“Shane, how does it feel to be back on Montreal ice?”
What if everything gets better in 2016
✨️ I married my best friend ✨️
insp.
I think the day after Shane’s hockey obligations are over for the season, he sleeps for an absurdly long time, just totally dead to the world, really deep, nothing short of the apocalypse is gonna wake him up type shit.
The first year Shane and Ilya live together, when the season ends, Shane goes to sleep and then just doesn’t wake up for a full day. Ilya, obviously, freaks the fuck out, tries to wake him and then when that fails, goes to check his pulse.
Unfortunately for Ilya, because Shane is a ridiculously fit athlete, his resting heart rate is shockingly low (hey Sid Crosby and your 36-38 bpm) and in Ilya’s panic he legit thinks Shane’s dead or at the very least experiencing some kind of heart issue and is in a coma.
Cue Ilya calling an ambulance, convinced his husband is a goner, only for Shane to wake up extremely confused with a room full of strangers and a stretcher next to his bed.
Ilya is, understandably, equal parts distraught and relieved, and Shane is horrifically embarrassed and then has to spend the next week making it up to Ilya because he didn’t give him a heads up that that was likely to happen.
— dulce et decorum est pro patria mori
I think that Ilya genuinely thinks Shane is mocking his accent when he copies it. And like. It's fine, its a funny accent, Ilya knows that. He knows it's still pretty thick (nice) for him living in English speaking countries for 10 years. But its whatever, he doesn't really care. If he did, he'd tell Shane to stop and he would stop. No big deal.
Until.
Ilya is watching Shane interact with Luca one day. Luca says something and Shane repeats it in Luca's Swiss accent. Luca doesn't really seem to notice or care. Shane isn't acting like he's making fun of Luca. And when Ilya comes over, he even says 'hey' in Luca's accent.
And Ilya then does some googling. He comes across the phrase 'echolalia' and reads the sentence: "-especially when individuals feel comfortable or have a strong relationship with the person they are imitating."
And Ilya realizes the first time he remembers Shane doing that was during their first time. He had worked so hard to make Shane feel safe and comfortable and he did and he has proof and now he has to go suck Shane's dick about it immediately.
Ilya and Shane, but it’s just them seeing each other as a version of their husband no one else understands them seeing.
To Ilya, Shane is the funniest, sexiest, bitchiest and downright FREAKIEST person he knows. He tells everyone he knows this, yet for some reason no one seems to believe him. His husband is such an asshole, and Ilya loves him for it.
While to Shane, Ilya is his soft and most precious baby. A heart of gold and with feelings so wide and deep he is breathless at just how much he CARES. Sunshine itself. Shane laughs at how people describe his ‘scary, no-smiling Slavic nightmare of a husband.’ See Ilya! He DOES get sarcasm (he does not.)
thinking about Shane's first pride night with the Centaurs ;u;
One thing I've been thinking about recently is that the Metros were holding Shane back. The Admirals holding Hunter back makes sense, in an oh shit he's going to kill this kid way. But the Metros holding Shane back? Shane who never fights? Shane who is a known peacemaker? Maybe the argument can be made they wanted to protect him from getting hurt/getting fined but, Shane is their captain, if he wants to fight, a fight there shall be.
Unless.
You consider that the Metros know that Shane absolutely does know how to fight. They've all done checking clinics with Shane. They've all wrestled and roughhoused with Shane. He's strong and he's fast and he wants to win.
The Metros understand that Shane doesn't fight, not because he can't, but because he's a little too good at it. And Shane generally doesn't even like violence. He likes to win by playing the game, not hurting the other team.
So when they see Shane, after the whistle, drop his gloves to Scott Hunter, there is a collective thought of oh shit he's going to kill Hunter and they have approximately 1.5 seconds to grab their captain and prevent him from getting arrested.
Serpentine Fanart
I am a sucker for gift art (most of my HR art at this point IS gift art for fanfics, oops). Read "Serpentine" by @penandinkprincess and I LOVE Spaghetti and I love baby Shane having an unconventional pet! So I wanted to doodle the two babies together OvO
Put baby Shane in a Centaur's jersey because I DO know some of the lore (I did purchase the Game Changers series but I have yet to read them as I am instead reading fanfic 😅).
Also reminded me of when **I** was 8 and I got to see/pet a little baby snake at the pet store; it was a black ribbon snake and honestly I would've love to have it but no pets for me till I was 10, and by then it was rodents so I guess it was a missed connection YuY Though my mom DID like snakes so like-not a completely similar experience to Shane and Yuna, haha.
Anyways that's that on that. Please read check out the fic!
My Shane is an enabler. He’s gonna roll his eyes and tell ilya to fuck himself, but he loves that shit. He’s icing Ilya injuries after a fight barely hiding the fact that he found it funny. He’s providing information for chirps. He’s joining in on the fun cause he loves his husband. Idk man I just don’t think Shane, who fell in love with the NHLs biggest asshole is gonna be annoyed when he’s being an asshole.

"It's just… Why a snake, of all things?"
