of all the faces she had seen in the crowds, nothing could prepare her for the pure fear that came with the sight of ted tonks, “what are you doing here?” nearly tackling him as she gripped his shoulders, steadying herself, “i thought you were home” the familiar warmth that often came with pairing him with the burrow was obliterated by the panic that was racing through her.
“are you okay?” gaze searching his as she searched for any bruises or cuts.
it’s no surprise to see molly at the game but it was more so the fact that she was alone . the creased frowns on her face was already enough evidence that arthur had been lost somewhere in the crowds - ❝ no , i decided to not go to work today . i got some tickets from a friend ... ❞ that very friend who was no longer here with him . slipped away just at the right time .
❝ i’m seriously fine , molly - ❞ a pretty truthful answer considering the look that is set on his best friend’s face as she searched for any evidence of the opposite . ❝ a few minor burns maybe , but the mediwix helped . could have been a whole lost worse . but you - nothing’s happened to you , right ? ❞ ted’s life was just one to worry for but for molly -- there were two fates entangled there .

“what can you tell me from what you saw?” evan had asked the young wix, there were a lot of things happening behind the scenes, but had genuinely cared about their opinion of what they had seen, “do you need me to help you with that wound?” he eventually asked, seeing that they hadn’t gotten the wound looked at.
❝ my friends were next to me one moment and then the next - ❞ then came the boom and that vibration alone still rang in ted’s ears even minutes later . it strangely sounded so similar to the confringo sent his way some time ago .... ❝ the bludgers , are they always supposed to do that ? ❞ a finger pointed towards the ball that looked hexed as it chased after another set of ministry workers .

she had consumed so much smoke you would have thought they were smoking a chimney worth—but she had worried where on earth were her sisters, they were trying to find their sisters but weren’t doing very well in that area through a crowd of people. everything had been locked down now and it was impossible trying to find a way out that they had relocated to back on the pitch. “are you alright?”
❝ i’m fine , you know , considering . ❞ a poor attempt to even take a jab at the situation they’d been forced in but how else was there to cope ? strange situations like this were occurring at a common rate now . it was nice , though , to run into a friendly face . ❝ how about you ? who did you come with , anyways ? ❞

any sudden call was bad news , but the urgency of this one had left dorcas on edge — the tightness in her throat a vice grip as she reached to the quidditch match and set to work . she’d been trained for this , she knew what she was doing : yes , she felt the panic rustle inside her uncomfortably but there was no room for it now . later , when the dust settled and she was alone , but not now . it was not the wisest decision — running through the thick smoke in search of those concealed by the black wall — and the dry , burning cough was far from pleasant , but it was worth it as she nearly bumped into someone . " hey , hey — apparating won’t work , but we need to get you somewhere safe . i’m dorcas , field mediwix . "
the veil of chemical exhaust is thick in the air as the fire consumed the wooden frame and as he circles the same spot once more , ted begins to feel defeated . there was no immediate sign of anyone familiar - crowds of wixen now far and between as they rushed to other parts of the pitch in search for any exit . should have brought his wand - but when would have a quidditch game ever be the spot for something like this to happen ? ted is now crouched , knees bent and in desperate need for some fresh air . ❝ i -- ❞ it’s all ted can manage at first in between hacks , until he finally relents and extends a hand for dorcas to take . ❝ my friends , i’ve lost them . ❞

Merlin, this was fun. Reg had seen some of the damage from those accursed bludgers up close, seen the explosion and all, and finally pushed his way into one of the more blown-up parts of the stands to see if anyone would let him do anything exciting.
“Are you alright? I’m a healer– trainee healer, but I dunno if we’ve got better right now.”
ted wasn’t entirely sure what betwitched him to come back to the stands where he had just seen another bludger tear through its structure . maybe it was the hysteria finally burning out the last bit of common sense or maybe it was because everything in him needed to find his friends . ❝ i’m fine - ❞ he says with a passing glance , the back of his hand brushing the sweat dewing on his forehead with agitation . until , that is , a lumpsome of smoke causes him to cough and by merlin’s last wit , that only made ted angrier . ❝ ‘tis just a bit of smoke anyways . hardly a thing to be worried about anyways . ❞

❝ least of all when we could waste it all the better , i’ve always hated drinking alone . i think i do have something : that’s me now out . i’ve got the last of my stuff away from home , i’m staying with mina properly now ❞
❝ i think we can both agree that we prefer each other’s company than most alternatives anyway . but is that why mina has been coming to work a bit more cheerful these days ? but shit , alice . i’m happy for you , seriously . at least one of us aren’t stuck at home anymore . ❞

