Noelle and Kris are really reminding me of The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen

We have two inseparable childhood friends. A tragic event weakens their friendship and causes them to drift apart: In the Snow Queen, it's Kai being pierced by the magic mirror, in Deltarune, it's Dess' disappearance

When Kai's frozen heart turns him cold and cruel, the Snow Queen steals him from his hometown, symbolizing how his cynicism and rejection of joy has separated him from his loved ones. Being with the Snow Queen slowly kills him, but all he notices is her beauty.

The player "freezes" Noelle's heart in the Weird Route, but instead of being taken by the Snow Queen, she becomes the Snow Queen. Being the Snow Queen is destroying her, but all she notices is how strong it makes her, and she decides to leave Hometown behind

But Noelle being Kai doesn't mean that Kris is Gerda. Gerda saves Kai, and I don't think Kris will be quite as successful in saving their childhood friend from "The Snow Queen."

Actually, Kris is also kind of Kai? Like Kai, losing their childhood joy and innocence has brought them down a cold, self-destructive path (and if theories are correct, Kris is under the influence of their own "Snow Queen")

So who is Deltarune's Gerda? Who has pure and unwavering love and support for her best friends, will stop at nothing to save them, and whose love can heal their frozen hearts?

Well...

not saying that Deltarune was intentionally inspired by The Snow Queen, just a fun thought experiment!

as someone who consumes most media, including Bridgerton, through wikipedia dives, tumblr posts, and youtube clips instead of actually watching it, take what i say with a grain of salt but...

everyone talks about Michaela from Bridgerton like she "replaced" Michael. and they'll say shit like "bring back Michael1!1!!" and even people who support it will be like "I like Michaela but I'll miss Michael :("

and like... no????

Michaela didn't replace anyone. She's an adaptation of Michael. She's literally Michael. Michael is there. He just happens to be a woman now. It's not rocket science

that's like if Monster High fans aid "bring back Frankie" because the g3 version of Frankie happens to be nonbinary, and treated them like a fundamentally different concept instead of a different iteration of the same character

it'd be one thing if people were saying that they "wished they didn't change Michael's gender" but the language they use with Michaela indicates that they perceive male and female as like, different species, so alien and disparate that there's no room for crossover, to the point that they cannot wrap their heads around the fact that they're two versions of the same character concept

i feel like EAH should've explored the idea that older variants of fairytales are considered the "ancestors" to the current gen.

Then you could reference how in many Snow White variants, including the original Grimm, the Evil Queen is Snow White's biological mother, not stepmother

you could have Apple having to confront the fact that she's pushing Raven into a destiny her own family once suffered: Snow Whites having to abandon their happily ever afters and be forcibly turned into Evil Queens and try to kill their daughters
