My hottest take is that Challengers is about tennis players, but it is not about tennis. Even when they're allegedly playing tennis, they're actually talking about their feelings. Even when they're talking about tennis they're actually talking about their relationships. Nobody is ever actually talking about tennis and nothing that happens when they're playing tennis matters. It matters for their relationships, but their tennis careers in the film serve mostly as a metaphor for their relationships just like everything else does.
Patrick accuses Art and Tashi of avoiding real conversation by talking about tennis, but he knows full well they're not talking about tennis and HE is the one dodging by pretending to not understand the language all three of them speak fluently.
I've been super sane lately. Normal. Thinking like...wouldn't it be interesting if Patrick's backstory was that he was the scion of a wealthy family of evil healthcare industry people that run shitty old folks homes. He couldn't stand to take a penny more of their blood money, so that's why he was living in his car like a weirdo. Had he given up on tennis, he might have assassinated the CEO of a rival health insurance company.
One of my favourite things about Titans is that they don't explain things
Dick spent a whole episode talking shit about how impossible a prison break would be, how dumb it is, how they wouldn't get it done, and somehow he escaped his cell, got past guards inside and outside, got past the heavily secured outside doors in order to get into the yard and they did not feel the need to show the audience him doing any of this
They were just like "There. He escaped."
He escaped prison twice and they didn't show any of it. They were just like "he's outside now. Fuck it"
It feels so delightfully Wattpad fanfiction in that it skips over all the logistics in order to focus on character drama
There's a big sale happening right now for the end of the year, with up to 40% OFF everything on my online store 🌱
I'm trying to beat the holiday postage rush this year to help get everyones packages out on time, after that my shop will be on semi-hiatus from the 11th of December
Popping back into Tumblr for a hot second to reblog my art again since some of my shows slash ships are enjoying some renewed attention. I was never here. I love y'all but I was never here.
Hello. I mean this really imploringly, and really genuinely. If you're a U.S. citizen still on the fence about what to do for the election, please vote Harris. There's this idea circulating that the person you vote for should be someone you like, love, idolize and that is so very not true. You're voting for the opponent you'll face for the next four years when you have issues to protest and matters to vocalize. You're voting for the person most likely to give an inch when you protest the things that matter. You're voting for the person most likely to not strip away your existing rights and scatter your focus across the things we already won, and which can be taken away. We lost Roe v Wade under the Trump-appointed judges. The current trans-panic is so disgustingly on fire, and it's absolutely the Republicans eager to rip away what little protection there is. Both candidates are also, disgustingly, pro-Israel. But Trump will never ever give a fuck to any protest on that matter.
You don't want to be complicit in genocide. I get it. But if you're a U.S. citizen, you're already benefiting from the U.S.'s foreign policy, and that's already complacency. Refusing to vote or voting third party isn't absolving you of that. It's just letting Trump walk in the door. And letting Trump in is complacency. And your ability to organize, and to make change, will go so less far against a Trump cabinet than a Harris one. The material harm under Trump is real.
Does voting for Harris make you feel guilty? I'm sorry, but you have to bear it. Your guilt isn't what's important. A white person's guilt isn't important. A citizen of a global terror's guilt isn't important. Actions that pacify your guilt aren't important. Focusing on absolving your guilt is in fact harmful, as opposed to actions that can actually materially reduce harm.
Please protest. Please donate to good causes. Please support Palestine. Please be vocal. Please fight for BIPOC and LGBTQA+ rights. Please view Harris as the opponent whose ears these things fall on. Your ability to organize safely, largely, loudly, and effectively will go so much further under a Harris presidency. Please.
So glad election season's almost over! Voting 3rd party in person today! I've you're voting for genocide, I feel bad for you son. I got 99 problems and complicity in genocide ain't one.
Some things on social media exist exclusively for the purpose of filling me with rage. "Sailor Moon Crystal should have been a Space Opera" is very obviously a Youtube video that falls in that category.
No. Sailor Moon should be a magical girl anime. In fact, everything should be a magical girl anime. Voltron's fucking reboot should have been a magical girl anime. Your mom should have been a magical girl anime last night. Space operas are only for a specific category of nerds, and that genre can keep its grubby hands off everything else.
I met this nice girl through my college friend. She's my friend's childhood best friend and I had heard so much about her so I was really excited to finally meet her. The three of us hung out at a stupid school-sponsored event into the late hours of the night, drinking soda and eating pizza and getting to know each other. At the end of it, she entered into a raffle and ended up winning free tickets to Disneyland. We celebrated and parted ways. It was the highlight of that semester.
A few months later, Israel began dropping bombs on her family home. I watched from afar as her entire life fell apart and her family was displaced and killed. Every time I asked how she was doing, she was doing bad.
In Palestine, as in a lot of places in the world, it is shameful to ask for money. A little bit after the war began, I passed a message along to her family offering to help raise funds for their evacuation, but they declined saying that they didn't want pity from anyone. Now it seems like they're running out of options.
My friend has already lost so much so please spare her the additional indignity of asking for help and not receiving it. I can't imagine how soul crushing it would be to do something you believe to be shameful and for your effort to go to waste.
Their goal is only $5000 and they've already raised ~$820, I don't see why we can't raise the full amount within the next week.
For nearly a year, my family in Gaza has been forced to move from one place… Noura Elkhatib needs your support for Help 12 People in my Fami
Verified by the fact that this is literally my IRL. DM me if u wanna see her Instagram or other contact info proving she's real. Tumblr is a rather unsafe place for Palestinians so I'd rather not publicize all her personal info but I've been pretty careful with the fundraisers I boost on this blog so I hope you can trust me here.
EDIT 08/24/24:
Thank you all so much for your support. You have no idea what it means to me after so many months of witnessing zionist attacks both online and off, to see so many people come together and commit to helping someone I care about without a single zionist comment. There’s nothing but love here.
My friend reached her goal early this morning and I even saw people encouraging others to keep donating because they realized her family would need more. I am truly moved by this incredible show of compassion from everyone.
As you can imagine, life in Gaza is becoming increasingly more expensive. My friend has raised her goal to $10000 - let’s keep this train going and get her there within a week 🙏
