In this post, I list 7 of my all-time favorite apps / chrome extensions that I use daily. I hope I can help out some fellow uni students who are struggling. This might help make studying less painful and a tiny tiny bit more enjoyable.

writing an essay in college is very different from writing an essay in high school. personally, i write more research/history papers than literary essays (the liberal arts life and curse), so this is going to be a post on how a general research-y essay that has a thesis and arguments.
intro
don’t open with a quote and don’t be overly broad.
avoid generalizations
your intro should address the topic of your essay (ex. the significance of gardens in renaissance society), and then narrow down to what you want to talk about in regards to your topic (ex. the political influence of the Medici gardens during the renaissance)
thesis! it should include the argument you want to make about the narrowed down topic, and three (or however many your class requires) reasons to support it. I like to think of it as W = X + Y + Z.
your thesis explains who, what and why in a concise manner.
body
topic sentences should not be a word for word copy of your thesis.
the order of arguments in your thesis is the order of your paragraphs
depending on the length of your essay, there should be at least two justifications to your argument.
so, just as the intro has a formula, X = A + B, and so forth.
A and B should be backed up with some sources/quotes. don’t forget that if you are quoting from class notes to put either the prof’s last name, or (class notes)
be sure to have clear and concise arguments, don’t be flowery
USE WORDS THAT ARE ACCURATE. thesaurus is great but if you use a word that sounds cool but doesn’t capture the meaning you want to convey then don’t use it, because it may just change the meaning of your argument
quote whatever isn’t yours. it is completely fine if 90% of your sentences are quotes. its weird to get used to, but don’t worry about it.
conclusion
the worst part in my opinion.
synthesize don’t summarize. show how your arguments relate back to the thesis.
try not to copy paste your thesis into the conclusion, word it so that the readers understands that through XYZ, you were able to conclude and support argument W (referring back to the thesis formula)
do not add any new information, do not add quotes.
your final sentence should tie up the essay in a pretty bow, but try to avoid clichés
protips
when writing the body paragraphs, your ‘weakest’ paragraph should be in the middle, strongest as your last, and the second best as your first.
if you’re stumped on the intro, skip it. write out the body first, then the intro and you’ll be able to concisely word your thesis
think of your essay as an infomercial. your intro is the loud and clear HERES MY PRODUCT, the body is blasting information on why the product is so cool, and the conclusion is the final push for the viewer to buy that product. make your teacher want to agree with your thesis!
use a mix of paraphrase and quotes!
don’t forget your works cited lmao (the MLA Handbook is a gr8 tool, also OWL Purdue)
prime time for essay writing is in the morning or at night, but make sure you edit it meticulously
EDIT ON PAPER NOT ON YOUR SCREEN
stay humble, study hard
need help thinking of a research question for a paper with really un-specific guidelines?
have no fear! essay generator is here.
but all seriousness guys this is so cool
you just type in what your topic is, topic type and...
boom! some topics to start you off! sometimes the topics aren’t that... great, but it’s better than having literally nothing!
write on, little doves.
so while i was at work, i discovered that canva lets you make worksheets! i figured that since my thesis statement post did rather well, i thought about making a thesis statement + essay outline set of worksheets that are free to use (please don’t resell them though!) ♡

Okay, so you’ve been called smart all your life. As a kid, you were one of the smartest in your class. Maybe you could read at a much higher level than your peers, or you could fly through multiplication drills like they were nothing. Then, you get to high school and suddenly you’re surrounded by lots of people who were ‘gifted kids’. None of what made you ‘special’ seems all that important now. Your work is actually challenging, and it’s actually requiring effort.
If you’re experiencing this, just know that so many students have gone through the same thing. Maybe it happens in high school, maybe college. But a lot of us who were considered gifted as kids suddenly run into this and it challenges our entire identity. It can be paralyzing, but it’s 100% possible to overcome it and succeed! I’ve compiled a few tips for ex-gifted kids dealing with impostor syndrome and self-doubt. I’m not a therapist, psychologist, or any sort of education expert. I’m just speaking to my own experiences, and I welcome any input from others who have insight into this as well!
1. Understand that working hard does not mean you aren’t intelligent. If something doesn’t come naturally to you, that’s not a reason to give up. Believing that people can do things “just because they were born with a talent for it” is only going to hurt you. It’s not true! People may have natural aptitudes for things, but hard work is involved even for the smartest or most talented people. You are capable of learning anything, and you don’t have to be “good at it” right away to do so.
2. Comparison will kill you. You are your only competition. Focusing on how you rank with other students, and comparing yourself to your classmates is going to exhaust you. By focusing on others, you can’t put your full energy into focusing on your work and yourself. You belong. Even if you struggle with your work, you belong. Focus on your own self-improvement and doing your best.
3. Don’t focus on the goal, focus on your current actions. If you’re always thinking about the future, and about whether you’ll get into that school or that program or win that award or get that scholarship, you’re not using that time to get work done. Don’t worry about college applications, just do your homework. Focus on what you are doing now to reach your goals so you can apply to schools with confidence later.
4. Your grades may not reflect intelligence, but they do reflect work ethic. Don’t let others convince you that grades mean nothing. They sure as hell mean a lot to colleges, and thinking that you should “reject the current education system” is not going to harm anyone but yourself. If you don’t feel like you’re learning anything in your high school classes, that’s all the more reason to want to get into a university that will challenge you. If you put effort into your work, it will not let you down. Your hard work will be reflected on your transcript. Don’t lose focus.
5. Talk to someone. Let people know if you’re struggling. It can be hard to feel like you aren’t allowed to identify as “smart” or to feel pressure to constantly compete and improve. I went to a highly competitive high school that pushed kids to cope in dangerous ways. This is not healthy and not okay. If you’re feeling overwhelmed you need to find healthy coping mechanisms. Speak with someone you trust and don’t let yourself spiral. Don’t try to self medicate. Your well being is always more important than your grades. Period.
6. Enjoy yourself. School may seem like hell, and you may feel like it will never end and you’ll always be stressed and worried. But high school is only four years, and you can do things during that time that you probably won’t ever again. Take advantage of things that seem fun, even if people think they’re nerdy or weird. Try and remind yourself that you’re lucky to have your education and you have the power to do great things with it. Don’t lose sight of your own ability and your bright future!

