being anti ai is making me feel like in going insane. "you asked for thoughts about your characters backstory and i put it into chat gpt for ideas". studies have proven its making people dumber. "i asked ai to generate this meal plan". its causing water shortages where its data centers are built. "ill generate some pictures for the dnd campaign". its spreading misinformation. "meta, generate an image of this guy doing something stupid". its trained off stolen images, writing, video, audio. "i was talking with my snapchat ai-" theres no way to verify what its doing with the information it collects. "youtube is impletmenting ai based age verification". my work has an entire graphics media department and has still put ai generated motivational posters up everywhere. ai playlists. ai facial verification. google ai microsoft ai meta ai snapchat ai. everyone treats it as a novelty. every treats it as a mandatory part of life. am i the only one who sees it? am i paranoid? am i going insane? jesus fucking christ. if i have to hear one more "well at least-" "but it does-" "but you can-" im about to lose it. i shouldnt have to jump through hoops to avoid the evil machine. have you no principles? no goddamn spine? am i the weird one here?
Reposting this because op is spitting facts and I want everyone who follows me to know this is a strictly anti ai blog.
1950s science fiction magazines had names like "THE MOST AMAZING STORIES", headlines going all "the most bizarre and insane mindblowing surreal horror tales that will blow your nuts clean off!" and then you read one and it's like
"Hey what if there was a cockroach that was as smart as people and could talk. And when you tried to kill it, it'd look at you like bruh. So now you can't kill it."
And that would be the smartest story in the magazine.
The rest of it would be “what if the Cold WAR IN SPACE”, “what if sexism IN SPACE”, or a gleeful mix of both.
"I made a SEXY ROBOT WIFE to replace my HUMAN BITCH WIFE but now I have ROBOT BITCH WIFE who wants to kill me!"
9 Lines, Some People
So, I'm following the example of my tagger, @tea-and-typewriter , and I'm nawt tagging nine people. Instead, I'll make it an open tag. If you wanna do this, go right ahead!
As for the lines themselves, here's some from my current WIP: The Man with No Face!
They've been swallowed into the sea and a layer after that. These people, your creed, believed that the stars could be found there.
If it comes to it, prepare to send him under. Get a bagel afterward. I forgot about breakfast.
Great, now I have to figure out how to get grass stains out of my best shirt.
I'm surrounded by art funded on desperation.
Any time spent with him is slicing years off your life. I'll be lucky if I make it to forty.
Unrelated to writing, but I’m cross stitching a little dragon in a teacup, and I think everyone who follows me should know.
It’s not finished yet, but it’s coming along!
It’s finished! Time to hang it.
Crazy how many people I've seen say "Generative AI is not plagiarism, human writers just rearrange other works, too!"
Way to tell on yourself that you don't know how to make art lmao. There's a great Hayao Miyazaki quote (the thing he actually said in the image that got later captioned to say "anime was a mistake") that goes a long way to shutting this misconception down.
You see, whether you can draw like this or not, being able to think up this kind of design, it depends on whether or not you can say to yourself, “Oh, yeah, girls like this exist in real life.” If you don’t spend time watching real people, you can’t do this, because you’ve never seen it. Some people spend their lives interested only in themselves. Almost all Japanese animation is produced with hardly any basis taken from observing real people, you know. It’s produced by humans who can’t stand looking at other humans. And that’s why the industry is full of otaku!
Good art comes from life. You cannot make something impactful by just observing what others have already made, and anybody who claims that you can is simply looking for an excuse not to do the hard parts of art.
Thinking about posting some of my art on this account, maybe if the characters from my wip. I joined an art discord yesterday and it has my creative gears turning again.
9 Lines, 9 People
Thanks, @aether-wasteland-s for tagging me!
I’m passing this along to @indoorghost @finchmomentwrites @darlingplanetary and @ryns-ramblings , plus an open tag to anyone else who sees this and wants to add their own lines.
Rules - post 9 lines from your WIP and tag 9 people (or whoever - I only tagged 4, so who am I to judge)
----------
Here are the first nine lines of my current WIP. I picked it back up after two years of it collecting dust, and rewriting this passage was one of the most recent things I've done. The main character's name is still subject to change.
Content Warnings: space, solitude, general danger
----------
Del Kendri prided himself on his vast knowledge of the universe, but the cold feeling of drifting alone through space wasn't on he had planned on learning. Well, he supposed, sometimes knowledge finds you whether you want it to or not.
An asteroid the size of his chest flew past him, pulling him back from his thoughts. It had missed him, but barely. Del wasn’t sure how much longer his luck would last.
The asteroid storm had started suddenly, and Del had been too absorbed in his work to notice until the first asteroid flew by. They came with a fury, bouncing into the ship with metallic thuds. Delany raced towards one of the ship’s top hatches, ducking as an asteroid flew at his head. His safety line wasn’t so lucky.
9 lines, 9 people
thanks to @reneesbooks for the tag! i'm passing this over to a bunch of people new around here, so please let me know if you'd rather not be tagged in the future
@tea-and-typewriter , @mxxnlightwriting , @mercury-waters , @isherwoodj , @tragicheirs , @jinnybinghamsghost , @half-hell , @looseleafluci and @finickyfelix (no pressure :) )
“Of course!” It hummed, waving at him. “Come on, then, captain! If it’s a fight you want…” James clambered down the rigging, waiting on his feet to feel the familiar shift of solid wood before he truly let himself register what Pan had said. To it, he shook his head with about as much confidence as he could muster. “I am no man’s captain.” “There’s nobody else on this ship… That makes you its captain, no?” “I am not— nor can I be— her captain. Nobody remains to be commander over an empty vessel.” “Patience, James… All of it will come, in time. For now, it’s just you and me!” “Well, let’s settle this score, demon.”
Do y’all ever look at your characters and go “….wow, I am making you make bad decisions….well, anyway.” ?
Because same.
i wrote a twin cinema poem about two gay soldiers in wwi
context: the two sides, read separately, are the two soldiers thinking about their futures with each other. when read together, it's a reflection of their final thoughts when they die together struck by bullets <3
Tw: minor medical discussion, dislocations, rant
Might get some writing done tonight because I can’t sleep, because I dislocated my shoulder. Normally my joints go back into place on their own within like a day, but my shoulder has been out for almost 3 now. Might actually have to go to urgent care tomorrow. Hypermobility syndrome kinda sucks, ngl.
Happy STS!
Do you have any tropes or genres that you like reading but not writing? (or reverse, any that you like writing but not reading?)
Hiya!
This is a couple days late, but I'm answering anyway. As far as genres I like to read but not write - mystery is my top answer. I absolutely love reading a good mystery, especially if it's a detective story. However, I don't enjoy the specific type of attention to detail required to write a good mystery, and I'm too much of a perfectionist to settle for writing a bad mystery.
As far as genres I like to write but not read, I can't think of any. For me, the writing process involves spending time studying works written by other authors, so I don't think I could write in a genre I hate to read. For example, I don't particularly enjoy reading westerns, so I won't be writing one. I would feel like I was missing an understanding of the genre that can only come from reading it.
Unrelated to writing, but I’m cross stitching a little dragon in a teacup, and I think everyone who follows me should know.
It’s not finished yet, but it’s coming along!
WIP Word Guessing Game
Rules: Send me an ask with a word and I'll post a sentence or paragraph from one of my WIPs that contains that word!
If you manage to stump me, I'll write three sentences and share these.
Unrelated to writing, but I’m cross stitching a little dragon in a teacup, and I think everyone who follows me should know.
Soooo what are we using to track word count and other writing goals in 2025?
