Reblog In 5 seconds for good luck
if people wanna be excited about Ant-Man, then far be it from me to tell them not to be, I just wish people would stop acting like they donât know why the rest of us are mad about it.
To be honest, a lot of the people I know *donât* actually know, and itâs taken some time to explain it to them. Â Most MCU fans are casual fans and are not that deep in the fandom and know next to nothing about the comics, so they really donât have a good grasp on why people are upsetâ most of them donât even know that anyone is upset. Â Last weekend, I had a very long conversation with a bunch of guys who were self-professed MCU fans and knew everything about the movies and the comic stories of some of the more prominent characters whoâve appeared in the MCU, and they had no idea who Jan even was. Â By the time I finished talking to them, they were mortified and disappointed. The fact that people are troubled by Ant-Man is something thatâs been kept very tightly confined to comics fans and more serious MCU fans who take the time to be more proactive in their fandom. Â Itâs something that still needs a *lot* of promotion and publicityâ and Iâd recommend everyone who IS upset keep talking about it, explicitly and in detail, with clear talking points, because thatâs the best way to get the message out. Â I wouldnât just assume that people who are excited for Ant-Man have heard all the reasonsâ or any reason not to be. Â Iâve been very surprised to discover how many people are genuinely clueless, which is why Iâve been trying to be MUCH more public about it.
#can somebody explain? Â #this post rants a lot about it but i dont see the reason? Â #i mean im dossapointed that its another white man but? Â
Happily Iâll explainâ thatâs exactly what I was talking about, is that I think a lot of people (like you) know people are upset but donât know why. The original Avengers team in the comics had five characters: Ant-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, and Wasp. Â Four men and one woman (Wasp, AKA Janet Van Dyne). Â With Ant-Man, all four original men will have their own solo movies.Â
Ant-Man and Wasp were the ones who had the idea to form the Avengers, and Wasp was the one who named the team, as you can see here in Avengers #1:
Notice who isnât on that list? Captain America: who now has also had his own solo movie.  He joined the team a little later, in issue #4. Â
You know who identified Cap when they found his frozen body? Â Thatâs right, it was the Wasp:
Jan has, over the course of the Avengers title, been one of the most prominent team members and was the longtime leader of the Avengers team, and sheâs a significant character in the Avengers: Earthâs Mightiest Heroes cartoon TV show, which is where a lot of young kids have been introduced to the Avengers. Â
So right now, itâs getting very frustrating and upsetting to a lot of us that the only founding member of the Avengers who isnât getting a solo movie is also the only woman.  Hank and Jan often worked as a team in the early days, so it even would have been okay to do an âAnt-Man and the Waspâ movie, but thereâs a big problem with the fact that all the male characters, and even Cap, who wasnât a founding member, have gotten solo movies, but the one female character is not getting one.
But it gets worseâ because not only is she not getting one, but the plot of the Ant-Man movie is said to use a âtragic accidentâ to write Jan out of the storyâ many people think this isnât a death but a story that gets her trapped in an alternate universe, something that canonically happens to her in the comics.  It doesnât really *matter* which one it is though because this plot point not only means that a film isnât planned for her, but that Marvel has essentially constructed a plot that will prevent Jan from *ever* getting a solo movie of her own. Â
This is after Joss Whedon fought to include Jan in The Avengers and got her into the storyboards before Marvel made him remove her.  A lot of fans thought she was getting removed because she was going to get a major part in Ant-Man, but she isnât getting one.  And itâs worse than that, because she has a very small part that, from what we can tell, precludes her ability to ever get a movie of her own.
So this isnât really about âone more white manâ movie, so much as it is a movie that is essentially preventing one of the most important female Marvel heroes from ever getting a solo movie, which is a very big deal to a lot of female fans and parents with children who are fans of Jan from the cartoon.  Which is much more upsetting than just another movie about a white man.Â

Criticsâ Reactions to the Sansa Rape Scene in Episode 5.6 of Game of Thrones
The show has creators. They make the choices. They chose to use rape as a plot device. Again. - Jill Pantozzi, The Mary SueÂ
It is possible to write fantasy without falling back on the harmful cliché that an old-timey setting offers a free pass to show women getting raped all the time. -Everdeen Mason, Refinery29
The issue with the show returning to rape as a trope is not simply because there have been thinkpieces speaking out against it, and is not solely driven by the rational concerns lying at the heart of those thinkpieces. Itâs also that the show has lost my faith as a viewer that the writers know how to articulate the aftermath of this rape effectivelyâŠÂ -Myles McNutt, AV Club
We already knew that Ramsay Bolton was a sadist and an abuser of women, we already knew that Theon Greyjoy was his tormented puppet. Showing Sansaâs dress ripped, showing her face shoved down into the bed, hearing her screams did nothing to reveal character, or advance the plot, or critique anything about Westerosi society or about our own conceptions of medieval society that hasnât already been critiqued. - Steven Attewell, Salon
In general, Iâm not a big fan of people getting raped in entertainment as a manipulative way of heightening the stakes, but Iâm even less of a fan of people getting raped in entertainment when it accomplishes absolutely nothing. Â - Laura Hudson, Wired
What character development could be wrung from this tragedy that could not have been created without a violent rape? Why does Game of Thrones â and so much popular entertainment â revert to this horrific crime when they want their female characters to âgrowâ? - Michal Schick, Hypable
