And of course my Brazilian combo!
Fuel for tomorrow's 4:15 ride. Not even sure this is enough.
I showered and I still smell like chlorine. #swimtraining #trilife #tritraining
8 weeks to go!
Yesterday Sara and I went on a long bike ride: the goal (per training guide IronFit, natch) was 4:15 hrs, which we did, but with stops took longer all around. We went up many long, steep hills in the hilltowns (Conway, Ashfield) and it was beautiful, painful and exhilirating. We ended up biking about 58 miles. I went for a 15-min run after that and felt my left knee, which is odd. Within an hour, I knew I had done some damage. I iced the knee, took Alleve and went to bed hoping it would feel better in the morning. It did, but then it started hurting as soon as I stood around a bit and started walking.
So I guess I cannot do my 2-hr run today. Disappointed, but really hoping this is temporary.
Ona nother note, I am starting to train with the race drink (Gatorade Endurance), which is decent for Gatorade but otherwise lousy and expensive. Decided that I will do half my own drink and half course drink. My own drink? A yummy concoction of 3/4 coconut water ad 1/4 berry juice of some sort.
fuel for a long bike ride (along with gatorade endurance and Gu)
My first solo triathlon, a sprint in Joinville, Santa Catarina (Brasil, claro!), in 2002. Rained the whole time. Second place in age group. No technology at all (maybe a watch?). Exhilirating, as always.
sore beyond belief
After a 55-mile ride on Sunday and 11.5-mile run on Monday, I am sore beyond belief. The "neck" of my big toe has never hurt or cracked this much, my right butt cheek muscle (sorry, no time to look up that fancy name) is screaming, my neck and upper back are extremely tight, and I just want to sleep, soak in a hot tub, and get a 5-hr massage. Wow.
Fuel
Just because it's silly.
week 7
After a week off due to a bad cold, I started week 7 off pretty well with a 10-mile run yesterday and a double-dipper today: a 1.2-mile swim in the morning and a 5-mile run in the evening.
Very sore. Left big toe hurts like crazy.
Also, I actually registered for the race. Duh! And Sara got plane tickets! NO TURNING BACK.
Soon, our Rally Me campaign begins and we will actually ask for donations. The money for this ain't growing on my trees, that's for sure.
Ready for some outdoor rides. #outofthebasement
I made it into the local paper! The run for St. Patrick's Day was great -- a bit chilly, but a lot of fun with the crowds and costumes. Some fans were a bit too drunk for my taste, but support is always welcome! I was about 40 seconds SLOWER than last year, which isn't great, but I also did not try to pass anyone during the first mile, when the slow hoards of people are moving through downtown streets. Followed this 10K on Saturday by a brick training on Sunday (2:15 bike with 5-min run--cut so short because of awful wind and knee pain). The bike ride felt brutal on my quads.
Something to try
end of week 3
Feeling exhausted overall and pain in the quads after yesterday's 90-min run and the previous day's BRIC (105-min bike and 15-min run). But week 3 is over and today is the off day!
