I'm thinking about Missy and the Doctor again.
“She’s the only person I ever met who’s even remotely like me.” “..so you want her to be good.” Remember clara? Remember how Clara’s need for control over herself manifested in proving to HERSELF that she could have and be what she wanted. The impossible girl and the school teacher with a domestic boyfriend, and she lied and cheated and manipulated whenever she (thought that she) had to go prove she could do it. Clara and the doctor ever so similar.
The doctor needs missy to be good because he needs to believe he is good. Or at the very least know that he is not. He will go farther and farther to manipulate around missy to believe she is good and therefore he is good. Maybe he knew it wasn’t a good idea. Maybe he believed he was wrong. But that didn’t matter because he needed to know.
