Something I’ve learned while growing in management:

It’s okay to ask about your wages BEFORE you sign a letter of intention.

It’s not rude, uncouth, or disrespectful.

You are allowed to inquire if this is a set, flat rate. You are allowed to ask if there is a range and what the qualifications you need or meet to get you to that higher end. You are allowed to ask where you fall on that range. You are allowed to negotiate, or at least try to.

I can’t promise that your employer won’t give you bullshit answers or gas you up or falsify and/or twist their wording to make the truth sound like what you ~want~ to hear.

But I can promise you that you are allowed to ask. You’re allowed to negotiate your worth to that higher wage.

I went from minding my business to babysitting 200 employees and an increase in my 12 hour shifts from 5 days a week to sometimes up to 7. And all of that for $0.80 raise because I didn’t know how to ask. They were paying me what I was owed before, being vested, as a “promotion”

There is absolutely ZERO reason a new hire with no experience in my field would be making a higher wage than a senior, vested, and admin/managerial employee.

Know your worth and continue to be valued for it
