Stupid Batman idea: instead of all of his kids hyphenating their last names to [Name]-Wayne, Bruce starts hyphenating his own last name with every new kid he adds.
It starts with Dick, who suckers Bruce into it because “please stop crying, I promise I won’t make you change your name to Wayne” “if you want you can hyphenate it?” “No, I meant you can hyphenate your- okay. okay yes I can hyphenate my name if you really want, please stop crying I don’t know what to do-“ and boom. Bruce Wayne-Grayson. Luckily he’s only adopting one child ever, so that’s the end of that!
Then he adds -Todd because he wanted Jason to know he really truly meant it when Bruce was adopting him. And -Drake because if he didn’t do something drastic Tim would just keep inventing fake family members to get out of getting adopted. Then -Cain because Cass didn’t understand much spoken language but she knew her own name and she knew what it meant for Bruce to add it to his own. Then he tried to add -Brown because he skipped Steph the first time around and she went and died about it so he’s trying to be better but she said don’t even fucking think about it so he ended up not adding that one. Then -Al-Guhl so Damian could keep a connection to his mother, no matter how complicated Bruce’s own relationship with her is. And by the time Duke rolls around Bruce forgot he was adding last names for emotionally meaningful reasons and just added -Thomas, forgetting to tell Duke he was doing that, and got absolutely flamed by his kids when he offhandedly mentioned it and Duke had no goddamn clue what he was talking about.
He didn’t consider there’d be two Thomases in his name until he did it.
