Style breakdown that nobody asked for, but I'll do anyway because this is my blog and I can do as I please.

Krystal gets introduced in S5 as a competitor to Flora, but I chose to make her a bit younger and an old friend to Helia instead, so I wanted her fashion to lean into cutesy and youthful to reflect the child-like angle.

As much as I love the bright colours of the show, I personally give the characters more natural base haircolours (magic trnasformation hairdy aside) - but Krystal's purple hair was just so iconic. But you know what could be colourful irl? headscarfs! In my rewrite, I made Lynphea/ lynpheans based on Southeast Asia - with Flora being Filippina specifically. Her and Krystal look similar-ish, but I wanted Krystal to hail from a different part of Lynphea. So given all that, I chose to loosely base her cultural ties on Indonesia (Java).

That being said her first outfit is a nod to @teawinx's lillypad magic winx design (the pink colour and the obvious lillypad buckle).

The second is formalwear featuring a green sarong and matching lace shirt. I picked green as Lynphea's representative colour for obvious plant reason's but it also works well here since it's the colour of Islam. Her belt is an upside down crown, based on a real artefact found on Jawa from ca 4.century BC (iirc). Since I left the sarong plain, I couldn't resist adding in some batik on her logic-defying sash (how does it wrap around her? don't worry about it, it's the magic of 2D designs 😅).

The third casual outfit is inspired by what was hip at the time with the youth as I was drawing it. Remember the summer of those blocky wavy checkered or melted design? Giant bouba desing with popping colours? Also daisies everywhere. That. Her bag is an actual bag from an indie brand, carmiico (?) on twitter. Afaik they didn't make it in this exact colour but the tulip bag concept slaps so fucking hard.

Magic forms. Her BM top is based on a real one - or the sleeves are at least that gave me the inspo for the flower concept for her top and hijab. Yes it is meant to be a rose ok. Since it's a magic form, rules of physics can be ignored, so that apron goes straigth through the fabric of the skirt lol. The real reason her charmix brooch isn't a brooch is that I forgot about it while designing and decided to make any kind of jewellery fair game in future...

Enchantix is the same outfit formula as her formalwear, but with a longer shirt. Since I am not doing naked skin with her, I went for flowy, slightly sheer fabrics for her sleeves and sarong, but kept the barefoot sandal thing. On her top there are some medicine associated symbols, like the snake on the belt and the green clover/cross on her chestplate/giant necklace. her little lace gloves are also meant to mimic rubber gloves. Keeping up with the theme, her wings are basically macrophages (white bloodcells) with the inner pink bits being cells undergoing endothelial to mesenchymal transformation. Fun fact, I drew that during a physics conference my supervisor took me to. I am not a physicist. Anyway, let me toot my horn tho bc I think this hijab design witht he little buns is the cutest I've ever made her look.

Onyrix, my beloved neon pipes look. Her flowers are camomille flowers, chosen for their medical properties, calming and anti-inflammatory. Drink camomille kids, according to my mother it cures everything 😂

And finally her witch look, since I decided she studied all three magic streams a bit before settling on fey magic. Another batik design on the bottom of the skirt, this one from a reference image. This is mostly a pink/purple look with just those little bows being green, which timeline wise makes it so that she gradually changes main colour from pink to pastel green. In my mind I associated pink with her witch powers and green with increasing comfort with her fey magic. As for representing 'magic' I decided fairies sparkle and witches just emitt a glow so you can tell someone is juiced up even without the wings.

Yes, I know, ME actually uploading? I know I know people can do hard things

For ages now I've been doodling Season 4 redesigns because I really feel that those casual outfits are AWFUL. Especiallt coming after the first two sets of casual fits that are perfect. So I wanted to try and design looks that feel like something they'd wear in the first seasons. With all the y2k weirdness that comes with it

I wanted to be bold and experimental, like the og seasons, since Winx has always prided itself on bold fashion choices. Colour combos that most shows would shy away from and make it fabulous. I wanted the girls to be diving into this new chapter of their lives with fun outfits that are something old and something new

I also tried both long haired and short haired looks for Bloom and Flora. Rainbow would NEVER cut their hair, but in my dream reality they'd be allowed to rock short cuts too.