“So, on a scale of one to ‘very’, how dangerous do you reckon these muggle contraptions actually are?” Ned asks, slapping the motorcycle magazine he’s been perusing down on the table.
❝ the secret’s balance . once you’ve got that handled , motorcycles are pretty sane . ❞ now ted moves to point towards a particular picture on the magazine . ❝ i think once i have some money saved up , i’d like something like this one . the horror my mum might have ... but really there’s a thing we wear call helmets that help . the only real danger is every other person driving on the street which is hardly my fault . ❞
shacklebolt , k .
“i would stay clear of the one on the right - olive binding, i’m pretty sure i saw it try to bite the wailing first year over there” flourish and blotts was as busy as it could be a week before the school year and for once, Kingsley had been late. always eager to get the prep done at the beginning of August - away from the crowds and bustle, it had simply slipped his mind.
for the first time in who knows how long , ted wasn’t having to scurry to find supplies for another year of school . it was refreshing - even a bit nostalgic to be joining kingsley as a mere onlooker . ❝ i hardly touched the books , i’ll be home . partly to do with the probability of being bit but the other for how heavy they were in my knapsack . ❞

“I mean, just because you fucked doesn’t mean it’s not a bromance. That’s just taking care of your bro.”
❝ i think i see what you are putting down , mate . don’t all the romantics write poems about falling in love with their best friend ? is that not what a bromance essentially is ? ❞
scott , m .
“this game doesn’t have a winner, so long as we both have at least one shot,” she answered, and her grin only grew. there were people in the world, right then, who didn’t know how fun it could be to work in a pub. “mmmm.. okay, we’ll say two weeks, because you’re a real catch, sir, and I don’t know … you’re pretty popular. there’s a chance that neither of us can count that high.” still, the grin continued to grow, even as she raised her glass to ted, swallowing the whisky like water and tapping her glass on the counter twice before setting it down. “if there was a winner, though it’d definitely be me. unless you’ve also been kissing ludo bagman.”
❝ i think i’ve got to start washing the dirty dishes around here , mina . you’re starting to go mad - ❞ a tease as he swirls the liquid in the small glass as ted listens to his friend . ❝ i can be quite unpopular with some , but alas , my charm can be quite appealing . ❞ charm might have been the wrong word to describe why a particular pureblood kept coming around , but it was suitable for such a public conversation like this . but he takes that swig of the liqour with vigor , the sides of his face creasing with the burn but it’s what mina says that has him trying to hold in a cough . ❝ shit , i might kiss that fella myself . he took long enough to finally play his cards , don’t you think ? ❞
malfoy , l .
❝ i think i’d have a much better guess if you told me her name or just a little bit more about this mystery woman . you’ve really not given me much to work on here , her being a bitch doesn’t narrow it down ❞
❝ you watch it , lucy . i never said she was a bitch and would never dare say such a thing . she’s a bit selective , you see . she’s one to call folk like me pond scum but that didn’t stop her from coming back . ❞
scott , m .
“let’s play a game!” mina said, loudly, by way of greeting as she bounced through the kitchen door and up to the bar, bumping ted with her hip when she got there. she grabbed two shot glasses, filled them with whiskey, and pushed one in front of her favorite coworker. “it’s called… take a shot if you were kissing someone cute this week, and you really wanna tell somebody about it.”
ted had just placed the last glass cup back on the shelf when the door to the kitchen bursts open and his rather energetic co-worker decides to grace him with her company . a grin is already placed on his lips , catching the glass as it slides against the surface with a rather curious expression . ❝ i’ve played rather strange drinking games before , but never something like this . don’t you think the winner’s already obvious ? ❞ a jab at his friend , unless he’s missed something himself . ❝ so we’re only counting this week , then ? ❞