Shane shrugs. Carefully, he folds the very tip of the page he's on, creating the tiniest dog ear Yuna has seen, before closing the comic book and setting it aside on the bedside table. He scoots closer to Yuna, slowly, carefully, as if he's worried she's going to get up and leave if he moves too fast, until eventually he's next to her, arm pressed against hers. Yuna lifts the arm and wraps it around Shane, pulling him closer, and just waits him out.
Usually she presses him for information, trying to get an answer as quick as possible, but right now she's content to just sit here. She rests her head against Shane's, hair still damp from his shower earlier, and just holds him.
Eventually, voice thick, Shane says, "People think I'm weird. Everyone in my class likes that I'm good at hockey, and that I'm fast. In gym I'm always picked first for teams, but… I don't think anyone really likes me."
Something in Yuna breaks. There's a sharp pain in her chest that goes just as quickly as it came, and the matter of fact way Shane tells her ‘I don't think anyone likes me’ brings tears to her eyes. "Oh, baby…"
"And…" Shane sniffles and wipes his nose with the back of his hand. "No one really likes snakes, either. They think they're scary and weird and boring, and I think maybe I'm weird and boring, so maybe… Maybe a snake would like me."
HEY SO I'VE BEEN SHOT
i know in my heart that shane is the most obnoxious sick person of all time
not because he's a baby a la classic man cold
but because he will AGGRESSIVELY try to pretend he is not sick
he is trying to gaslight others but ALSO himself
he has a gold medal immune system thank you he did NOT get taken down by ill pikeling spreading Elementary School Plague to him
not happening
as an itty bitty he lied so he wouldn't have to skip hockey, and that has NOT changed as an adult
his true toxic trait is that he WILL be typhoid mary in that locker room if it means he doesn't have to stay home and miss playing
the majority of the struggle when shane is sick is just making him ADMIT he is sick

also CACKLING about the way this looks on the outside.
like. no one else on the team understands Hollander Illness Behavior yet, so they're teasing ilya about being overprotective because shane is SO underplaying it and meanwhile ilya is just, "no, i am so fucking serious. get a medic and then call an ambulance."
and shane who is barely on this realm of existence and about 0.2 seconds from having Involuntary Floor Time is just, "don't worry :) i'll just take an advil or something :)"
WHICH IS NOT HELPING EVERYONE ELSE UNDERSTAND THE MOTHERFUCKING GRAVITY OF THE SITUATION, SHANE, NO MORE CONTRIBUTIONS AT THIS TIME FROM YOU, THANK YOU
@nirby-wirby
the idea that ilya was trying to be loving and let shane come to his own conclusions that he was sick and give in to being cared for because they're still early in their marriage and he thinks that's still possible
only for The Appendixing to happen and shane in the aftermath losing his faking it privileges as a result because APPARENTLY his shifty ass will just "no thank you" his own body THROUGH A FUCKING! MEDICAL EMERGENCY!!
@dragoonthegreat
CACKLING
i also feel like part of the problem is that he IS so good. yeah his fever is 102 and he can't really see straight and gravity is applying to him unevenly, but he is still making goals. would that goal have happened if he was at home?? GUESS WE'LL NEVER HAVE TO KNOW.
the idea of the team thinking they can rat him out to ilya (at home on temporary injury reserve) being SO darkly funny to ilya. he WISHES he had the authority to just make shane admit he's sick and rest. you would think someone obsessed with their health in every other way would take illness seriously enough to rest when he needs to.
AND FUCKING YET.
he makes it into the locker room before his body goes "okay night night time" and he just goes DOWN
but he held it together SO well in the interview that people see the ambulance coming to the arena and start speculating about fucking EVERYONE
EXCEPT THE MOTHERFUCKER WHO ACTUALLY GOT A WEE WOO TAXI RIDE
he's still out for the next one and announcers are like, "wow, bad luck to have a player end up in the hospital last time and hollander out on this one" and ilya is just -_-
because he's not going to tell on him BUT FUCK'S SAKE, SHANE
shane in the fucking stratosphere after surgery: TWO appende-appen-appenbyebyes. one more than ANYONE else on the team. that's called-that's called WINNING, babe.
ilya, exhausted, cannot believe they have ended up here AGAIN: no it is not.
Ilya, waking up from a Shallergies Nightmare: remember what Galina said -- Shane hiding himself away where I cannot see him in order to eat cases and cases of mangoes (which he is allergic to) can't hurt you, it doesn't exist and he has no allergies.
Shane, starting his game day routine across the room, about to play through his appendix bursting for the SECOND TIME: :3
ilya didn't lose enough years off of his life on the first one
time to run it back
Oh baby
Canada’s Power Couple
headcanon that like his son, david hollander too can also stare at his partner with big doe eyes and get what he wants. it’s rare for ilya to see it but the first time he does he points aggressively and goes “YOU!!! is your fault i never win an argument!!!!” david just blinks while yuna nods solemnly and tells ilya that unfortunately shane learned from the best