Anyway I've been playing around with these looks for a couple of years by now, so it was finally time to lay them to rest and get 'em finished

I might play around and do some more looks for s4 we never know

Let me run through some context before I can get to these. "Apologies"

So, like I said, V4ngelix made an utterly false call-out post about my friend Nove. Without checking her claims even a fucking little bit!! V4ngelix has since thankfully deleted the post, so I can't link to it but I can link Nove's response post and show you some screenshots:

If it isn't obvious!!! This shit is insanely irresponsible!!! First, creating a bullshit call-out post and then never making a retraction??? Cool, so anyone who saw Ray's original post but not Nove's defense will still believe all these horrible claims about her!! Thats so indicative of believing in "being held accountable".

Second, that last screenshot is actively calling for harassment against Nove!! Asking people to falsely report someone's blog is fucking harassment!!! Surprise surprise!!! In her haste to accuse Nove of harassment, she tried to start a false harassment campaign against Nove!!

You might be wondering why I'm bringing a deleted call-out post, that is because V4ngelix keeps going around saying she's apologized and either IGNORES HER VICTIM'S WISHES OR IMMEDIATELY DELETES THE APOLOGY

I notice you draw Yang and Blake together a lot. Are you a bumblebee shipper? (I say this having almost no knowledge of the show besides a few s1 episodes I watched years ago and the fact that they’re canon and that’s their ship name lol)

I LIKE them as a couple, but mostly because of the version of them that exists rent free in my head. Their canon versions are fine ig, but yes I do ship bumblebee!

I just also think that they could have had a way better story, but hey what can ya do.

(I also hc that Blake is like 6f2 and Yang is a short King and loves her tol girlfriend sm)

What inspired you when redesigning the RWBY gang? I’d especially like to hear your thought process on Blake and Ruby

I never posted this but I also did Ruby and Weiss in anime too!

Pure 90s anime and fighting games like Guilty Gear and Street Fighter. Rwby is HEAVILY inspired by anime, and I just wanted to go all out with that aesthetic. Flashy, colourful and technically no practical, but looking so cool while doing it.

I also wanted to try and veer these designs away from how uh... male gaze-y the originals are. As iconic as they are, you can tell that a man designed these. Weiss running into combat wearing a STRAPLESS dress haunts me. Combat skirts are perfectly acceptable, but a strapless dress is not.

Ruby herself is the least interesting to talk about, design wise, because I've really not changed her. OG Ruby is extremely solid. I'm honestly kinda disapointed in myself for not changing her more, I really struggled with it. But maybe that just shows that Ruby's first look is really just that good. The main thing I wanted to change was her hair. I don't LOVE the gradient since you can barely see it, but it's a shame that she's the only member of team RWBY who's hair doesn't represent her colour. So she gets a fun cap, that also serves to hide her wolf ears!

Blake was a lot of fun to redesign, because her canon design really isn't much. It's fine but it's not much. I wanted to change up her silhouette from Yang's by tying up her hair and then making her fucking huge. Suuuuuper tall. That was just for me. Then I put her in mostly black, which is something the show hasn't figured out how to do yet. I wanted her to look sleek and sporty, with nothing hindering her movements. I love herrr

I have a three questiona for your hypothetical Jewel Riders reboot:

Do you still plan to redesign add Drake and Tara to the main cast?

If you do, since everything is space themed now since Tamara's jewel is now the Star Stone, what are your ideas to change Drake's Forest Stone and what would you give Tara?

Do you plan on redesigning any of the other characters like Archie, the animal babies, Merlin, Kale, Gwen's parents, etc.?

P.S., I LOVED the Jewel Riders as a kid and wished that there was a third season of it or a reboot of it. I'm not entirely certain yet actually. Namely because I'm going back to the drawing board with quite a few things (namely Fallon) and stuff like the Stones are likely to be changed. I'm thinking of changing Tamara's stone to be the Comet Stone, which then means that Tara could get the Star Stone to match her sister's. But I'm unsure for now. As for Drake I really don't know either. He's still getting a stone, I just don't know what astral body he'll get yet.

Yes yes and yes. Well maybe not the animal babies and Archie (fuck Archie) but I do plan on getting to the others eventually. I have started a design for Kale but she's very very far from being realised yet. Namely because her og design is so ass and uses very harmful stereotypes (if you know you know).

Thank you so much for taking an interest in this little project, it honestly means a lot to me! I'm really busy atm but I really hope I can get back to it when I can. I really wanna rework everyone and give them a more space-age style look to them.

I've been thinking a lot lately about how Kabru deprives himself.

