Two parents in Washington state have been found guilty of murder after following the abusive parenting techniques advocated in the parenting book “To Train Up a Child”
MAJOR TRIGGER WARNING
Some of the discipline techniques the Pearls teach include:
Using plastic tubing to beat children, since it hurts a lot but leaves fewer marks to alert authorities
Wearing the plastic tubing around the parent’s neck as a constant reminder to obey
“Swatting” babies as young as six months old with instruments such as “a 12-inch willowy branch,” thinner plastic tubing or a wooden spoon
“Blanket training” babies by hitting them with an instrument if they try to crawl off a blanket on the floor
Beating older children with rulers, paddles, belts and larger tree branches
“Training” children with pain before they even disobey, in order to teach total obedience
Giving cold water baths, putting children outside in cold weather and withholding meals as discipline
Hosing off children who have potty training accidents
Inflicting punishment until a child is “without breath to complain.”
Please sign the petition in the article for Amazon to stop carrying books that advocate for child abuse and torture and signal boost. They need several thousand more signatures.
WHAT THE FUCK.
The author of the book should be burned to death
I’ll get the gasoline
My parents had this book. They used glue gun sticks instead of tubing or branches. The first time I saw glue stick in an art class (at about 6 years old), I got scared, because I didn’t know they had any use other than punishment.
Please, please, please sign the petition and add a comment on WHY this book should be treated as an exception! This isn’t about censorship, this is about removing a product from the market that has directly caused the deaths of nearly half a dozen children already.
If this book is sold online anywhere, leave negative reviews with links to articles reporting the deaths of these kids. Gonna do that now myself
It has two and a half star reviews on Amazon, with a few five star reviews claiming it’s nothing like the abuse described. Be sure to take snippets from the book and share it with your review so that people are not mislead.

reminder that it’s ok to offer prayers if it’s all that you have, it’s ok if you genuinely want to help. calling on your gods and holy figures to help those in need shows that you care. i’m praying for the attacks in Sri Lanka, and i genuinely hope for everyone affected by it to be ok. offer prayers. some will say they fall ok deaf ears, but it can mean the world to others

Bats take care of us. They’re a big part of the reason why we can enjoy bananas, avocados, and tequila, because their poop spreads seeds that help to pollinate at least 300 fruits. They also take care of each other, because vampire bats will regurgitate blood for their bat neighbors who don’t have any food. Source

Senior photo shoot of my little sister! Could not be more proud of you than I am today, and yet tomorrow I already know somehow I will be. Love this nerd!
This scene cracks me up. Not just for the dialogue, but for the mini-heart attack Stitch seems to have when Lilo yells out.
I love Stitch so goddamn much. He can lift things 300 times his own weight, but one seven year old girl yells out and he grabs his chest in fear
Let us not forget this real ass response, to her stupid ass epiphany.
I love how he holds his hands and looks at like “honey,no.”

Pro-choicers and Planned Parenthood workers are not villains - abortion and any ideology that reduces people to inhuman is the evil, and everyone else is just trying their best. God bless who wrote that review.

everything this woman makes is goddamn fantastic
So I went to her YouTube channel cuz I was like “yo I want some more funny robot videos.
Turns out:
Her latest update on twitter just came out less than a day ago:
Hopefully, her recovery goes well.
On a lighter note, when she discussed the possibility of going blind in one eye as a result of the surgery she got a comment:
If your partner feels threatened when you want alone time: RUN.
thats creepy
This applies to you boys too- if your girlfriend won’t let you hang out with your friends, RUN
No matter what gender you or your partner are, if they refuse to let you spend any time with your friends that’s a big sign of danger.
Awareness brings assistance
There's billions of causes in this world that need attention, but today I'm trying to bring awareness to the one that cut our friendship shorter than it was supposed to be
Thunderbird Strike is the latest from Indigenous developer Elizabeth LaPensée.
In Thunderbird Strike, a new side-scrolling game that launches at the ImagineNATIVEfestival this week in Toronto, players can control a thunderbird—a symbol in several Indigenous cultures—that destroys as much of the oil industry’s machinery and pipelines as it possibly can. And it’s so satisfying.
The game was created by Elizabeth LaPensée, an Anishinaabe, Métis, and Irish games developer, and assistant professor of media and information at Michigan State University. She told me in an interview that she wanted to create a game where Indigenous players could reclaim some agency around oil pipelines, even if through a video game.
“Especially when we’re talking in the context of pipelines, and the oil industry, there are some wins we can have. But ultimately protectors will be pushed out and the processes are going to move forward. It’s happening with mining and it’s happening with pipelines,” LaPensée told me over the phone.
The creator of this game is getting attacked and defamed by oil lobbyists and racists
(and let’s be honest, the venn diagram circle of “oil lobbyists” is just a small circle in the larger circle of “racists”) and could really use support and advocacy:
tweets via @nativeapprops on twitter. Here’s the link to that “Framing Indigenous resistance as terrorism” piece, and here’s the game’s creator’s twitter.
And here’s the game website:

You can download it for Windows now here (it’s free), iOS and Android versions coming due out in December.

this one’s for all the fat girls who’ve cried in dressing rooms 💗
when i was about thirteen or so, my mother took me to sears to buy me pants. i went into the youth section and picked out jeans and dickies.
the act of trying to fit my fat, squishy body into something that would not go past my knees was embarrassing. but it’s doubled when i realized i was wearing the biggest size in that section, what was supposed to be my section. the look my mother gave me when i told her that nothing fit is seared into my memory.
so i cried. i cried because this meant i had to shop at the womens section. for some completely asinine reason, in my teens, i decided that if i ever shopped in the fat lady’s section, it meant that i had failed. at what? i still don’t really know. passing by the abundance of ugly, drab, boring clothes that the plus size section provided felt like i was in a funhouse, like this can’t be my reality.
but the pants fit there. i took no pleasure from this, and i cried again.
so that’s why i made this post. because the experiences that fat and chubby kids go through in dressing rooms is unique and so rarely talked about. i’m in a much better place now and have definitely embraced my fat thighs and hanging double belly, but i know a lot of us who grew up to be fat adults still have some pain we have to address and work through.
so again, this is for all the fat kids who have cried in dressing rooms. however your particular story went, i hope you can look back on it and start to heal.
I am around 215 lbs and I have not once cried over my weight. So a pare if pants don’t fit, so what? Its just clothes. It means nothing in the grand scheme of things and if I break down and sob over something as meaningless as fabric am I really a strong person? If it takes something so minor and so insignificant to drag me to tears then what does that mean for the rest of my goals? I will not let myself be swayed by one of the original sins of man and I won’t be swayed by the stupidity that rules the world. All I have to ask of you guys is one question, will you cower on the ground like a dog without its master or will you fly the sky like a bird in a greaves storm?
