teagan yoon is born the eldest daughter to a korean father and french mother . rooted heavily in new money . for the first five years of her life , things were good . her father doted on her as did her mother . it was just teagan and her brother . it couldn’t be much more of a nuclear family type of deal . her father had been a workaholic . constantly spending nights at the plastic and reconstructive surgery clinic he worked tirelessly to build . to an extent , he had never been an absent father . and the relationship between her parents worked .
at age 5 , the yoon family is disrupted by the arrival of her younger sister , paige . teagan is ten when their mother decided to uproot her life in new york to return to paris . her parents never divorced . just lived separate lives . teagan never understood why . things only seemed to get worse from there . her dad spent more time at work and focused his attention on paige . with fluttering doe eyes and sugary sweet persona , paige is the opposite of teagan . and it’s hard not to focus one’s attention on the youngest yoon . she’s perfect in her father’s eyes . so what does teagan do ? turn to her mother . she may not understand why she moved back to paris but she needed to have at least one parent to turn to .

he clears his THROAT , swirling WHISKEY in his own glass , downing the REST of it with a face and shake of his head . " what ever could you mean ? that dinner did not just make me ten times more suicidal than i already was , " and eight freezes at his sister's comment . " they're about as BAD as they always have been . why --- what ... " he pauses , clears his throat , " what makes you say that ? " was it the way that any little thing turned into bickering ? or was it the constant roll of eyes and snapping at each other ?
she’ll roll her eyes at his response , reaching for her own drink . “ listen , i know things have always been bad but it just feels … worse . and no , i don’t think i’m looking too much into it . ” while eight often acts as a peacemaker between well … the entire family , teagan’s not oblivious to how things are between the eldest yoon child and the yoon patriarch . “ things just seem far more tense . a lot more bickering than usual . is he being an ass about residency or what ? ”
“ well family dinner was … ” she elects not to finish her response . “ i honestly don’t know why he insists on these monthly dinners . it’s not like my relationship is the best . and is it me or are things between you and him even worse than before ? ”
“ teagan baby , come on , you know me . expecting me not to cause a scene ? that’s literally my whole personality . but hey , i promise to only be , like , 85% of the reason ski patrol gets involved this time . and if i do end up getting a trail closed , i’ll make it up to you . maybe a private lesson in how not to ski ? those are in high demand . plus , it’s a great excuse to hang out with your very attractive ski instructor . that’s me , by the way . ”

an amused smile surfaces on her lips . “ that wasn’t the intent but if the shoe fits . ” she’ll shrug . “ you just don’t seem like a top shelf whisky or scotch kinda person . raspberry vodka on the other hand ? it just fits . ”
" thirteen ?!? you know , i can eat but i think after like eight or nine i might just explode , " she teases , though the growl that rumbles through her stomach is definitely tempting her to see if she can make it to the finish line . " why don't we grab , like , six now for lunch and then take the other seven back to my place to have for dinner . . . we can crack open a bottle of wine , watch a movie , " the word watch used lightly — after a glass or two of pinot noir aria's attention starts to run quite thin . “ well , i guess some people are just not the brightest bulb in the box , ” camille muses , more to herself than to teagan . “ i mean , i've done some pretty dumb shit too before , but stabbing a heart - shaped balloon with a spoon is definitely not of one of them . why not just step on the fucking balloon if they don't have a fork ? like what are they even trying to achieve at this point ? unless they're like super drunk or high , i'd say it's pretty embarrassing to be caught doing that shit sober . do you even know them though ? i hope not . ”
“ i don’t . thank god . could you imagine ? ” teagan responds with a light chuckle . it really could be worse , the balloon stabber could’ve turned out to be her sister . paige is known to be dramatic after all . a stark contrast between the two yoon sisters . “ then again , if it were someone i knew then that definitely wouldn’t be happening in the first place . but you’re right some people just aren’t the brightest so we should be managing expectations . ” probably explains why teagan is so selective with who she lets into her inner circle . “ super drunk or high i get . i’m sure we’ve all done some questionable things . but sober ? now that was a conscious decision . i need them to live with it . ”
