finlandia to be sung, but people began writing lyrics for the hymn part very early on, so he made a version for choir. The lyrics of what we today know as the Finlandia Hymn were written by V.A. Koskenniemi some forty years later during time when Soviet Union had just tried to invade our country. The lyrics reflect the mood of early 1900s: the struggle against oppression and the fight for our national identity. Sibelius himself approved these lyrics.
Since then, Finlandia Hymn has become one of the most, if not the most, important national songs of Finland. No other song evokes this much feeling in the Finnish people. The National Anthem pales next to it. If there was only one song to be performed on our Independence Day, it would be Finlandia. It often is Finlandia.
So you see, this song really, really is not about your god. Keep your Christian hands off it.

i think måns should always be in eurovision, but like not as a guest but he is just there. somewhere.
as a cameraman. as a random person in the audience. hanging in the lighting rig. hiding under a table in the green room. standing behind the hosts.
just there, and no one acknowledges this. every year he’s somewhere new and we have to find him. the “where’s waldo” of eurovision, if you will.

COVID is slowly becoming a "third world" disease. While first world countries are hoarding vaccines, having doses for populations many times their size, third world countries can't get any because pharma companies want to sell to the first world countries first. Even then, first world countries will receive them first. While rich countries recover from COVID, they will forget about the pandemic while many other countries live the absolute worst moment of the pandemic without being able to vaccinate their population.
Watch also when some first world countries finish vaccinating their populations, they will turn to third world countries and "donate" or sell surplus vaccines. People in these countries will go "Oh how sweet! The government is donating vaccines to the poorer countries <3" when it was their hoarding that led to many, many third world citizens dying before they could even get vaccinated in the first place.
african and latin american countries are also pushed by pfizer to give up sovereign assets as part of their vaccine agreement
Yo europeans, sign the fucking petition, get the european commission to lift the patents
Everyone deserves protection from COVID-19.
This is not a bullshit useless change dot org petition by the way this is an actual thing with legal consequences. If this petition gets to a million signatures, the european commission HAS to examine it.
Fellow Europeans, I urge us all to sign this!
To be clear this petition is for people in the EU specifically
Fellow people whose countries are in the EU, please sign this!
No but seriously as I’ve gotten older I realize more and more that although white gays do face certain levels of oppression they are still white people.....like does that make sense?
Like yes a white lesbian has some form oppression against her but she’s still a white woman..... and the same thing for white gay men and white trans men and women like they’re still white !!!!!!
Like I don’t mean this in a rude way but like if we’re going to be honest about the lgbtq community we should also talk about how the white people in said community oppress poc and it doesn’t change just because they’re in a minority group they’re still white people
And like personally I’ve seen that white lgbtq ppl hate when you bring up that their still white because they’ve separated themselves in their mind as being better but they’re still white!!!
Hello white people should definitely be looking at this and reblogging it lmaooo
