CONvergence starts tomorrow! I’ve just landed in MN, so it’s one afternoon of rest, and then four days of excitement. I can’t wait to meet all you who’ll be attending!

I started re-reading the Tamora Pierce books the other day. I was surprised at how much I still enjoy them ^-^ she was one of my favorite authors when I was a kid, and the Tortall books were my comfort food. I’m impressed at how well they stand up now that I’m older.

I just saw a beautiful piece of fanart of Beka Cooper from the Terrier books go past on my dash, and it was lovely but it was the tags that the person who’d reblogged it had added that made me really grin:

And I just fucking love how the whole fandom has basically just gone, “NOPE. No spoilers EVER. Everyone has to suffer through The Thing just like we all did. No one gets to be warned ahead of time. NO. Our pain is yours now.”

I’ve never seen any other fandom more determined to keep something from being spoiled for future readers, ever. It’s beautiful.

My interpretation of Alanna of Trebond (from Tamora Pierce’s Song of the Lioness Quartet).

She started out nude, cause I hate drawing clothes, but then I thought, eh, why the heck not.

I imagine this time to be after her reveal as a female, possibly after her time with the Bazir (hence copious amounts of freckles). I didn’t quite get the androgynous look down (she’s not passing for a boy) but hopefully she looks scrappy. Like Roger of Conte had better look out!
