Me when I see someone wish painful death and total eradication of all Mormons: Well golly, they seem awful upset. I'd better pray that they find peace in their hearts.
Me when my phone auto corrects "Deseret" to "dessert" or "desert": What is this hate crime? Why hast thou thrown in with the Prince of Darkness and all his odious ilk? When will my people be free?
running into queer-religious discourse when you've already settled it for yourself is kind of exhausting because no one ever says anything new and everyone talks with this frantically anxious energy that makes me sad

Oooooooh how I love Rose Datoc Dall
Been reading 1 Nephi lately and the whole Laban shenanigan made me make this
@thebloggerbloggerfun and I have been working on creating a Book of Mormon tarot set for a while now, and we’ve put so much thought into it. I’ve been debating sharing because we genuinely want to get this deck published and I don’t want someone stealing it from under us, but! We’ve finished assigning the Major Arcana and the four Courts aaaaaand
We are now looking for an illustrator! (Since my hasty photoshops are amusing to me but non-cohesive and also copyrighted.) Are you interested? Do you know someone who might be? Shoot me a message!
[Image ID: Major Arcana cards from the Ryder Waite tarot deck photoshopped so the art is Book of Mormon characters, mostly from famous Mormon paintings and the Children’s Illustrated Book of Mormon Stories.
First row: The Fool. Zeezrom hands the plates to Nephi who is out of frame. The Magician. The Brother of Jared kneels, shielding his eyes from the light of glowing rocks. The High Priestess. Abish gestures with wide-flung arms.
Second row: The Empress. Sariah rests her head on her hands, looking peaceful with her eyes closed. The Emperor. Lehi preaches in Jerusalem. The Hierophant. King Benjamin delivers his sermon from the top of a tower.
Third row: The Lovers. King Lamoni touches his wife’s cheek tenderly as she raises him from his sleep. The Chariot. A Jaredite boat is tossed by the waves. Justice. Captain Moroni raises the Title of Liberty on a staff.
Fourth row: The Hermit: Moroni kneels and prays over the golden plates before burying them. Wheel of Fortune. The Liahona is lifted in two hands. Strength. Ammon defends his flock from robbers out of frame.
Fifth row: The Hanged Man. Abinadi is burned at the stake. Death. Zeezrom lies on his death bed. Temperance. Lamoni’s father sits on his throne, talking to Aaron out of frame.
Sixth row: The Devil. Korihor preaches to his followers. The Tower. A Zoramite stands praying with outstretched arms atop a rameumptom. The Star. Nephi stretches out his hand to subdue his rebellious brothers.
Seventh row: The Moon. Amulek steps out from his destroyed prison. The Sun. Alma the Younger lies on the ground confronted by an angel out of frame. Judgement. Pahoran writes to Captain Moroni.
Final row: The World. Lehi’s vision of the iron rod leading to the Tree of Life. /End ID.]
making up for how I'll never drink liquor by downing my sacrament water like a shot
Me, slamming down an empty sacrament cup: Another one!
The deacon at the sacrament table: Sir, I think you’ve had enough.
Me: I’LL TELL YOU WHEN I’VE HAD ENOUGH!
The deacon: ok, that’s it, I’m cutting you off.
Throwing an absolute rager, Mormon style, so I make Jell-O shots with sacrament water.
singing along to glowing by the oh hellos but shaking my head while i do it so everyone knows i don't agree that the inkwells of prophecy and cartography dried up long ago
They were right things really do be coming to pass.
Hey, don't cry. A single thread in a tapestry, though its color brightly shines, can never see its purpose in the pattern of the grand design, ok?
Never underestimate my ability to look for the Christian themes in any story, book, movie, show, anything.
It's very obviously not a Christian story? Too bad. I'll find the themes anyway.
I am unstoppable. Try me.
A story with any truth in it is Christian by its nature because Christ is the way, the truth, and the life
moment of appreciation for all religious LGBTQ+ people right now; Jewish, Christian, Hindu, Muslim, or anything else. It’s okay if you’re still figuring out what your identity means to you, or how it intersects with your religious beliefs. You are valid and loved <333
Seeing as we now have a French apostle, there are so many jokes we could make about "A Frenchman, a Brit, and a German walk into the conference center..." But I can't think of any good ones. This is the best I could come up with on short notice.
"Now let me start by telling a story about airplanes..."
Hey where's the post that went along the lines "something about lds people sending their children to the military, and the fact that when Utah joined the US, they did it with the knowledge that the deal was, 'join the US or die like your martyrs before you." "
Reading the Official Declaration 1 and the exerpts explaining it and thought of this.
Here it is
"If You Could Hie to Kolob" is fascinatingly aware of the physical universe in a way that's really unique for Christianity. Like everyone else is reluctantly admitting Earth orbits around the sun, and Mormons are over there going "SPACE AND MATTER ARE BASICALLY INFINITE AND GOD DID THAT! HOW COOL IS THIS??"
Also it gets weirdly Buddhist / Hindu, about the endless cycle of existence and how we can therefore draw simple joy from eternity, not inherently fear it as mortal beings in a vast and ancient universe.
Pretty impressive for a song written by an American white guy in 1842.
Also W. W. Phelps was excommunicated and rejoined the LDS Church THREE TIMES.
Say what you will about these people, they seem to take that forgiveness thing seriously.
I just think it’s so funny when people say “oh mormonism is a cult!” because if you think about it for more than five minutes it makes zero sense
like the church has been around for almost two centuries now. we’re on our eighteenth leader. most cults fall apart after the first leader dies. we have members in almost every single country in the world. almost eighteen million of them now. you cannot reliably extend the control that a proper cult would require over that amount of people and that distance.
all of the “controlling behavior” things that people point to are things that you don’t have to do if you don’t want to. the only effective punishments they have are not letting you have a temple recommend and excommunication.
“but how do you escape this dreadful cult?” you stop going to church. that’s it. you just don’t show up.
and a lot of the controlling things people talk about highkey just.. aren't. "if you're Mormon you can't have tea or coffee!" if you're muslim you can't have pork what's your point