Saw this somewhere else and felt the need to post it cause no one else ever really tells you this stuff
My mom never really noticed. She noticed when she was breast feeding my little brother and blood started coming out instead of milk.
My mom said she felt and saw a little lump in the shower. She was lucky enough she found it at stage 2
My mom had a mammogram. The radiologist thought the spots were just regular calcium deposits.
Turns out it was triple negative breast cancer that had spread to her lymph nods. Mastectomy, radiation and chemo saved her life.
This could SAVE a life.
dont be embarrassed to reblog, this post could be life saving
Signal BOOST and pass it on. I had a breast cancer scare before (luckily it was just scar tissue…) and information like this kept me calm and collected at the doc’s.
As a cancer patient myself, who found my own cancer through a supposed LARPing injury last year, i know how scary it is and how important it is to catch it early. Please spread this around!
listen to ur boobs
its all in the boobs
hoW MANY TIMES AM I GOING TO REBLOG THIS ! SORRY FOLLOWERS , #sorrynotsorry
Always reblog!
REBLOG,THIS COULD SAVE SOMEBODY!!! DONT BE EMBARRASSED!!!
B
Reminder that anyone who grew their own breast tissue can get breast cancer. That includes trans women, intersex peeps, and cis men who may not have been aware there could be some breast tissue in there. The only way to be sure you don’t have any at all is if you’ve had it all removed. If you’ve had tissue removed for reasons other than cancer, they likely didn’t remove all of it. If you find something weird, regardless of who you are or how you identify, get it checked out.
All of you should reblog this. Breast cancer affects everyone and there’s not enough information about it.
Richard Roundtree, the actor who played Shaft, had breast cancer. He found a lump under his nipple while in the shower. Everyone should do self exams.

Heard it here folks:listen to your boobs
Trans men and transmasculine folks, sorry, you aren’t exempt from this. Even if you’ve had top surgery. There’s still some breast tissue left, just like in cis men.
CHECK YOURSELVES. ALL GENDERS.

Understand that it is an unavoidable part of life
Everyone fails. EVERYONE. In the midst of one sadness and disappointment, it is easy to forget about that, but we guarantee that everyone you idolise has a fair share of failures behind them (seriously, google “famous people failure”). Once you realise that even the most successful people had to deal with what you’re dealing with right now, it becomes a little easier to carry on and start again
Talk to someone
It hurts to fail, plain and simple. It might make you feel better if you talk to someone about it- it can be a family member, a friend, a therapist or a random person on the internet- anyone you feel comfortable talking to. Find someone you can ask for advice or just someone you can vent to, as there is no point in dealing with it alone and it might actually make the whole process harder. The stigma surrounding failure is absurd and everyone would be better if people were just open about it. (also, sidetone: nothing bonds people more than talking about difficult experiences, really)
Give yourself time to get over it
Every wound needs time to heal, specially ones in your heart and although there is nothing good in brooding in your sadness for weeks and weeks, it is perfectly natural to not be ok for some time. You tried, sometimes really hard and yet you failed and this must hurt. Give yourself time to acknowledge your feelings and some time before you’re ready to try again
Re-evaluate
Not succeeding at something is actually a good moment to think about your goals. Do you still want to pursue the thing you failed at or maybe is it time to try something new? This one is actually a little tricky, because of the natural lingering fear of failing again, but try to ignore this little voice and just be honest with yourself- do you want to try again and if not- why? Is it because you are scared or do you just not want to do this thing anymore? Try to not let fear dictate your decisions, however hard it might seem to be and really think about what you want in the long run.
Realise what went wrong
Be honest with yourself - did you do everything you could’ve done? Focus on bettering yourself and trying to avoid the same mistakes next time.
Plan
This is connected with the previous ones- if you decide you want to try again and you realise what you can improve, the time comes for creating a plan. Having everything written down- when you’re doing something, what you need to remember about and what you need to focus on- will give you a sense of control, which will be priceless, because it will keep you motivated and in higher spirits.
If you want to stop trying, stop
Like we mentioned before- sometimes failure makes you realise you just don’t want to do something and that is ok. If you find yourself in a situation where pursuing something again will cause you more stress and unhappiness than the possible positive outcome, just give up and be happy.
