Red bull seasonal edition: Fuji Apple & Ginger

Overall rating: oddly good.

The scent has that overpowering artificial-apple smell that a lot of novelty apple flavored sodas can't escape, so I wasn't expecting much. But it pulls it off! The apple is mellow, and the sweet notes are tempered by the spice and earth of the ginger.

In a lot of ways, this reminds me of the magic formula behind original red bull: a beautiful fusion of fruit and root that creates a balanced and lightly refreshing drink.

Paired into alcohol, I could easily see any vanilla-noted liquors bringing something seasonally extra, but I also think grenadine could pull it out of specifically autumn. It might enjoy the nuttiness of amaretto, but that would likely unbalance it without a third partner.

In homage to the humble jaegerbull, I'd want to look into using various spice liqueurs, particularly Jaeger or Drambuie, but I have a suspicion they'll overpower it.

Faery Champagne

1c Rosolio di bergamotto

1/2c Elderflower Rose gin

Elderflower tonic water to top

Drink glitter, lime to garnish.

A bit sweeter than a typical gin & tonic, with nice floral/herbal notes. I'm mostly enthralled by the presentation

Picture this: you're making yellow curry and you accidentally open a can of coconut cream instead of coconut milk. You've got a crap load of it open now and you just need to come up with a cocktail to use it. Note the ratios below are uhhhh quite approximate. I just poured directly into the shaker without measuring.

Blue Milk from Star Wars

4 parts coconut cream

1 part simple syrup

1 part light rum

1 part blue curaçao

1/2 part lime juice

Shake, serve in whatever. Add a fancy little straw if you feel like.

It's very creamy, as you might expect from the massive ratio of coconut cream. That's OK though, since it's supposed to be a cooling dinner drink a là mango lassi. It has just enough other flavors to lend complexity and smoothness, as the citruses play a soft counterpoint to the cream, and the alcohols give a light kick.

I used to have Stomach Acid as a freshman in college. It's.... Surprisingly good. It really brings out the fruity notes from the espresso.

Cinnamon Thrush

1oz bourbon

1/2oz Goldschlager

1/2oz light rum

2 dash maple syrup

1 dash hot water

Dash orange bitters

Cinnamon stick for garnish

Mix maple syrup and hot water in glass until combined (to ease syrup dissolving). Add all liquid ingredients and stir with ice.

It tastes like a Rusty Nail (the cocktail, not the tetanus infection) but much lighter on the palate. The goldschlager is definitely star of the show, a sweet cinnamon that's backed up by just enough maple. I'm not tied to the choice of base liquors, and I think that the bourbon I chose didn't have quite enough oak to stand up. All in all a delightful little after dinner treat.

The powder mix they're blowing on it is probably cinnamon and powdered sugar, which does that crackle effect when burned in the air. It should be safe to consume.

My biggest worry is actually the temperature of the glasses! Fire is hot (citation needed) and if left to burn for too long can heat up the rim of a cocktail beyond body-safe temperatures. Done badly enough, the heat gradient between the fire and cocktail can cause cracking in the glass.

Now, there is hope. In the third subvideo (bottom cocktail is a peach colored thing sucked up into an inverted glass) you can see the bartender pick up a cloth at the end. If I had to guess, this is a wet rag meant to starve out the flame and quickly take apart the cocktail before it can get too hot.

It's actually really good? The saffron lends a mellow floral flavor that sits well on the tongue. It's warming and comforting.

Instant coffee (est. 1tbsp)

Monster Zero Ultra (to top)

Given that the instant coffee is going to increase the head stability of the mixture, I'd actually recommend adding the vodka/coffee to the monster, not the other way around.

I think there's a place for a gin, coffee, citrus cocktail in the world. This isn't it.

What makes this art and not merely fuckery is that it's not "Malort Baseballs" or "Baseball Malort", it's that it's baseball infused Malort.

hi! :) wonderful drink suggestion. not evil i promise. its called the burger king limited edition strawberry spice sprite. ingredients: 1 part burger king limited strawberry spice sprite. you can stir or add ice or whatever, maybe a little umbrella. also serve in a glass cuz i wanna see what it looks like.

Ugh fiiiine.

It's bad, ok? It's got really shitty flavor balancing. The strawberry flavorant is super sweet and artificial and the spice is some undiscernable back-of-throat heat that adds nothing to the drink. There's absolutely nothing else going on in it, and no depth whatsoever.

This was clearly designed for a post-Taki child demographic.

Chaucer's sparkling mead

Wretched. Nafty. A libation most vile.

I've had a few meads and Chaucer is by far the worst. They also sell a non-sparkling mead and a few flavored meads.

Chaucer has a peculiar nose--sort of dry and rancid, like honey but with far more petroleum. It sits in the throat and dominates the overall flavor of the beverage. The rest of it's character is grassy and sour.

I think Chaucer tried to approach mead from the beer side, whereas Honeywood or Dansk Mjod approached it from the wine side. It doesn't work.

Combine, stir with ice.

It's. Oddly comforting. It tastes completely different from hot chocolate yet hits the same primal needs. The nose is centrally coffee, but a bit sweet and musky. It's relatively low proof, and sort of tastes like the midpoint between coffee and chocolate milk.

It's uh. It's bad. Sort of tastes like snorting licorice off the floor of a McDonald's kitchen. I can't say I'm surprised.