Kabru as a character is intertwined with the idea that sometimes we have to sacrifice the needs of the few for the good of the many. He ultimately subverts this first by sabotaging the Canaries and then by letting Laios go, but in practice he's already been living a life of self-sacrifice.

Saving people, and learning the secrets of the dungeons to seal them, are what's important. Not his own comforts. Not his own desires. He forces them down until he doesn't know they're there, until one of them has to come spilling out during the confession in chapter 76.

Specifically, I think it's very significant, in a story about food and all that it entails, that Kabru is rarely shown eating. He's the deuteragonist of Dungeon Meshi, the cooking manga, but while meals are the anchoring points of Laios's journey, given loving focus, for Kabru, they're ... not.

I'm sure he eats during dungeon expeditions, in the routine way that adventurers must when they sit down to camp. But on the surface, you get the idea that Kabru spends most of his time doing his self-assigned dungeon-related tasks: meeting with people, studying them, putting together that evidence board, researching the dungeon, god knows what else. Feeding himself is secondary.

He's introduced during a meal, eating at a restaurant, just to set up the contrast between his party and Laios's. And it's the last normal meal we see him eating until the communal ending feast (if you consider Falin's dragon parts normal).

First, we get this:

Kabru's response here is such a non-answer, it strongly implies to me that he wasn't thinking about it until Rin brought it up. That he might not even be feeling the hunger signals that he logically knew he should.

They sit down to eat, but Kabru is never drawn reaching for food or eating it like the rest of his party. He only drinks.

It's possible this means nothing, that we can just assume he's putting food in his mouth off-panel, but again, this entire manga is about food. Cooking it, eating it, appreciating it, taking pleasure in it, grounding yourself in the necessary routine of it and affirming your right to live by consuming it. It's given such a huge focus.

We don't see him eat again until the harpy egg.

What a significant question for the protagonist to ask his foil in this story about eating! Aren't you hungry? Aren't you, Kabru?

He was revived only minutes ago after a violent encounter. And then he chokes down food that causes him further harm by triggering him, all because he's so determined to stay in Laios's good graces.

In his flashback, we see Milsiril trying to spoon-feed young Kabru cake that we know he doesn't like. He doesn't want to eat: he wants to be training.

Then with Mithrun, we see him eating the least-monstery monster food he can get his hands on, for the sake of survival- walking mushroom, barometz, an egg. The barometz is his first chance to make something like an a real meal, and he actually seems excited about it because he wants to replicate a lamb dish his mother used to make him!

...but he doesn't get to enjoy it like he wanted to.

Then, when all the Canaries are eating field rations ... Kabru still isn't shown eating. He's only shown giving food to Mithrun.

And of course the next time he eats is the bavarois, which for his sake is at least plant based ... but he still has to use a coping mechanism to get through it.

I don't think Kabru does this all on purpose. I think Kui does this all on purpose. Kabru's Post Traumatic Stress Disorder should be understood as informing his character just as much as Laios's autism informs his. It's another way that Kabru and Laios act as foils: where Laios takes pleasure in meals and approaches food with the excitement of discovery, Kabru's experiences with eating are tainted by his trauma. Laios indulges; Kabru denies himself. Laios is shown enjoying food, Kabru is shown struggling with it.

And I can very easily imagine a reason why Kabru might have a subconscious aversion towards eating.

Meals are the privilege of the living.

now that youve spelled it all out, its really hitting me how much he grows during his time with mithrun--he still doesnt enjoy what hes eating, but he is doing it. he's making food for himself and is forced to caretake for someone else and in that process must be aware of his own bodys needs to guess at mithruns. mithruns condition is very much an exaggerated state of kabrus own ptsd: kabru ignores his body until he must attend to it, where mithrun cannot feel it at all.

his journey to get reacquainted with his needs is still in its infancy when the story ends, but it is a journey he starts, and starts it by having no choice but recognize he needs to survive and that takes food, no matter what kind.

1. Believix is kinda in limbo atm. It does feature in the reworked s4 as a failsafe form, but I'm unsure.

The Wizards do come back in Roxy's third season, and Believix is what can help you fight them. However, s3 is also the Enchantix/High Witch season. Adding Believix would bloat it and make these forms feel a lot less special imo.

So idk

2. No Duman will stay dead. I feel that his death really defines who he was, and who Ogron is. Willing to sacrifice anyone for his goals.

He does get replaced by a new member, but he doesnt get life rights
