The reason most indie novels are written like the author is terrified of doing something wrong is because the overwhelming majority of indie novelists get their start by networking in the violent panopticon of the social media indie publishing community, which favours the people who are able to win at the social policing game.
Okay so this comment got me googling because I hadn't heard of Isabel Fall
And if you also hadn't heard of her go read this because uhh... Holy Shit
I had heard of the whole messed up situation with this story, but I hadn't ever read the synopsis of the story before, and WOW
This story sounds like it could have been a brilliant exploration of gender and warfare and violence but instead it was attacked by people who didn't know how to confront a story that made them uncomfortable, and the author faced horrible consequences.
It's so important to be able to deal with stories that give you uncomfortable feelings in other ways than just attacking it. Being shown new perspectives sometimes has feelings of discomfort because it's an unfamiliar way of seeing the world.

not aromantic but I believe in their beliefs.
"there's no platonic explanation for this" try harder bucko
love is a beautiful wonderful multifaceted nebulous thing that shouldn't be reduced to the strict bounds of Tier One: Romance and Tier Two: Friends. get weird with it. love your friends deeply, wildly, passionately and platonically. cowards
True character relationship appreciation enlightenment lies in recognizing that sometimes, there is no romantic explanation for this bullshit.
mirror of me (a piece on identity)
goddamn I'm proud of this piece
honestly i think we kind of lost the plot on "therapy speak" as a bit of media criticism
i swear it used to refer to a story using a very formal, almost workplace safety-type tone of dialogue that's unintentionally jarring in context and feels like the writer is trying to make extra sure the characters come off as healthy and nice even though the language doesn't make sense contextually, now it seems to frequently refer to characters having any conversation about their feelings at all or even stories that are about therapy/are deliberately evoking that sort of verbage throughout as a stylistic choice. very odd.

The fastest way to accomplish The Project is to cease being afraid of The Project. The Project cannot maim you. The Project cannot kill you. The Project is more afraid of you than you are of it. It is okay if The Project turns out differently from how it was in your head, and it is okay if it has flaws. You are capable of engaging with The Project.
Redesign of Rarity!
I already had this drawing almost finished, so I decided to add the final touches and post it. I'm not as into MLP as I used to be anymore, so I probably won't be making redesigns for Applejack or Pinkie, but who knows!
Don't worry though, I'll still post MLP drawings from time to time. My account will mainly focus on my OCs from now on, so I really appreciate everyone who decides to stick around and support me anyway! đâšđ«¶đž
Meanwhile this was what various medical professionals in that reddit thread had to say about it.
They do not, in fact, love it.
The proof that chiropractic is an utterly failed medical profession is not that adjustments can cause harm, but that the profession has responded by ignoring and denying the harm, rather than studying it.
All medical treatments (other than complete placebos) have some risk of harm, but for real treatments given by real professionals, the harms are tracked, measured and warned about. If the harms are too severe, the treatment is no longer used.
One of my colleagues was a chiropractor. After a while he began to suspect that a lot of his patients actually just had muscle tears, not spinal issues. He bought an ultrasound machine, learned how to use it and how to read ultrasound, and found that to be the case. Between that and the constant pressure from management to get customers (because lbr, they're not patients, they're customers), he got sick and tired of it and bailed to become a sonographer full time.
And before people pipe up with "but my chiro is good, they have me do exercises and so on!" that's just regular ass physiotherapy. See a physiotherapist. A lot of people who sing the praises of chiros because they saved them from chronic pain would have gotten the same benefits from seeing an actual licensed physio, who can prescribe the same or even better exercises because they have an actual fucking education.
The amount of fucking charts I've seen where a patient went to a chiropractor and now needs a surgery is fucking insane. All I do is medical charts, day in and day out doing medical code. I've gone over hundreds of patients whole year of appointments. Unless the chiropractor is also a physical therapist, that patient is going to get worse and need surgery with very few exceptions. It doesn't matter when they mention seeing a chiropractor, by the end of the year they need surgery for issues that started after *shock and awe* a chiropractor appointment! I've seen patients needing multiple surgeries to be functional after chiropractors. I've seen patients lose their ability to walk because of chiropractors. And all the way up till they need surgery, through the issues piling up and needing more pain meds, the patients insist it's helping because the want so badly for it to be helping. I wish it did
When I found out the creator of chiropractic techniques claimed he learned it all from a ghost, I was shocked that no one has realized it was a malevolent ghost that had thought of it as a way to torment the living.
TADC Persona AU, or The Amazing Cognitive Circus noodling.
âLook. Leeroy. I know we donât get along,â Moses Herman said. âBut we think weâve found a way to get Chloe back.â
Leeroy Mateo bristled, briefly propping himself up to properly point - and stare daggers - at his former friend. âFor the last time, I donât know why she skipped town, but itâs not any of my business or yours.â
âShe didnât skip town and you know it,â I said, stepping forward.
Leeroy turned to me, ready to spit bile, and - stopped, cold, eyes darting to the headset in my hands.
âWhere did you get that?â he says. âWhy do you have that.â
âUniversity psychology study, or so C&A claimed,â I say.
Moses folded his arms and smirked as Leeroyâs breathing quickened.
âWho even are you?â he asked me.
âIâm a friend of Susanâs,â I say, and I see him wince at the mention of her name. âAnd, like you, and Susan, and Chloe, Iâm another casualty of C&Aâs research into cognitive modeling⊠or we would have been, if I hadnât found a means to fight back.â
Aw, is that all I am to you? Pomni muttered in the back of my mind, before cackling. Iâm hurt, Gabby!
Quiet, the adults are talking, I tell her. She blows a raspberry at me, then lets me work.
âNow, do you want to die wondering what happened,â I ask, reaching to him, âOr do you want me to get breakfast and explain how to save her life?â
He looks at me, then at Moses, then at my hand.
Then I hear his stomach gurgle, and he sighs and takes my hand in gloved fingers.
I hoist him up.
âYouâre not buying me for a Spudsmuffin Value Meal,â he says, trying not to make it a snarl. âSpring for at least a diner omelette and maybe Iâll pay attention.â
Aw, the big oeuf thinks she has room to negotiate! Sheâs so pwecious, Pomni jeered.
âDone.â With the money Iâve been getting pawning artifacts from the Circus, this was hardly an imposition, but I wasnât telling him that.
âDidnât catch your name, sweetcheeks,â he said.
âAbigail,â I told him. âAbigail Brooks.â
Drew this, for practice. Likely to redraw it later on better paper.
Moses Hermanâs design is blatantly Arin Hansen with biker gear and Iâm not sorry.
