Playing Myself out // Prt. 4 - Curtains Closed.
My MIS has drawn to a close! And what a journey it has been! I have learnt so much throughout this year, both in the historical context of the Banjo and the practical elements. I intend to continue with learning and developing as a banjoneer and as a musician.
This MIS has provided me with a wide range of skills such as musicianship skills, connections with the musical minds of Darwin and has helped me develop as a person, through discovering new genres and sub genres of music. Learning banjo has given me the skill to handle crazy situations with confidence and approach different learning situations with an open mind with an ability to solve any problems with a clear and focused approach.
This MIS also helped me over come some of my "performance anxiety". I dislike performing in front of crowds because of how nervous I get, it's terrible, however during the performance of the Beat, I didn't feel nervous at all, and I would like to thank the ability to play the banjo; an unconventional instrument for helping me with my confidence in performing.
Through this MIS I have become comfortable with the banjo and other related instruments; such as the guitar. Being able to connect the two instruments through notation as well as design similarity has helped me explore both instruments to create my own work and collaborate with other musicians.
Throughout this study I reflected on my learning, and skills that I still needed to develop; such as accuracy of note values and accuracy in correct note playing. I feel like I have developed as a person through studying the Banjo, as it has been something I have been interested for a long time, and I am glad I found a school subject I could pursue learning it, as it gave me the drive, motivation, and persistence to stick to the instrument when I found something difficult. I developed musical tastes, knowledge and gained the ability to appreciate music of different eras and genres without a prejudice. (I also gained a better sense of humor; those banjo jokes really get me!)
Overall this Banjo Journal MIS was a really great experience, I wouldn't change anything I have done, as I feel that I have accomplished quite a lot throughout this year, and my focused study of the banjo. My time management developed and handled well throughout the study, by making time tables for myself, setting myself goals helped me create a product of high quality, in the way I challenged myself each week/fortnight and continued to do so throughout the course of the year.
