Her heart nearly exploded, it was beating so hard against her chest as he held her, her face buried in his chest. He still smelled exactly as she remembered, musky with a hint of something spicy yet sweet. Merlin, how she had missed his scent. She could have stayed wrapped up in his arms forever, nestled in the crook of his neck, their hearts beating in time. Of course she knew it had to end sometime, but whenever that was it would be too soon. When he finally did release her, she didn’t even bother wiping her eyes even though she knew she was on the verge of crying. She could even feel the first tear break free as his lips met with her cheek.
What had she done to deserve this? To be welcomed back into open arms? Lithe fingers brushed against her cheekbones, finally clearing the tears threatening to fall. “You did,” she said, her cheeks reddening at the compliment as she wrapped her free arm around his elbow, her head finding a home against him. “I missed you,” she mumbled as they reached the door, probably the only chance she would get to tell him in private due to their extremely nosey family. But what that “I missed you,” really meant was, “I love you.” She always had, and always would. No matter what happened between them, whether they ever got back to what they had been or not, Teddy would always have her heart.
Blue hues rolled in an exaggerated fashion as the door closed, several of her cousins wearing knowing smirks as the two entered the house. “Home,” the word rolled so smoothly off Victoire’s tongue as she gently squeezed his arm. As long as she was with him, near him, she was home. “It feels so good to be home.” Vic couldn’t help but giggle as Grandma Molly ushered everyone out of the room, muttering something about leaving them to their business. The blonde released her hold on Teddy’s arm once the kitchen was free of lookers on, turning to face him. “Come on, Lupin. Catch me up on everything.”
Teddy felt his cheeks flush and he had to look away for a moment. If he was being honest with himself, he had always loved Victoire. She was always the girl to steal his heart and she never failed to tickle a smile onto his lips. He looked back at her then, resisting the urge to kiss her in front of everyone. “I missed you, too, Weasley.” He squeezed her hand before dropping in as the cousins washed over her.
Once everyone had left, Teddy brewed them tea and sat down at the table, reaching over and placing his hand on hers. “Well. I’ve been pretty flat out with rehearsals and shows, so I haven’t seen much of the fam. But from what I know Albus is killing it at Quidditch, he and I have been pretty close over the last couple months.” He smiled softly, lifting his drink to his lips. “And you, what’ve you been up to?”
