Thanks to a monumental 1982 ban on commercial whale hunting on all whale species, the humpback whale population has risen from 2,000 to 35,000 in just 40 years, close to their population before whaling. This resurgence has led to the whales becoming increasingly spotted along their annual migration routes, with thousands of humpback whales migrating through Brazilian waters, including some of the southern Atlantic Ocean’s most biodiverse marine ecosystems!
