i don't like to yuck people's yum but i have to say that my least favorite thing to come from the current state of Artists on the Internet is the idea of a sketchbook as something nice and pretty and shareable. like i love me a notebook full of gorgeous art don't get me wrong but that is NOT what a sketchbook is. a sketchbook is my friend who i carry around everywhere like a purse chihuahua. it is the physical manifestation of my notes app. it is the container into which i wring my brain out. it is my therapist. and most of all it is filled with absolutely terrible sketches that should never see the light of day.

this post is making the rounds again and the amount of people saying that the pretty sketchbooks phenomenon ruined sketchbooks for them is HEARTBREAKING and i stand by my opinion that sketchbooks should be like a jar you put your OCs in. and then you shake them around in there. that's what they're for

Fandom is so obsessed with contrasts in ships that they force them onto hollanov, a couple who are FAMOUSLY supposed to be similar. There is no slutty one and prudish one. They both love sex. There is no smart one and dumb one. They both excel at the same career where traditional metrics of academic intelligence don't apply. There is no jock and nerd. They are both professional athletes. There is no neatfreak and slob. They both pay other people to clean their houses. Please release yourself from the need to manufacture an opposites attract dynamic in every facet of their relationship, ESPECIALLY when the central conceit of hollanov as a couple is that they're more alike than everyone else seems to think.

Here's a reminder that I'd like to pass on to y'all: you absolutely can and should still have birthday parties as an adult

And I don't just mean a visit to a club or bar with your friends when you turn 21. I mean invite people over to your house and have themed plates and balloons. Go do an activity and rent the party room there and spend an extra hour sitting around in a different space talking to your friends while you eat cake.

Do this at 31 and 42 and 56 and keep doing it until your dead. Put on a little crown or birthday hat or sash and blow out some candles.

You don't have to stop having fun or celebrating your existence just because you're an adult. If you want to celebrate with streamers and confetti then you should do it. Stop telling yourself it's a little kid thing. Life is too short and the world is too terrible to deny yourself joy and community.