Was it really important to make that scene about Theonâs pain? If Game of Thrones was going to go there, shouldnât they at least have had the courage to keep the camera on Turnerâs face?âŠBut the last thing we needed was to have a powerful young woman brought low in order for a male character to find redemption. No thank you.  - Joanna Robinson, Vanity Fair
To show Sansa being raped as the kicker to an episode â and then to cut to Theon, as if itâs his view, his reaction, his internalizing of the moment that matters â just felt like more of the same old same old weâve been getting since Ros died, since Tansy was hunted, since Cersei was raped. - Nina Shen Rastogi, Vulture
There are thousands of ways to make a character and a series compelling without having to humiliate and dehumanize her with sexual force. Come on, Game of Thrones, you should know better than that. - Rachel Semigran, Bustle
Now with Sansa and Ramsay, Game of Thrones is seemingly confirming that it has no idea how to use rape as a storytelling device â crass as it may sound, fictional sexual violence can be extremely powerful if managed carefully (see: The Americans) â and rape is just about the worst storytelling device to deploy clumsily. - Jen Trolio, Vox
Welcome to cable drama, where a womanâs rape is an opportunity for a manâs character developmentâŠ.what really makes the wedding night rape of Sansa Stark notable is the fact that as brutal and honestly unnecessary as the moment is, the show doesnât even have the courtesy of letting Sansaâs emotions about the event serve as the center of the momentâŠ. This was a choice and the choice was to marry off a teenage girl, rape her, and not even have the dignity to care primarily about her feelings about her fate. - Libby Hill, Salon
The show pretty much added a new, and in my opinion, entirely unnecessary victimization to her story. More concerningly, after Jaimeâs rape of Cersei last season, itâs yet another rape Benioff and Weiss decided to add to the show that was not in the text and at this point, we donât need anymore. - Lauren Morgan, New York Daily News
There have been numerous plot points and characters from Martinâs novels that have been omitted from the series; Iâd love to hear what the showrunnersâ arguments are for not only keeping the brutal assault of a young woman, but changing the storyline so that it happened to a beloved character. Iâll be waiting for an explanation, but like Jaime Lannisterâs guilt [over raping Cersei], Iâm not expecting it to actually arrive. - Casey Cipriani, Indiewire
There were so many ways around this very horrible and very predictable outcome and D&D decided to use what would shock viewers the most. Â Maybe Iâm naive and hope too much for the good things, but Iâm also a fan of good writing and creative characters who grow. Sansaâs âweddingâ involved neither.- Jen Stayrock, Workprint
Bad enough that the assault upon the Stark princess by ghastly Ramsay Bolton was explicitly presented as an exercise in voyeurism, with Theon Greyjoy forced to watch as Sansa was violently assailed. Â What made the scene worse, and perhaps unforgivable, was that the rape was in the context of Sansa displaying increased maturity and independence. - Ed Powers, Independent.ie
Personally, Iâd really like Game of Thrones to be a good 30-40 per cent less weird about women (and having Warrior Princess fighting girls in Dorne isnât quite what Iâm after, chaps). - Chris Bennion, Independent.co.uk
ââ
âFans have a direct experience with the crime than with murder or other really serious violent acts.  Often you can tell exactly what the story line was because itâs prompting calls about a certain issue or from a certain group of survivors.â  - Scott Berkowitz, president and founder of the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN)  The hotline which receives a noticeable increase in calls every time thereâs a portrayal of rape on a popular show.  Support is available 24/7 through the National Sexual Assault Hotline: 800-656-HOPE
But guys, think how thereâs probably gonna be s3.5 comics

Happy birthday
Summary: It was pretty early somewhere in the sunny California. The oceanâs waves crashed into the rocks and birds were already singing. And life⊠life in Oliverâs books couldnât get any better from this moment. Or more like the next moment, when he would be back inside the beach house they had rented for a week.
(Post-3x23. After 'Porches and Sunsets' but during the road trip. Oliver's birthday.)
AN: So here it is. I didn't know if I would actually write anything to do with the road trip but then I got this idea and just went with it. Tell me what you think about this chapter and thanks for reading! I accept prompts [ao3] [ff.net]
It was pretty early somewhere in the sunny California. The oceanâs waves crashed into the rocks and birds were already singing. Oliver was aware of the fact that he had that silly grin that Felicity had teasingly called him out on on his face while he jogged down the street, already seeing the tiny house they were hiding from the world in.
The past few days had most likely been the best days of his life since The Gambit had sunk and he still found himself wondering if it even was real. Because it felt unreal how he was finally actually living his dream, driving away from Starling City toward the unknown with Felicity. But he was so happy and he was enjoying every second of their time away from âthe real worldâ.
âHoney, Iâm homeâ, he called out jokingly when he stepped inside the house.
âIn the kitchenâ, Felicity called back. âCome here when youâre done showering.â
âYou could always join me there, I wouldnât mindâ, he yelled over his shoulder, walking to the bathroom and stripping his sweaty clothes off before stepping under the pouring water.
(He swore that he heard Felicity say âYeah, I know you wouldnât mind at allâ)
#the moment everyone lost it
Okay fine.
Iâm gonna do it. And by âitâ I mean that Iâm gonna write a post-3x23 Porches and sunsets fic. Like I already didnât have fics that should have been written ages ago but... *sigh* You all happy now?
I...
I really donât know what to think about 3x23.
But I certainly know what I think about that last Nanda Parbat scene and I am so disgusted.