“i definitely think quidditch would be more fun in ravenclaw or hufflepuff. this age old rivalry between my house and slytherin is a burden, truly.” she sighed, she just wanted to have some fun, winning wasn’t everything after all. “it is more fun to cheer than to play sometimes, but i just love flying too much to sit in the stands.” another shrug, quidditch wasn’t life for her but it was such a huge part of her anyway. “me, captain?” she guffawed and clasped a hand over her mouth. “i mean, what makes me look qualified to be captain?”
❝ i reckon that it took me a couple of years to follow a quidditch game without difficulty . it certainly helped that i was forced to listen to rugby games on the radio growing up - ❞ a curse of not growing up in the wixen world and having two parents who were as clueless as he had been since the first day . ❝ madaam hooch’s lesson in the first year was hardly enough for me to justify buying a broom . ❞ but his brows do furrow at her sudden puzzlement at his statement . ❝ you mean you’ve never thought yourself to be captain , then ? you’ve got the spirit , i think . ❞ or at least he never saw james to be the most level headed to hold the title . ❝ you’re nice , can fly , and definitely know how to play the game . ❞
macdonald , m .
❝ mebbe that’s why am alive ted , have ye thought about that ? there’s got to be some reason to it aw , a cannae think the big guy’s just got a hard on for giein’ me grief ❞ they can’t help but think of their parents as they speak . of their mother ; in the pews every sunday , and how mary had joined her once or twice these past two summers , searching for meaning in all this . and of their father ; the brave soldier in his youth , who’d fought for what was right , he’d raised his wee lassie just the same . was that mary’s purpose ? was she meant to find meaning in the fight ? ❝ a can make them care but , righteous anger like . has history no shown us it can work ? cause this isnae a cause bigger than us , its about us ! to them its about whether we deserve to even exist , a’ll dae ma bit ❞ do their bit till the end . that has to be why they’re still around . ❝ a don’t think ye can ever cope wi anger like this , think if ye try it’ll eat ye up inside till yer nothin left . think it’ll dae their job for them ❞
❝ you really think that way , mary ? ❞ it’s not that ted hadn’t expected a rebuttal , because he had . instead , he’s now struggling to wrap his mind around such a sour thought . ted had all but accepted his fate , so why couldn’t mary ? and all he could do was sit back and watch ; a tragedy that was waiting to be told to future generations . ❝ you’re one person and there’s hundreds of them . you’ve imagined this all to be personal to you , that they’ve all got some vendetta against you , but that shadow in the sky made a mistake giving us that magic , don’t you think ? ❞ some kind of conversation to have at a party that’s meant to distract them - almost felt like it was meant to foreshadow something morbid to happen . ❝ you fight , then . you find the hungriest wolf and take their bite , see if you bleed enough to give them some sense . ion see the point , though . i’d rather live many years risking feeling that emptiness than die in a way that’s preventable . those purebloods that claim the conflict senseless , i don’t see them running to our aide . they’ve got less to lose than us , don’t you think ? ❞
black , a .
❝ i never asked for the drink to be sent my way , and i didn’t ask for the company either … but i suppose history could always repeat itself ❞ it was a night she wanted to ignore , lest it be repeated but the more she thought on the former the more a wish for the latter became stronger . what she knew , and she was coming to believe he didn’t , about their potions exam only strengthening that . ❝ i’m not quite sure , which would you rather i be ? i suppose i’ll only find out when i lay my head down up there , won’t i ? ❞ a twinkle in her eye as she notices the hint of red colouring his cheeks slightly now , a little better at keeping the crimson from her own face .
it’s with eyes that are almost hungry , near ravenous , that she sits there watching him . gaze on his lips as he spoke before flickering back up to his eyes . ❝ you never did learn to just keep your head down , always had something to say ❞ it had driven her mad their entire time in NEWT potions together but now she’d almost admit that she missed the push and pull . ❝ so you’re dangerous now are you , ted ? tell me : what will you do to me now you’ve got me in your clutches ? are you going to make me scream ? ❞ it was half a purr , leaning closer in as she spoke but still keeping her hands to herself . maybe coming here to just see how he’d react to seeing her again was failing badly , but she still wanted to see if he’d make that move . biting her lip as she watched him , waiting . ❝ and how much longer are you going to delay ? ❞
❝ perhaps not , but you’ve got to admit that there would be zero history if it hadn’t been for that dirty martini . ❞ it had been an impulsive draw to approach her that night , especially with what water was hidden under their bridge . all he knew now was that this was just another thing that could make that water more murky , lest it burst and take them over again . ❝ no matter what i want you to be , ‘dromeda . but it might be forward of me to say that mayhaps the drink was not the only dirty thing that evening . ❞ so much confidence for someone that had also fallen . ❝ it was you , wasn’t it ? saying that you wanted to take it slow ? the ice in my drink had barely melted - ❞
it had also been him that pushed for her to move quicker and that still stood true . he’d convinced himself to move on , and for the most part , he had . but the chastise only feels like a reward , ❝ maybe that lesson you gave me just didn’t stick . ❞ a line that he hadn’t thought of crossing again , but looking back at her , ted isn’t entirely convinced andromeda would do the same . by choosing to sleep with him , she had also gone against some of her own words . no threat against him would bear the same weight anymore . ❝ so you have come for more . you were hardly kept prisoner last time and it’s the same now . just admit it .. ❞ ted also leans in now , setting both hands on the table for balance . ❝ if i had gotten you in my clutches , then what does that say about you returning ? i haven’t gotten to delay anything when the only person stopping this is you . ❞
macdonald , m .
❝ an’ am gonna do more than just talk , teddy bear , they need to get taught a lesson . they need their comeuppance . an’ no one seems want to gie them it , or the ones that do have their hands tied by shite like evidence and unreliable witnesses . an’ a’ve got neither a them stoppin’ me . just … they’re gonn regret it , one day . regret hurtin’ you . hurtin’ me . i’ll make them hurt , just you watch ❞ they got what ted meant about not wanting to worry anyone , god did she get it . no one ever reacted the way you wanted , the way you needed them too . too much empty sympathy , eyes that wouldn’t meet yours and the thought that maybe you’d done something to deserve it being so close to their tongues . ❝ maybe if a talk about it at one it won’t happen again ? or now its said we can drink and forget at least ? try to in any case ❞
❝ so that’s all you’re living for , then ? wanting some revenge ? ❞ where ted had rather avoided thinking about it all together , mary was some solider planning for the next . ❝ you’ll do all that , mary ? it’s useless - ❞ it feels like a waste of breath to even argue opposite of what the other was saying , the fight is very much tainting any sense . he cannot even blame her . ❝ you fighting will prove them nothing . you’ll be cut and bleed because they don’t care , just like you said . why be some martyr to some cause that’s a whole lot bigger than you and me ? ❞ this party was for the rest who had gotten the privilege of feeling secure in their future . something that ted wasn’t so sure about anymore . ❝ forgetting sounds nice , but not realistic , i think . you’ve just got to learn how to cope . ❞
