the dsmp is worse than homestuck because its less thoroughly archived. right now i have basically the entirety of homestuck and related medias accessible to me at any time. i could get into homestuck in 2025 and probably enjoy it a decent amount with the knowledge of its original cultural context. the dsmp is like lost fucking media compared to homestuck. can you imagine someone right now in 2025 hearing about the dsmp and finally deciding to get into it. the source material is fucking gone. one of the creators is dead (fly high technoblade) and many other significant contributors either actively try to avoid being brought back to That Time or are such assholes that it tarnishes the name. wtf how do you even explain that to someone. i could get a buddy into homestuck easy. i could not do so with the dsmp.s save me

honestly at this point it is time to spin White Ass (starting) Vampires into its own separate post, so: if we take the starting vampires as some sort of allegory/cipher for real-world groups and power dynamics then let's swing for the fences, they're allegorically white. because we genuinely think there's something really compelling about the fact that vampires are theoretically/provably capable of coexisting with humans WITHOUT doing harm, but our starting vamps have instead chosen to TEXTUALLY enact violence upon people who cannot defend themselves without then being villainized in response.

they have access to structural privilege in the ways they weaponize the townsfolk against each other whenever there's a threat to their status quo. they essentially function as having a monopoly on justified violence by gaslighting and/or coercing others (under threat of that same violence) into submission. they are callous and see humans as a "lesser" species -- scott longs for a return to the time when he was able to rule the area and people feared his capacity for violence, owen literally remarks that some people simply have to die and that he's offering legs the ability to choose who. they single out and ostracize people who raise concerns against their actions or prior treatment by vampires by picking apart their wording and taking it in the worst faith possible, blowing complaints out of proportion and conveniently dismissing all criticism of their own actions. they hide all of this under the guise of being well-spoken, level-headed, the "reasonable" ones.

maybe they would listen if you weren't just so rude and so violent. think about their feelings. haven't you noticed you're literally talking like the bad guys? if you treated any other demographic this way it'd be blatant discrimination! maybe they were planning on reaching out and working together but it's your fault that fell apart because you just had to insist they change! you're literally just as bad for acting out like this, YOU'RE the real problem, they're just pointing out what everyone already knows! they just want to live, it's not their fault they absolutely definitely totally need to hunt people down and permanently + violently alter the course of their lives for the worse without their consent, that's just their traditional way of life! humans are all scum, they've proven it by being violent towards them for absolutely no reason, and that means killing them in mass numbers is completely justifiable.

and if you complain, or gods forbid defend yourself, you're the real monster. or you're just insane. or both.

Watched a 3 hour plot summary of the Dream SMP just to see what all those teenagers in 2020 were on about and I've come away from it with the conclusion that, corollary to my joke that The Locked Tomb is "Homestuck if it was good", the Dream SMP is Homestuck if it was bad
