What we now know:

Ronan's snake scales are on his right arm apparently, according to the art accompanying the short story

The story is from the perspective of Casey, who lives somewhere coastal where everyone is having the same collective recurring dream

Blue and Gansey are gallivanting around doing ??? and they tip Ronan off about weird dream stuff

Ronan is wandering around (with Chainsaw) addressing said weird dream stuff

He stays at the Airbnb-ish thing Casey's parents have to look into the collective recurring dream

He apparently still doesn't have complete control over what he brings out of his head, because he does bring back part of the collective dream that starts growing on his arm

The Bryde dream mask thing makes an appearance when Casey helps a bro out so Ronan can dream something to address the dream stuff growing on his arm

help me with my uni project — questions for queer teens living in queerphobic environments: what are some challenges you face in accessing queer books and how do you overcome them? 🌈📚

Hey guys it's been a while! Truly sorry for long time no TRC content, I have been struggling with life ajfdhskadfj. Pls help with my bookish project for uni, I know there are a lot of y'all queer bookish people on here. I'm doing my senior capstone project on increasing access to queer books in the U.S., especially given the rising book bans and hostility towards queer people and themes. Queer books are so important to me, they helped me find my community (and my girlfriend! lol) and were a source of safety when my family was not. However, I grew up in California and always had easy access to queer books in my public/school libraries. Since I don't have personal experience not having access, I really want to hear from people who are experiencing this to better inform my project! If you have time to comment some thoughts in response to these questions, I'll be so grateful! You don't have to answer them all, any comment would be helpful!

What are some challenges you face in accessing physical queer books?

Are these books just not in schools/libraries/stores at all, or are they there but needing transportation/cost poses a challenge?

Is being seen holding or browsing overtly queer books a concern?

What are some challenges you face in accessing digital queer books (e-books, audiobooks, etc.)?

If you find it hard to buy/borrow digital queer books, what is the barrier (cost, needing a parent's credit card info, needing to sign up for a library card, etc.)?

What are some ways you still manage to get your hands on the queer books that you want to read?

Are there any websites that you have found useful?

Are there any frustrations with these sites and ways you think they could be improved?

If there was a "free online bookstore" of queer books where you could apply to receive a free copy, would you prefer to get it as an e-book, or as a physical book (if discreet shipping was an option)?

Where do you usually hear about queer books that you would like to read (Instagram, TikTok, friends, etc.?)

Anything else about your experience with accessing/not being able to access queer books would be appreciated!

I finally restarted my BLLB reread and I noticed these two lines a couple pages apart, the way Gansey catches himself and uses the plural pronoun instead of the singular:

And it reminded me of how, between the ages of 10 to 14, Gansey’s been traveling the world, alone. Of how the Glendower quest had only recently become a collective quest, one in which Gansey could share the excitements and the setbacks with people he loves. Of how lonely his search must have been before, with no one around him (except maybe Malory) truly understanding why he wanted it so badly.

And the second quote shows how Gansey thinks he always has to be the one to take on the emotional responsibility (“What can I do”), and how, maybe, knowing Blue and being with the gangsey is slowly teaching him that it doesn’t have to be just him and that they can all be there for each other.

Hi, I read that you've dealt with with impostor syndrome in the past, and I'm really struggling with that right now. I'm in a good place and my friends are going through a lot, and I'm struggling to justify my success to myself when such amazing people are unhappy. I was wondering if you have any tips to feel less like this and maybe be kinder to myself, but without hurting anyone around me. It's a big ask, I know, but any help would make my life a lot less stressful

The best help I can offer is to point you to Amy Cuddy’s book, Presence. She talks about Imposter Syndrome (and interviews me in it) and offers helpful insight.

The second best help might be in the form of an anecdote. Some years ago, I was lucky enough invited to a gathering of great and good people: artists and scientists, writers and discoverers of things. And I felt that at any moment they would realise that I didn’t qualify to be there, among these people who had really done things.

On my second or third night there, I was standing at the back of the hall, while a musical entertainment happened, and I started talking to a very nice, polite, elderly gentleman about several things, including our shared first name. And then he pointed to the hall of people, and said words to the effect of, “I just look at all these people, and I think, what the heck am I doing here? They’ve made amazing things. I just went where I was sent.”

And I said, “Yes. But you were the first man on the moon. I think that counts for something.”

And I felt a bit better. Because if Neil Armstrong felt like an imposter, maybe everyone did. Maybe there weren’t any grown-ups, only people who had worked hard and also got lucky and were slightly out of their depth, all of us doing the best job we could, which is all we can really hope for.

Gansey: when you have to just... repeatedly touch your eyeball because your contact lens won’t come out

Noah: when you thought you microwaved something/turned on the stove but you didn’t

Blue: when a plastic sealed package of food has that little slit to tear it open, but it doesn’t tear all the way across so you have to get the scissors anyways

Adam: when you reach the intersection right after the “walk” light turns red, so you have to wait a whole other traffic cycle

Henry: when there’s 3 perfectly good bars of wifi showing but nothing is loading

Ronan: storing something in a *very safe spot that you will never forget* and then forgetting where it is
